May 5, 2009I want to add from vb.net a file into a clob column in oracle 9.6.1 (8 mb). When i add the file within a transaction then it goes much longer (10x longer) then when i add it whitout transaction. Why i have to wait so long with transaction object?
Here i have prepared an example code. the first code is without transaction and the second code with transaction. The first code is much faster then the second.
I have the problem only when i want to add the file in a clob column. When i want to add it in a blob column, then i don't have any problem.[code]...

Now for some reason the SQL server field(which is datetime) will not display AM/PM, I have referred this link where my code looks like this:

Insert NULL Into Database If Form Field Is Empty Using ASP.NET & VB?
Jan 18, 2011I have a form and stored procedure that inserts the data from the form. It works fine except that if a field isn't filled in it doesn't insert a NULL into SQL it inserts "".
I've tried a few different ways but none seem to insert NULL, the one below still inserts "", can anyone point me in the right direction?

So if I enter nothing into address1 field it should write NULL to screen but it always writes NOT NULL. What does an empty form field equal? in classic ASP it was always "".

Retrieving The Oracle TimeStamp Field In .Net?
May 28, 2009I need to begin working with milliseconds in .Net 3.0. The data will be returned from an Oracle Database and if I understand correctly Oracle can only store dates that use milliseconds as a TimeStamp. It does appears that the Date type in .Net can handle milliseconds but when I have tried to retrieve Timestamps from Oracle stored procedures in the past I ran into a nasty error. Can .Net handle the Oracle timestamp data type or do I need to bring it back as a VarChar and cast it to a date type?

I tried 3 different methods so far: Individual INSERT, insert using a dataset, & using INSERT ALL (commit every 25 records due to # of columns). It seemed like most articles/posts I read recommended the dataset approach, but the INSERT ALL code was definitely the fastest by far.

The value of strDateTime_Stamp is #1/19/2011 9:42:22 AM# I'm getting an error ( "ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting entire input string") because I don't know how to correctly assign the AM/PM tag on the end -- you'll notice it just says "MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm" in my code. I've tried a bunch of different things but nothing works. I also find it odd that if I change the "MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm" to "mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm" (little m for month) it gives me a 42 for the month value, not a 1. The capital M's fix that but I'm curious to know why.how to I get it to show the AMPM on the end?

Mar 26, 2010Trying to insert 315K Gif files into an Oracle 10g database. Everytime I get this error "ora-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested" whe I run the stored procedure. It appears that there is a 32K limit if I use a stored procedure. I read online that this does not apply if you are doing a direct insert, but I do not know how to create the insert string for a Byte Array. This is a thick client running on the server so not worried about SQL Injection attacks.

VS 2008 Add New Row In Database / Get -1 For ID Field
Aug 4, 2009The table has an AppID column which just increments 1 every time a new appointment is added. That works fine. It also has an ID column that gets a unique doctor ID assigned to it so the program knows which doctor has which patient.Now, when I try to add a new row, no matter what I try, the ID field gets a -1. I've tried assigning it the doctor's ID that I'm currently browsing as well as hard coding it to be a "3" and it still shows as -1. So this means that while it does save and update the new row, it adds that -1 in the ID column and thus the program can't tell which doctor has it so it won't show in my program.[code]I'm only trying to get the ID column populated, the rest should be fine as they're all from textboxes.
