.raise Different Types Of Audio Notifications To The User?
Apr 12, 2010
I need to be able to raise different types of audio notifications to the user. I need an "ok" and an "error" type sounds, I was hoping to be able to raise a simple beep and a critical stop type sound but I can only find the Beep() command which doesn't allow for differing sounds. Is there a library that does what I need or will I need to roll my own using the system wavs.
I'm developing a standslone system for my school project. I'm developing an audio management system which allow user to add audio files itself into database together with the audio information such as artist name and album year. I just started it few days ago and face some problems.. my song in the playlist wont continue to play after 1 finished and i need some idea on how to store the audio files into database ... in blob types may be?
Heres the screenshot and codes
Public Class Form1
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles bt_add.Click
I have done this the other way many times as it makes sense (the page knows about the control as it has been added to the page and can handle the 'child' event)
Is it possible to do it the other way? I think not as the control doesn't know what page it is going to be on
The reason i ask this is that I have a modal popup on the page to ask users to login, and it is only when the user has logged in that I want my user control to go away and execute some code but I am not too sure how to tell the control this has happend?
I'm trying to save what the user types in the vb code Dim user as Inputbox("") for example in a .txt file i can save the textbox and listbox but i cnt figure out how to save the inputbox i really need this to be saved the most.
i have two texts boxes where the user can enter pay per hour and expected raise % per year.when the calculate button is clicked it calculates yearly base on a 40 hour and 52 week base. the raise increases each amount after the first year and does it for the next ten years. yearly amount is displayed for the next ten years.
I am new to vb.net and I have looked at other topics. I cannot find the answer I need. OK I have a combobox named cboRaceDesc and five checkboxes (CkRaceAfricanAmerican, ChkRaceAmerican Indian, ckRaceAsian, ckRacePacificIslander, and ckRaceWhite). I was going to post an image, but I cannot.cboRaceDesc has two options...Hispanic and Other. If the user selects Other then they have to choose one of the five checkboxes or it will raise an exception when the record is being saved. I am assuming I would generate the code under the "save" button. I know I need to gather the following information in my code:
If cboRaceDesc.SelectedValue = Other Then <I am not sure how to code the logic regarding the checkboxes> <I know I need to use multiple else/else if statements> <I know towards the end I would generate the exception> End
Can anyone help me fill in the blanks or point me in the right direction?
How can i play an audio that possibly mp3 or wav without let the user to select the file by using the open dialog box. i want the audio to play when the user press a key. for example user press key 1 then audio1.mp3 will be play. Please suggest me something and provide the simple code if possible.
I'm a VB6 programmer who was forced to upgrade to Visual Studio 2005 Version 8.0.50727.42 .NET Framework Version 2.0.50727. I am trying to write a call-back which will intercept a Windows message for when our USB HID device is plugged or unplugged. We have a custom .dll which handles the majority of the HID interface. I just need to call a few API's to connect to the device. I can connect and communicate.
I am looking at USB Complete Third Edition. The code examples do not compile. I'm unsure if this is because of the .NET version 2 or the 2005 dialog of VB. I cannot resolve "StructLayout..." statements, but the program appears to be working without them. I cannot get any "Marshal." statements to compile, which is where I am finding it difficult to get around.
[Code]...
Although OnDeviceChange() is being called six times, both IF statements fail. m.msg is 0x219, which is Device Change. m.WParm is always 7, m.lParm is always 0. And, this is where I'm stuck. m.lParm should be a pointer which gets me to the device path? Don't know what 7 is.
So, maybe I'm not registered to receive the proper messages from the device (or I'm looking in the wrong place). The missing step might be to call the RegisterDeviceNotification() API. This book is telling me to use frmMy.Handle declared globally as Friend frmMy As frmUSB - that gives me a null reference runtime error, so I swapped in Me.Handle for the first parameter to RegisterDeviceNotification(). It likes that. But, then it has heartburn with the buffer pointer - not so easy to resolve in Visual Basic. The call wants a LONG. I have DevBroadcastDeviceInterfaceBuffer, which the book says to use Marshal.AllocHGlobal(Size) and Size is Marshal.Sizeof(DevBroadcastDeviceInterface). Neither Marshal statement compiles and I'm not sure if it was removed in this version of .NET? Anyone? I really don't need a dynamically allocated buffer. This is quickie VB app for a single USB device.
Can anyone tell me how far down the rabbit hole I am and what I'm missing. I can tell when something changes to some USB device. I have a handle to that device supplied to me by a custom API library - probably is the HID handle.
How can I setup to receive a message when my HID USB device is unplugged or plugged in?
want my application to trigger audio files when the user clicks a word/sentence in a label, and show a tooltip on mouse hover. I use VB. I tried using TTS (SAPI 3.5), but can not know which language the user's operating system will have. Also, I was advise to use pre-recorded sound wav or mp3. I created the audio files, but am not able to link/connect/call.
I am currently using Snarl to generate notifications whenever an event / error occurs in my program. How would I go about coding a native VB notification instead of using a 3rd party program?
Well I had a thread going that branched out to this topic, so rather completely veering off the main topic there, I felt creating a new thread was adequate. So as the title says, I'm trying to create a user-defined type. It's not a simple type at that but a user here had showed me a way to fix all my problems. That was to create a type BigDecimal. Which my initial thought was to utilize the BigInteger type. Being that the Integer Part, and Fractional parts would be split off into two variables, both BigIntegers. Which would be combined at the end as a "decimal". However I have many many questions see that this is my first attempt at truly creating a type of my own. So as of right now I'm basically swinging in the dark here.
In a VB.NET Web Site, the User Types syntax coloring doesn't work. What are potential causes of this? It seems to not understand the difference between a "User Type" and an "Identifier." Note: C# works as expected.
