Make The App Load And Compile Local Dll?

Oct 7, 2010

is there any way to make the app load and compile local dll?

an exemple:

All process over visual studio 2010

i made an app on win7 that uses shell32.dll but the way that win7 compile his own interlog.shell32.dll it makes the app don't work in XP. But if after i finish the app on win7 send the code to a xp machine and set the shell32.dll on XP the app will work fine.

so... if there was a way to make the app, at his first load, do search from needed dll to compile them for his needs, it will was fantastic.

Force A Compile-time Warning / When Using An Unassigned Local Variable?

Nov 15, 2010

Today I discovered that something I had assumed about VB.NET for many years was not true (worrying!). I assumed that a variable declared within a loop had a lifetime of the iteration it was declared in, but in fact it seems it has a lifetime of the whole procedure.[code]I had assumed an output of False, True, False, True but instead it is actually False, True, True, True..In C# the equivalent code would not compile as you would get a compile time error of Error "Use of unassigned local variable 'var1'".I realise there are many ways to fix this and that best practice would be to declare the variable outside of the loop and reset it at the beginning of every loop through.I find this behaviour so counter-intuitive to me that I would like at least a compile time warning in VB.NET when/if I do this. (I could also then set this on any projects I already have and get warning that would allow me to check that my assumptions aren't causing errors).Does anyone know how/if I can get this to generate a compile time warning in VB.NET? Am I the only one that finds this counter-intuitive?

Compile As X64 - Attempt To Load Assembly With Incorrect Format

Jul 16, 2010

I have a strange problem in my VB.NET project when I want to compile it as x64. If I set the target CPU to Any CPU, it will be fine and on x64 systems it will run as x64. But if I set the target CPU to only x64, my project will show up some error/warnings and won't compile at all, here are them:

Error 1 : An attempt was made to load an assembly with an incorrect format
Warning 2 : Possible problem detected while building assembly 'x': Referenced assembly 'mscorlib.dll' targets a different processor
Warning 3 : Possible problem detected while building assembly 'x': Referenced assembly 'System.Data.dll' targets a different processor
Warning 4 : Possible problem detected while building assembly 'x': Referenced assembly 'System.EnterpriseServices.dll' targets a different processor

This is very strange, those are system assemblies and my project is .NET Framework 2.0. How they can run when my application is set to any CPU but not at x64 only?!

Variable Declared Inside A For Loop - Make This To A Compile Time Error?

Mar 27, 2012

Today I investigated a logical bug in our software and figured out that this is related to the way VB.NET thread variables inside a loop.Let's say I have the following code:

Dim numbers As New List(Of Integer) From {1, 2, 3, 4, 5}
For Each number As Integer In numbers
Dim isEven As Boolean

[code]....

The problem is that isEven is declared but not assigned. In this specific case, it would be correct to write dim isEven as Boolean = false but I haven't done this.In VB.NET, a variable that is declared inside a for loop keeps its value for the next itaration. This is by design: [URL]but this is also dangerous pitfall for programmers.

However, until now, I haven't been aware of this problem/behaviour. Until now. Most of our code base is C# anyway, which doesn't allow the use of an uninitialized variable, so there is no problem. But we have some legacy code that is written in VB.NET that we have to support. So the best thing would be to generate a warning or even an error in this specific case. But even with Option Explicit / Option Strict this does not generate a warning / an error. Is there a way make this a compile time error or maybe a way to check this with FxCop?

Wpf - .NET Make A Copy Of An Embedded File Resource To The Local Drive

Apr 8, 2010

I'm creating a WPF application in VB.NET with the 3.5 Framework. (If you provide an example in C#, that's perfectly fine.)

In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File-->New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory.

The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor)

I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime?

.net - Make A VB-dll And Load It In C++ Application?

Jun 8, 2012

I have a problem I've been struggeling with for a full week now, and I'm not able to solve it by myself. I've been googeling, and searching in all kind of forums.I have found lots of "this might work", tried it, but no, no success. If anyone have any clue,I'v got, from an external source, lots of classes and functions written in VB that I need to be able to use from a C++ application. My first though was: no problem, I turn the VB code into a dll, and load it from my C++-program. This was though harder than I ever could imagine. My C++-program is not written in Visual Studio, but for simplicity I started with trying to load my VB dll (written in Visual Studio 2010) from a Visual Studio C++ application. This is my code so far:

[Code]...

I looked at the link with the tutorial, but there is a small problem: there are no such thing as "ActiveX DLL" to choose among all the project types. And yes, I do have Visual Studio 2010 Professional (a trial version, but still).

VS 2010 :: Make An Application To Save Images [or Download Images] To Local Hard Disk

Aug 12, 2010

I was thinking to make an app to save images [or download images] to local hard disk. But to keep it easy, I want this app to create a small picturebox on form to show the thumbnail of downloaded image. Lets say a 5 pictureboxes has to be added with the thumbnails to show the recent downloads. A user can save the location where he wants to save the files on hard disk. A listbox or a dropdown menu will help in categorizing the images, like image1 in friends section, image2 in family section, image3 in others, etc... When the program restarts all the latest 5 thumbnails has to be loaded in pictureboxes and the directory that was chosen. Finally, a button that shows the downloaded images into original image file size one by one or a slide show. Is it possible to make such program?
