.net - App Works In IDE But Throws An Error When Compiled And Run On Another Machine?

Nov 15, 2009

I have created an application using VB.NET in VS2008. When I run the app in the IDE on my development machine it works fine. It also works fine when I build it and run it as an exe on any machine that also has Visual Studio installed (at least 2005 and 2008 anyway) However, when I try to run the compiled executable on any machine without Visual Studio it throws up an error "[program name] has encountered a problem and will close..."

Will App Compiled On 64 Bit Run On 32 Bit Machine

Nov 20, 2010

I'm buying a new computer this week and the one I want has Windows 7 Home Edition 64 bit. I program in VB.NET using VS2008. If I write a program and compile on this 64 bit windows, will it run in 32 bit? I did some reading and from what I understand is if it is not using any specific 64 bit drivers I should be good. I'm not doing anything fancy that I know of as far as drivers. I just wanted to see what everyone's past experience has been.

Compiled For 32 Bit Running On 64 Bit Machine Using SQLite

Feb 20, 2012

Here's the situation - I have a vb.net exe compiled for X86 machines using 2 dll's... Because one of the dll's was only provided in 32 bit, and I didn't want to have to deal with 32/64 versions, I forced 32 bit in compile options and everything was fine. Now I have a 64 bit workstation that is throwing an error about the sqlite.dll (error #1 below).

after reading around I am starting to understand a lot of people are having this issue. I tried replacing the dll on the client machine with the 64 bit version of sqlite and that didn't work (error #2). I read somewhere that the 64 bit version requires VC 2010 redistro, but that didn't work. I can't compile this app as a 64 bit because of the other dll is 32 bit.

Running 32bit Compiled Program/DLL On 64bit Machine?

May 20, 2011

I have some programs written in VB2010 using functions from a DLL. I have compiled and run these programs on a 32bit XP computer and a 32bit Win7 computer and have had no problems accessing the DLL.I have published an installation of these programs and tried running the install on a 64bit Win7 machine and the installation is performed correctly. It installs the programs and copies the required DLL into the same folder. the problem is that whenever I run the software and try to access the DLL I get errors.

The error says something like:

An unhandled exception has occurred in your application. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format. (Exception from HRESULT:0x8007000B)

If I click past it the software runs and all of the forms are loaded properly, but anytime in the software if I try to access the DLL I get the same error.I am declaring functions in the DLL like this:

Public Declare Function OpenDriver Lib "OP815M.DLL" (ByVal handle_Renamed As Integer) As Integer

I have also tried placing the DLL in the system32 directory and also the sysWOW64 directory and that did not help as well.I do recall that hardware drivers need to be properly signed and pass the Microsoft Logo testing. Must I get the DLLs I am using properly signed?

Edit: Also it might be fair to mention that I have used the DLL with another program written in C, which would run in the DOS command line in Windows and it correctly accesses the DLL on a 64bit machine, but just when run from the DOS command line in windows.

DB/Reporting :: Access-database Connection Provider (like Dao Or Ado.net) That Works On A 64 Bit Machine?

Jul 8, 2010

I've created a small DLL, an addin for Autodesk Inventor, this addin saves some information provided by the user and the program to an access(mdb)database. The whole idea behind this is that it allows users to quickly find drawings, assemblies and so on.The DLL works great on x86 systems however it has issues on x64 because I used ado.net.In a attempt to solve it I forced .net to compile it with the target x86 CPU settings.

