The header of the UserControl follows, with the offending line highlighted.[code]When that line is present, the compiler generates the following in the output:[code]

Namespace Or Type Specified In The Imports 'MS.Internal.Xaml.Builtins' Doesn't Contain Any Public Member Or Cannot Be Found?

Feb 26, 2010

I have a WPF VB.NET project in Visual Studio 2008. For some reason, Visual Studio thinks that it needs to add anImports MS.Internal.Xaml.Builtinsto every auto-generated XAML partial class (= the nameOfXamlFile.g.vb files), resulting in the following warning:warning BC40056: Namespace or type specified in the Imports 'MS.Internal.Xaml.Builtins' doesn't contain any public member or cannot be found. Make sure the namespace or the type is defined and contains at least one public member. Make sure the imported element name doesn't use any aliases.I can remove the Imports line, but, since this is an auto-generated file, it reappears every time that the project is rebuilt.

Adding Namespace Attribute To XElement - Prevent Blank/empty Namespace On Child Elements?

Mar 17, 2011

I need to read an xml document from a database record into an XDocument object in order for it to be deserialized. So that the deserialization will work, I need to apply a specific namespace to each of the level 1 elements. So XML looks a bit like this:

How do I prevent the blank/empty namespace being added to each child element of the element to which the required namespace has been applied?

Make The App Load And Compile Local Dll?

Oct 7, 2010

is there any way to make the app load and compile local dll?

an exemple:

All process over visual studio 2010

i made an app on win7 that uses shell32.dll but the way that win7 compile his own interlog.shell32.dll it makes the app don't work in XP. But if after i finish the app on win7 send the code to a xp machine and set the shell32.dll on XP the app will work fine.

so... if there was a way to make the app, at his first load, do search from needed dll to compile them for his needs, it will was fantastic.

Dynamically Set Local XML Namespace?

Sep 1, 2010

I have several xml namespaces that expose the same schema.

I want to use a function that dynamically accepts a namespace and applies the attributes or the properties according to the specified namespace:

Public Sub ProcessElement(element As XElement, [namespace] As XNamespace)
element.<[namespace]:Property>.Remove()
End Sub

I actually want to set the namespace resultion withing this function to the given argument.

Look at this article, he does exactly what I want, but I am sure that in VB.NET XML Literals there is a much nicer way than doing it the hardcoded way.

I know I can simply do it like this:

element.Elements([namespace] + "Property").Remove()

But I was wondering if there is a way to include namespaces in VB.NET amazing .<>, .@, ...<> language shortcuts.

Force A Compile-time Warning / When Using An Unassigned Local Variable?

Nov 15, 2010

Today I discovered that something I had assumed about VB.NET for many years was not true (worrying!). I assumed that a variable declared within a loop had a lifetime of the iteration it was declared in, but in fact it seems it has a lifetime of the whole procedure.[code]I had assumed an output of False, True, False, True but instead it is actually False, True, True, True..In C# the equivalent code would not compile as you would get a compile time error of Error "Use of unassigned local variable 'var1'".I realise there are many ways to fix this and that best practice would be to declare the variable outside of the loop and reset it at the beginning of every loop through.I find this behaviour so counter-intuitive to me that I would like at least a compile time warning in VB.NET when/if I do this. (I could also then set this on any projects I already have and get warning that would allow me to check that my assumptions aren't causing errors).Does anyone know how/if I can get this to generate a compile time warning in VB.NET? Am I the only one that finds this counter-intuitive?

Private Shared Variables Vs Local / Namespace Performance

Jun 8, 2009

I came across a number of new Private Shared variables (of type Hashtables(Of String), initialized in the declaration) added to a partial class for a very large (DataContext-derived) class. This seems sensible to me in one sense because they never change, and making these shared variables ensures that they won't get re-initialized every time a function is called. However, these variables are only used within the scope of one function in the class, and I fear the private namespace of this DataContext-derived class is getting rather polluted, and having these sorts of things exposed at such a high level might be confusing to others reading the code in the future.

