.net - Using Regex OR Operator To Solve 2 Conditions?

I am trying to combine 2 regular expressions into 1 with the OR operator: |
I have one that checks for match of a letter followed by 8 digits:
Regex.IsMatch(s, "^[A-Z]d{8}$")
I have another that checks for simply 9 digits:
Regex.IsMatch(s, "^d{9}$")

Apparently I am not combining the two correctly and apparently I am horrible at regular expressions.And for those wondering, I did take a glance at How to combine 2 conditions and more in regex and I am still scratching my head.

I have a string like this
(THQ836721='Yes' and BRQ836716='Yes') or (BRQ836717='Yes') and (THQ836728='Yes' and BRQ836756='Yes') or (BRQ836117='Yes') and (SYSQ123='No')
I need a Reg Ex to get the numbers after THQ,BRQ and SYSQMy string may smaller or shorter or may have any times of this THQ,BRQ or SYSQ.form a Reg eXpression to get the numbers .The length of numbers may vary I am using VB.Net in VS2008?

Other than perhaps enhanced readability for very simple patterns, why would someone choose to use the Like operator in VB.NET over regular expressions for string pattern matching? Are there any advantages?

I am tightening up my coding with the Option Strict set to ON. It has now produced alot of errors. An example of this is:
If AllocatedDGV.Rows(i).Cells("RoomNumber").Value = RoomsAvailableDGV.Rows(j).Cells("RoomName").Value Then
It gives me the following error: Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity.

I need to write an interface to get data to/from our data files.
We have a low level class that holds field values for each record read from the files.
This just holds two values, the value read from the file (DBValue) and the updated value that may need to be written back to the file (CurrentValue).
These values may be any of the standard value types (integer, date etc) or a string.
Either value (DBValue or CurrentValue) may be null if not defined.
I have written the class to manage this data which works fine while option strict is NOT on.
But we have an office policy of having option strict on all the time.
When I put option strict on, my object value comparisons fail with the error: "Option Strict On disallows operands of type Object for operator '='. Use the 'Is' operator to test for object identity."
Question, how should I change the following code to handle option strict on ...
This is all running on Visual Studio 2010

I am having an issue where I am using regex.Replace to replace part of a string. The basic idea is that I want to capture the beginning of the string then replace the end of the string with a value from code. For an example pretend I have a string that says "Test Number " followed by number and I want to increment that number. I capture the "Test Number " but when I try to concatenate that capture with the new number it treats the capture ($1) as a literal and replaces the entire string with $1[new number].

This will output "We are on Test Number 2", as expected. how I can use a variable in the replacement string portion of the Regex.Replace when including a captured group?

I have single-thread windows form application written with VB.NET and targeting Framework 1.1. The software communicates with external boards through a serial interface, and it mainly consist of a state machine that run some tests, driven in a loop done with a Timer and an Interval of 50ms. The feedback on the user interface is done through some custom events raised during the tests.
The problem that is driving me crazy is that the performance slightly decrease over time, and in particular after 1200/1300 test operations. The memory occupied does not increase over time, it is only the CPU that seems interested by this problem. The strange thing is that, targeting framework 2.0 and using the same identical code, I do not have this problem.
I know that is difficult without looking at the code, but do you have suggestions how can I approach the problem? EDIT: I am really lost, after a couple of intensive work the application starts slowing down. The selected row is related to its process, if it could help.
EDIT2: Using the Windows Task Manager I detected that the Handles counter is increased by 1 at the end of each operation. I don't know if it is the cause but the application starts to slow down when the handles counter reaches about 1500 handles. I checked that all necessary RemoveHandler are called after each operation. Any idea?
EDIT3: I found that the handles problem is generated by the C++ library we are using to communicated with the serial device. It then happens both in .NET 1.1 and .NET 2.0. The difference, and that's strange, is that if the target .NET 1.1 the application slow down/freeze instead for .NET 2.0 I reached more than 30000 handles without loosing performances. Now I don't know if the problem is really caused by this lost handles, I will try to ask to the developers of C++ library to correct the problem and see if it solves the problem I am having on .NET 1.1.

Similar to using VAL(a$) to return the numerical value of a string, is there a function for returning the solution of an equation that is user-typed into a textbox? For instance, user types F$=(a+b*x)/(c*x^2-d*x^3) where the variables of the equation are either pulled from a textbox or derived within the code. I am looking for something like F=Solve(F$).

I'm creating a program in VB.NET to output multiple images. Some images will have the same file name. If there is multiple files with the same name I want to add "_1_" to the end of the file name. If the "_1_" file already exists I want to increment the 1 to be "_2_". If this file already exists I want to continue incrementing the number ultil it doesn't exist. I've been working straight since yesterday trying to get this to work. I'm a noob to RegEx and I've tested out about 5 different RegEx "builders" but each of them require you to navigate through the options to build the Regex...each of them has failed when I try to use them.Is there an application out there free/paid where you select the line you want to grab and the RegEx is auto generated from that highlight rather than having to try to build the line of code?