Is there a way to make a listview select an item based on what a user types? for example, If i have a listview with a column (last name), and the Listview is in focus, I want the user to be able to start typing and have the row select move to the row that has the letters in that column
I just want to ask or I need some idea on how to convert wav files to mp3 and compressed the file to make the size smaller. I've search on the internet and find vorbis.dll as a reference object and lame.exe for converter. With regards to the audio compression, i downloaded monkey's audio software but doesnt have an idea on how to incorporate it.
Im trying to capture the audio played on my laptop. so i have searched the internet and found a source code for doing exactly that. the problem i have is that my audio device is not listed in the dropdown box (see picture) but it does when its run on windows xp (im running windows 7 x64) the goal of this application would be to capture my friends radio stream and save the individual played mp3's to a loction on my hard drive.(yes i have permission) i have included the source code so perhaps some 1 could have a look at it. (source code)[URL]
Within the application, I need to have two levels of access: Standard User and Power User, for example. These two levels can have the same access level within Windows. It is not my intention to elevate to administratoWhat is needed, is a way to have two different groups of users.ne group will be able to run the application while a second group has access to additional features within the application but not within the windows environment It is my hope that there will be two user account types: 1) Standard User and 2) some other user type such as Power User or something else that will distinguish it from Standard User
Basically I just want it so that someone can type in their password but it comes up as Asterisks (*) instead of their password.I'm using VB 2010 and making a Console Application.
I have a database application developed around Access with VBA,I have used the Speech SDK and developed an application that in conjunction with MSCOMM 6.0 library calls into a remote IVR system. It sends in the credentials and queries information in response to that IVR's verbal requests. All seems successfull except for one problem;I'm using a shared SR engine and its using the system microphone as its audio input, this in turn gets the sound from the speakers which are routed to the telephone line through the modem. Of course this has a number of disadvantages - noise added to the sound from the environment and sound quality degredation as well as speaker volume dependency.
I would like the SR engine to take its audio input from the modem in paralell with the sound that goes to the speakers (so we can listen in to the call as well). This means that I must route the system audio output to the SR engine audio input. It seems that I must use an InProc SR instance - however in VBA that type is not recognized - since the shared SR uses the microphone as input by default. there is some statement to the effect that it is difficult in Microsoft's Help file. I'm unable to set the SR audio input to the modem output stream in VBA.As needed I can accomplish the C++ interface using an ActiveX object or a DLL to expose the missing API to VBA?
I have a vb.net application in which there is a main form. There are around 10 classes each having their own functionalities like tcpactions, fileactions, serialport actions etc. The user interacts with the main form and does certain actions which will invoke the methods in these classes. Now I have a notifications textarea in the mainform and i want to show the current action being performed in those classes and their results in the notifications area.
for example when a user clicks a "Start Process" Button in the form i invoke the method "launchprocess" in a class "ProcessActions". Now this method tries to launch about 7 different process and after launching it sends notification such as "process 1 launched" or if it fails it sends notifications such as "process 1 launch failed".
I currently use event handlers and use them to show notifications but with the amount of events i have to handle it is getting cumbersome and i might have to add even more classes in the future. So is there a better way of handling notifications from other classes.
I have a RichTextBox with an OnChanged event. The OnChanged event should look at each line in the RichTextBox and if the line is of prime length colour it red, otherwise colour it black. How do I do this? I think it is possible to select from index a to index b and set selection colour, but I think this will lose my cursor position.
i am trying to design and code a simple help desk program. i would like it to send the details that the user selects and types from the form i have designed (see picture) and also to send the username, computer name, servername and a copy of the windows event log for the previous 15 minutes, to a designated email address in pretend I.T. department.
I have a database of asset information with asset age as one of the columns..now i wish to display all the assets which crossed 4 years in the current year
for example if a person types in multiple characters that represent a certain image in the input box for example if i type "tom" in the input box each letter represents a different image. Can i display those 3 images on the form somewhere? this is what i have so far...
Dim character As String = InputBox("Please enter a word")
I know that much but im not sure how i can connect the letter with a image for example
PictureBox1.Image = My.Resources.pic02
i want t to = my.resources.pic02 and i want it to display on the picturebox1.image
I'm currently attempting to use a .NET WebBrowser to display help information (stored locally in html files) for an application I'm writing, however I'm experiencing two problems, both related to hyperlinks.
Firstly, I have a search function which returns the correct URL in the format file:\C:... I can copy and paste it into a browser, and it will navigate there. Yet clicking on the link within the control itself does nothing at all.
Secondly, the HTML files all contain relative paths to other HTML files. These of course do not work as I just end up with file:\C:help.html which gives me a 'webpage is unavailable.' But I can't think of a way to get it to work without parsing the HTML file and concatenating the path to the directory on to the front of the link.
Just to clarify, in the first problem I am dynamically building a search result page as the user types. The HTML contains several results similar to this (yes, it's unfinished, I'm just showing you the link part): [code] Now, when I click on that link in the control nothing happens, it doesn't give me a 'webpage is unavailable' or take me to the actual page. Saving the HTML, however, and opening it with Chrome, IE and Firefox works fine.In the second problem, I have a different help file for different sections, each containing relative links to several others. VB picks these up as direct paths, and attempts to go there from root, i.e file:\C:file.html. The only solution I can think of is to parse the file and use WebBrowser.Navigate(Path.Combine(pathToDirectory, nameOfHelpFile.html), which seems a lot more inefficient than it should be.
Is there a way to make the textbox stop typing when a user types numbers? I don't want an error message, I'd just like the user to be able to insert 10 numbers and then it shouldn't add any newly typed numbers.[code]....
