.net - Apply Common Codes In Inherited BaseEdit For Inheriting Classes - In Order To Build A Read Only User?
Feb 20, 2012
In businesslayer, there is a inherited Class Called BaseEdit which contains contractor and base properties. There are about 30 CustomEdit (inheriting classes), all of them has methods "Load","Save" and "Delete". The require for this existing system is to add a readonly user. Possible solutions considering the cost of works:
1) Modify the BaseEdit so all CustomEdit can stay the same. The system will check 'user role' in session by using httpcontext then to accept or reject the user's action.

I seem to be having a problem with controls that I am creating as new classes (not UserControls) inheriting from an existing system control. Everything seems ok while I create the control code, through to the compile (which is successful and adds the control to the toolbox) and dragging the control from the toolbox to the GUI surface. However, when I then debug or compile the project, I get a message such

This is more of a conceptual question than anything.
I have a base class called "RawReader".
It sets up the framework for classes to inherit it and read in specific data systems.
For example, I want an app read in a known format of FoxPro database, a CSV file, or a SQL database (there is about 8 more formats currently), then transfer it over a webservice and create a SQL database from it.
I have everything working with CSV, FoxPro, Access, Excel, etc... Easy enough.
The classes that inherit RawReader, like RawCSV, RawFoxPro, RawAccess all return a struct that contains a dataset as one of the members. The dataset contains the data from the raw system. The webservice receives this struct and creates sql tables and loads the data into it. This has already been coded and works great.
My issue now comes to reading in SQL. Obviously, I could follow the same path, read the remote SQL DB into a dataset, transfer the dataset as above, etc... My "issue" comes in where I feel like it doesnt make much sense to transfer a SQL db to a dataset, transfer it through the webservice, and then try to programmatically recreate the SQL database. I feel like I lose a lot of the granular details from the SQL database (field sizes, extended info, etc..) It seems easier in practice to just create a backup of the database, convert it to a stream object and transfer the backup over to the webservice. But this is where the problem lies...
Since all of the classes inherit from the base class, they are set up to return a DataSet. The hack-ish way would be to just add a stream object to the return struct and in my webservice add other code to make a special case for SQL sources, but I was trying to avoid that.
Any thoughts on the "proper" way to go about something like this?

I want to be able to incorporate some constant definitions and enum types in multiple classes of mine.Something akin to including a header file in C++. How do I do this best in VB.NET? I'm having a hard time because the only way I can see to do it is to inherit a class with the definitions in it but there is no multiple inheritance in vb.net so I am having some issues with that.

I have two projects
a.sln and b.sln they have their own classes, modules and forms.
As I work on solution 'A' I devise a class and save it in solution A's folder. As the class develops, I now find a need for it in solution B.
How can I move it from solution A's folder to my Common folder then link it into solution A and B.
Currently I am doing this manually, Moving then linking to it. Is there a way to do this withing the IDE

How can I structure my classes so that the user interfaces though a single class while the supporting classes are hidden from their view? I think its best understood in an example:
Public Class MyInterface
Public Economic as EconomicClass
Public Sub New()
MyBase.New()
[code].....
So you might ask why am I even separating them? It's strictly for others who will be working with this interface. I need to funnel them though a logical structure:
interface.Economic.MyMethod
interface.Currency.MyMethod
etc
This way everything is already handled for them in the background and they only need to run the method they need. I don't know if I can have it both ways in VB.NET.

I have a component class that inherits a user control class and i'm trying to inherit from that same class in a new class.public class B inherits class Unfortunately, I get an error pointing to the .g.vb file saying:Base class 'System.Windows.Controls.UserControl' specified for class '...' cannot be different from the base class '...' of one of its other partial types When I swap the "Inherits System.Windows.Controls.UserControl" with inherits from the base class in .vb files the program compiles but when I try to access any of the components I get an error saying "Object reference not set to an instance of an object."Why is it doing this? it's as if the my sub class isn't inheritingUserControl method at all.

When I try to create an Inherited User Control everything goes fine until I specify the base control and press "Add" in the Inheritance dialog. The code in the newly created Control should have a "Inherited From" statement, but it doesn't and nothing works after that. I even tried following the ctlClocklib project and the same thing happened. ctlAlarmClock.vb was created but the "Inherited From" statement was missing.

I am creating a multi-user application using VB 2005 Pro and SQL Server 2005.I would like to know what your ideas are when it comes to managing user permissions in regard to being able to view, add, edit and delete information in the database? Do you think I should have the end user type in the information into the VB application which then will create an SQL server user and then apply permissions to that security user or should I fine-grain the application by allowing groups to be created and then assigning permissions and users to those groups?

So - I have some text in an RTF control. I want the user to be able to highlight text and apply an attribute. The following code is placed into a button called BOLD and seems to work nicely:
If rtfText.SelectedText.Length > 0 Then
rtfText.SelectionFont = New Font(rtfText.SelectionFont, FontStyle.Bold)
End If
The code above will turn the selected text bold.
But then the user selects the Same text and with the following code placed into a button called ITALIC it removes the bold attribute and replaces it with italics.
If rtfText.SelectedText.Length > 0 Then
rtfText.SelectionFont = New Font(rtfText.SelectionFont, FontStyle.Italic)
End If
Since the users actions are separate - I can not know that they want BOLD and ITALIC, so how do I make sure I keep the existing attribute on the selected text (which, by the way could be part bold and part not-bold) and add italic?
Somehow I need to add the italic attribute to the selected text, not simply replace all attributes with italic.

I wrote some codes for student login. the codes checks for the "username", "password" as well as their type of "status", from the database. once this input are met, the student logs in successful, otherwise a message pops up.The problem i encountered is this, i have 11 student records in my database and only the first 6 students can login successfully. the remaining 5 students cannot login. Despite entering the correct username, password and status for the last 5 students in the database, the message "Invalid username and password" comes up. I don't know where my code went wrong or maybe i didn't write the right codes to accept all student records as well as new ones.
Here's my code for the login:
Private Sub btnLogin_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnLogin.Click