Would there be negative performance impact to making these local variables within the function where they are used, or is there some better way to handle this? Basically we are using these 3 hashtables to determine whether anything within particular subsets of properties changed (using GetModifiedMembers and then using the Overlaps function of the hashset to see if any of the modified members correspond to members we care about).

Edit: I caved and took the time to write my own test program, which confirmed that there is a cost to using local variables (which I assume applies generally to all cases -- I doubt there's any case where a shared variable would be slower unless using the shared variable requires some additional logic to do so properly): [Code]

So in this particular case, using the local variable costs about 200%. But in most cases (including my own), the time is probably negligible compared to the overall task. So I guess the question now becomes, how do people generally feel about improving code maintainability at the cost of negligible but known performance impacts?

Stop Appendchild Adding A Blank Namespace?

Aug 28, 2011

I've been having fun with the xmldocument class recently but am struggling with namespaces. I've been trying (with some success) to merge parts of one XML file into another. The problem has been that one of them utilises a namespace on one of the interior nodes and therefore my xpath queries where failing when I tried to create a nodelist. This I fixed (after reading some great examples here) by adding a namespace manager and changing my query accordingly.

Everything looked fine initially and I appeared to end up with the desired effect, but the XML file that was created was failing in the target application. What I didn't realise at first (due to the length of the xml node values being wider than my screen!!) was that when I imported the nodes from one file to another, a blank names space was being added to the end of each node (xmlns="")

' load the xml template from the project resources
Dim fdf As New XmlDocument
fdf.LoadXml(My.Resources.fdf_template)

Adding 1st Explictly Named Namespace To A Project Breaks The Use Of Implicit (i.e. Global) Namespaces?

Sep 27, 2010

I am working on a solution that does not name namespaces in code files. Instead it uses the root name space of the project (which is the same across all assemblies). Basically there is only one implicit namespace.

Well, I am trying to isolate some code so that I can run FxCop against it. I explicated named the code file with a namespace to do this. This works for FxCop, but it bricks the entire solution.Visual Studio is now asking me to prefix all uses of the implicit namespace with Global. So instead of:

C# - Adding Text Into A Video And Saving The Output?

Jun 17, 2009

What I'm trying to do is take a 'input' video file (I can make it whatever file type will make this the easiest) and then, through my code, add text to the video file. for example, it would take 'Sample1.mpg' and output 'Sample2.mpg'. It wouldn't show the video (I've found some tutorials that talk about overlaying text as the video plays; but not actually modifying the video file.

Basically, I'd like to be able to say, 'From seconds 1 to 200, draw 'Hi Mom' at position 0,0 with this font' and have that saved in the outputed video. Whenever you run the outputted video, with any player, you'd end up seeing the text; because it'd be part of the video file.I've heard claims like, 'DirectShow!' but I'd really welcome anything slightly more specific.

VS 2010 Datagridview - Bound To A Local Databse Table Through A Linq To SQL Class - Adding Does Not Work

Sep 5, 2010

I have a datagridview which is bound to a local databse table through a Linq to SQL class.

Everything works as I would expect, when the application runs, up to a point.

If, in the datagridview tasks pane I enable Adding, Editing and Deleting all work as expected.

If I disable Adding & Deleting, leaving Editing enabled, Editing works as expected.

If I disable Deleting & Editing, but leave Adding enabled, Adding does not work, despite the row for new records being displayed. I can move around the row but not enter data.

I suspect somehow its the datasource as opposed to the datagridview that is the cause of my problem but as I say, I can add rows if the Enable Editing option is selected.

Changing the relevant properties programatically makes no difference.

I've been searching for the reason for a couple of days without success.

I have a workaround, by leaving Enable Editing set and programatically setting each row during the RowPostPaint event to be readonly except the row for new records. I would just like to understand what is going on.
