.net - Get Intellisense To Display The Meaning Of An Enum Value?
Sep 1, 2010
get Intellisense in Visual Studio 2005 to display the meaning of individual enum values for a VB.NET project. This already happens for enums that are a part of the .NET library?

I've found the ability to make meaningful Intellisense-enabled comments on my functions and sub routines absolutely priceless.
I'm wondering if I can do the same when an Enum is defined. I'd like for each Enum highlighted in the drop list to have some information associated with it. Can that be done?

I am using Visual Studio 2010 Prof. In C# I can create my own Enumerator and use it like this:MyEnum value = Now, Intellisense will suggest a value of MyEnum. In VB, when I write:Dim value As MyEnum = I get a huge list of every types. When starting to write my enumerator value (could be a word like "sunny") it filters out some types but I would like to have it like in C#. Anyway I will use the MyEnum type and no "String nor Objecte nor IntPtr...".

Now when i get value back from protocoltype it returns me integer value as enum do so tell me how to get string from enum or other substitute.

I've added an attribute for a user readable display name to my Enum values. However my code to convert from the user readable display name back to the Enum (function ToEnum) seems very convoluted.I am wondering if I am missing a better way of doing this (I am using Visual Studio 2010 with SP1.) I'm trying to declare an enumeration and one of the names I'd like to use for an item is not usable apparently. Where I am declaring 'STEP = 3', I get this error message in visual studio: "Statement cannot appear within an Enum body. End of statement expected." Is it possible to use STEP as an item name somehow? [Code]

I have just received an interesting feedback from a VB.NET customer using our product - for some reason intellisense hidden a certain enumeration value. After a small testing I have found that this is likely a bug in IntelliSense: [URL]..To be honest, I did not expect this problem with such a basic stuff like this. Have you seen this in the past? For me, it doesn't work in all VS versions...
Anyway, feel free to track this issue if you are coding in VB.NET.

Which is better, using a nullable enum or adding the value None=0 to your enum list?Using nullables requires more code, but I kind of like it since it forces me to think about the possibility. Otherwise I'm liable to forget about the None enum and fail to account for it being a special case.

I have a simple javascript I want to run in a contentpage (meaning inside a master). I test the javascript in a normal .aspx page like this:
HTML Code:
code:
And that works fine. Now, how do i transfer the java code to the content page? I just don't know where to put it, as I am already past the "Head" section of the page. From what i can read this should be right:
HTML Code:
code:
But that just returns an "error on page" message. I also tried putting the script in the head section of the masterpage. The error remains the same, and I do not want it there anyway. Anyone know where to place the script code?

I was just wondering what is the meaning of placing the '$' character after a function call
E.g.: Dim time as string = Format$(Now, "Long Time")
And what is funny is that it is of no use (as far as I can see).

The problem is the class="pass_section" in the xsl. I need to set that value dynamically in the VB code (meaning put a run-time value in the xml to set it).

Some of my students end up with a different icon in the Solution Explorer when they create applications. An example is the attached Exam.vb icon, which includes a little arrow into the normal Form icon (see pic) . I am guessing it means it is linked some how. When the application is zipped and submitted, an error is thrown when I unzip it to grade it which indicates that the file in not part of the project, and it references the absolute address on the original application.Any idea what caused this and how can I instruct the students to avoid it in the future?

I find myself frequently turning off Intellisense because it adds wrong choices to my code. For example if I try to type "i " (without the quotes) it causes "int " to be put into my code. If I type "for " it may put "form " into my text.
Reaching for the ESC key constantly slows down my typing. (It's such a long way to reach for small hands). Is there an alternative way to exit out of intellisense without the highlighted choice being placed into my code, or is a way I can define a different key for this purpose?