However using this I'm unable register the dll (C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFramework64v2.0.50727RegAsm.exe /codebase SavetoDatabase.dll )It says its not a proper .net dll file and therefore cannot be registered.

is there any other access-database connection provider (like dao or ado.net) that works on a 64 bit machine? Or do I need to change from mdb databases to another type (like mysql)? because sooner or later all machines its running on will be converted to x64.Or do I need to register the dll in another way?I've also tried to replace the conn.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 with ACE, with no luck however

Running Pre-Compiled & Non-Pre-Compiled Webpages Under One Virtual Directory

Feb 21, 2011

I've a requirement to have PreCompiled webpages and Non-PreCompiled webpages under same application. For example below is my structure:

/Bin
/Test1 (PreCompiled)
/Test2 (NonPreCompiled)
/Test3 (PreCompiled)

I would like these to have their separate "Bin" folders too if possible at all (I tried using "Probing" but I guess that's not allowed for web apps and defaults to "Bin" folder). If not that then definitely some ability for these to work together under one app/virtual directory because I'm not allowed to create another at any cost :(

Getting Selected Rows From Listview Always Throws Out Error

Feb 8, 2012

I am trying to get the selected rows from a listview. To achieve this, I did this:

Dim numsel As Integer
numsel = Me.ListView1.Items.Count
For countme As Integer = 0 To numsel

[Code]....

It does count the selected rows, but it always throws out the error saying "ArgumentOutOfRange Exception", or something along those lines. For example, if I selected a row, it will output the results of that row. But the loop goes on. I tried everything I can but to no avail. I specifically want to select multiple rows, and I can achieve that if someone can assist me with this simple "problem" I have.

Valid Number Throws Overflow Error

Oct 6, 2010

I have a major problem. Things were going great until I came across this little bug(?) which has thrown a stick in my spokes. As I will demonstrate below, it seems that when defining certain numbers Visual Studio will throw an overflow error.
Dim T As ULong = 14774537964905701134 'Overflow error in the IDE
Dim M As ULong = ULong.MaxValue '(18446744073709551615) we are below the maximum value so it should work, right?

The one solution I have found is that we can use the following declaration instead.
Dim T As ULong = ULong.Parse("14774537964905701134")
However, to make matters even more complicated the value in question is unknown and must be compiled using CodeDOM so using the Parse method isn't an option. Unless there is some way I can determine if that value in particular will give me an overflow error.

Webbrowser.navigate To Tif Throws Browser Error?

Oct 27, 2009

I recently upgrade a project from vb 6 to 2008. Most of the code runs fine.I have a webbrowser form control that I use to navigate local files and display them with. (i have a file list box that you click which calls the navigate of the browser control). Most file types i have test work fine and display just as they would in a real browser window. Excel, PDFs, etc... so examples of files that utilize "plugins" like acrobat reader inside the browser work great. Tiff files are the exception. No error is thrown in vb, but the browser throws 2 runtime errors, included at the end here. After the browser errors are ignored the program continues execution but will just not display the file.

i can type the path to the file (eg c: estfielsfilename.tif) in a regular browser window and it displays just like it should, inside IE, using a plugin.Prior to upgrading, depending on what was installed on the computer, navigating to a tif would open the tif with picture and fax viewer, or display it with a tif viewer plugin.

Split String Error In A Compiled Class?

Apr 1, 2010

I'm having some trouble compiling some VB code I wrote to split a string based on a set of predefined delimeters (comma, semicolon, colon, etc). I have successfully written some code that can be loaded inside a custom VB component (I place this code inside a VB.NET component in a plug-in called Grasshopper) and everything works fine. For instance, let's say my incoming string is "123,456". When I feed this string into the VB code I wrote, I get a new list where the first value is "123" and the second value is "456".However, I have been trying to compile this code into it's own class so I can load it inside Grasshopper separately from the standard VB component. When I try to compile this code, it isn't separating the string into a new list with two values. Instead, I get a message that says "System.String []". Do you guys see anything wrong in my compile code? You can find an screenshot image of my problem at the following link: click to see image This is the VB code for the compiled class:

Asp.net - DropDownList Throws An Error When A ListItem Is Not Present Anymore?

I am attempting to list files within a folder on an FTP site. When I run the debugger, I get a clean run the first time with no problems. Subsequent attempts lead to a 550 error: "The remote server returned an error: (550) File unavailable (e.g., file not found, no access)."
