I want to get local system ip address using vb.net. I trying to use Net.Dns.GetHostAddresses(My.Computer.Name)(0).ToString and it works fine in some pc's. I am using local area network and for some pc's it is returning one ipaddress and for some pc's it is returning two ipaddress. ex: 0.4.1.0 and 192.168.0.160.
Why I am getting two ip's for some pc's.

I'm trying to write a small app that finds the local machine's IP address (and SNM, DefGW, 1st DNS server, etc) then displays this nicely.
I don't want to go down the route of doing a Shell "ipconfig /all > somefile" then reading it in as I *know* this can be done another way.
I'm using VB 2008 Express Edition.
In html it's easy to get a button to get an file on your local hard drive but I can't seem to find or remember how to do it for a VB application (using Visual Basic 2010). What I would like is for the button to find a local directory, select it and then add the address to a textbox.

I noticed that in order for the e-mail address to validate, I need to put in at least 3 characters before the @ symbol. Is this a requirement? What if I just want to have an e-mail address with 1 or 2 characters before the @ symbol?

i made an app on win7 that uses shell32.dll but the way that win7 compile his own interlog.shell32.dll it makes the app don't work in XP. But if after i finish the app on win7 send the code to a xp machine and set the shell32.dll on XP the app will work fine.
so... if there was a way to make the app, at his first load, do search from needed dll to compile them for his needs, it will was fantastic.

I did a whole lot of work on searching and coding myself, but without succes. Probably it works one way, but not backways. I think the response doesn't work. I really don't know what to do now.

View 7 RepliesI need to make an address book that doesnt use a database.It suppose to have [code]All information shall be stored in a structure at run time.The application should read and write to a data file.Make sure the application includes previous, next, add, save, and delete buttons.When graded by your instructor, there should be at least five entries in the address book.But the book doesnt show me how to do it and the only online stuff I can find is threw databases and nothing else. I asked the teacher and he says no database for this one, the idea is to use flat files (txt) and I have no idea how to even really start this one.[code]

In my project I have a Template for an MS Access database. My desired behavior is that when the users clicks File-->New, they can create a new copy of this template, give it a filename, and save it to their local directory.
The database already has the tables and some starting data needed to interface with my application (a user-friendly data editor)
I'm thinking the approach is to include this "template.accdb" file as a resource in the project, and write it to a file somehow at runtime?
I have a chat server / client system running, but I want users to authenticate with my vBulletin forum database.I don't want the client to do it, because it is possible to fake the 'successful login' and connect with a fake username. I want to send the username and password details to the server, and make the server check it with the local vBulletin MySQL database for the username and password.Is there a way to do this? To my knowledge vBulletin has a username and a password entries in the database which is salted, and the salt varies from user to user.
