How I make SetUp for program in vb.net with local database(data base which include in visual studio.net 2008) to make it work in other computers which not have the visual studio 2008?
I have a chat server / client system running, but I want users to authenticate with my vBulletin forum database.I don't want the client to do it, because it is possible to fake the 'successful login' and connect with a fake username. I want to send the username and password details to the server, and make the server check it with the local vBulletin MySQL database for the username and password. Is there a way to do this? To my knowledge vBulletin has a username and a password entries in the database which is salted, and the salt varies from user to user.
I am writing a program that is using a access DB for the info to be displayed. However when i started making the program i started by just databinding the listboxes.
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'TODO: This line of code loads data into the 'AcskillsDataSet.Skills' table. You

but now that im looking at the data this is prolly only useful for simple data. Im wanting to seperate the data from queries into multiple boxes. Am i better off just manually having a connection to the database and running queries into arrays to sort the data?? The above method looks like im going to be trying to fight the databound stuff. There are two tables and the way the built in query builder is im starting to think its easier to write my own queries in variables or whatever.
I'm having an issue with the startup of my build app with vb2010.Let me explain what the situation is at the moment.
I have a form and a splashscreen. I use the application events (startup event) to check if there is a network connection, if so the splashscreen will run and it will check if the database is available, if this is the case, it will copy the online database to the local ms access database. If the startup check of the network is false, it the user gets a message that there isn't any network available and the program will try to run normal, then when the user clicks the ok button of that message, it will check if the local database has any records. If so the splashscreen will run and the program starts normal (without copy the database, because there isn't any network available). The issue that I am having is, that when there isn't a network connection and the local database is empty, (I do get the message that the local database is empty), but the program still runs, while it should exit. Here is the code of the application event:
Protected Overrides Function OnInitialize(commandLineArgs As System.Collections.ObjectModel.ReadOnlyCollection(Of String)) As Boolean Me.MinimumSplashScreenDisplayTime = 5000[code]......
I have set paths in my program to look for files in the "c:/Documents and Settings/User/ Local Settings/Application Data/".How do I add the "Documents and Settings/User/Local Settings/Application Data/" folder in the setup program? Everyone tells me to use the Local Settings path for my application data but I can't add this folder in the File System Editor. I have read many different help files concerning special folders but none of them explain how to add the local application data folder.
Is it possible to make a setup and deployment project in VB.net 2008, every site i have looked at on google says to just select it from the project list. It isnt in the project list for me to select. Are these types of projects not available in the express version? How can I make an installer, other than using one of the setup and deployment projects? (I know there is a publish button, but that doesn't make a proper installer and installs to the appdata folder which is not what i want it to do)
How would i go about seting up a local database to store data so it can be used offline then to sync up with SQL server 2008 r2. i've got to the point of having a test project with a local DB that stores the data and a test SQL server but know idea how to set it up to sync with between databases.

I created a new Setup project to my original project. In my project's code there is this line: Public DBPath As String = My.Computer.FileSystem.SpecialDirectories.MyDocuments & "Visual Studio 2008ProjectsFUV1FUV1FU.mdb" I just wanted to know, if I am instaling the project in other computer that has no VS in it, with the SETUP project, do I need to change this line? something to do with the Application Folder of the Setup project?
I've added a setup and deployment package to my project. When I go to install it the first screen says "Welcome to the setup setup wizard." Obviously, that doesn't look right. I want to change this, but can't figure out where that setting is. How to rename that setting so that it says "Welcome to the Wonderful Program setup wizard" instead?
I do not know much of datasets. I have created a local database with a table as per img 1 attached, and I use them in a simple drop down selector as per img 2. But I get the message as per img 3 , and I played around with the dataset, removing teh primarkey, etc.
I have attached Database to my vb.net application. Client has sql server 2008 express installed.I built my application and gave to him. he is encountering errors.

I am in process of writing a setup program that will reside in a USB stick. After inserting the Stick the VB2008E program starts (dont know how) and guides the technician to do certain tasks. As a part of this She/He needs to run a Setup.exe that resides in the same USB stick.
1- How do I define the drive letter of this USB stick.
2- How do I run the x:Setup.exe program without exiting the VB2008? The install process should begin after click of a button.
3- Would Autorun work on USB drives to run the program automaticaly?
4- How do I compile to make a single EXE file at the end?
I am trying out the Visual Studio 2008 Standard Edition Setup and Deployment - Setup Wizard on a very simple VB 2008 app which includes a simple SQL Express dB. The build works fine and it installs on the target system ok. But when I go to run the application and add a new record for example, I get a "read-only" error indicating that the sql db is read-only. Yet none of the files in the folder are read-only. What is odd is that the folder that it was installed into "acts" like it is read only, yet it is not identified as such. If I move the .exe and db files out of that folder, (onto the desktop for example) it works just fine. Should I set up a post build event or something to make
how to create a setup in vb.net that comes with a ms access database and the .net framework if it is not existing in the system.. and also a crystal report... and also i want my database go automatically to C:

This program is very difficult for me, but I must get threw it or I cannot finish... What I am doing is making a Database of foreign Languages with the spelling of the words and the pronounciation inside the database... The USER enters a paragraph of words into the translator textbox and pushed translate. The program has a DATABANK of words with the phonetic spellings and matches the word, then translates to phonetics. The problem is that new words keep appearing inside the language. So I incorporated a Database of 2 fields
Only my local dataset updates when adding, deleting or editing records. The Source Database is supposed to update on issuing DataAdapter. Update(dataset )However, when I check my source database after running the operations it remains the same as the original.
I am using VS 2008 VB and setup my application software in Win XP without any issue. But after installed in Win 7, it doesn't work well (it show one file not found, but I saw the file in the right folder). Could it be the incompatibility of VS 2008 and Win 7? If I upgrade to VS 2010, will the issue be fixed?
