Bulk Insert From Datatable In To Oracle Using Oracle.DataAccess
Mar 4, 2010
I am reading a csv file in to a datatable in vb.net and making a few checks and appending an extra column. I then want to perform a bulk insert using microsofts Oracle.DataAccess (no choice in this) to an Oracle database. what would be the best way to perform this as there is no bulkImport like in SQLserver.

I am having a strange problem since installing the latest version of ODAC, 11.2.0.2.1. I installed both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions because I develop applications for both architectures. My computer is Win 7 64-bit.
Since installing ODAC and referencing the new 64-bit version of ODP.NET, one of my web application projects in Visual Studio 2010 gives the following warning for all aspx pages and masterpages when I view them in Markup View.
ASP.NET runtime error: Could not load file or assembly 'Oracle.DataAccess' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format.
The warning is limited to Markup View. The web application builds and runs fine. I tried cleaning the VS Temporary ASP.NET Files, but that did not fix the issue. I removed all references to Oracle.DataAccess throughout my application, and then readded them to be sure that all the references were correct. The web app is compiled to 'Any CPU' but it uses the 64-bit Oracle.DataAccess. I created a new project, and referenced the same projects and dlls, and I do not get the warning, so it appears to be specific to this project file.

Is there a way to transfer huge amount of data in a single shot from vb.net to Oracle database? I have a couple of thousands of records in my vb.net code which I want to update to Oracle database. What I do currently is, call a stored procedure in database once for each of those records. This would end up calling the stored proc couple of thousand times, which is highly inefficient.

I am inserting a block of 5000 records at a time, one block right after the other. The commands are created in a seperate DLL and can call anyone of 4 different stored procedures. Is there a bulk insert method that might speed this up. Currrently it takes about 1.5 MS per record and would like to get this down to about .7 MS.

Relatively new to VB.NET coding. Am creating a pretty simple console application that needs to insert over 50,000 records into an Oracle table (OleDB connection). I tried 3 different methods so far: Individual INSERT, insert using a dataset, & using INSERT ALL (commit every 25 records due to # of columns). It seemed like most articles/posts I read recommended the dataset approach, but the INSERT ALL code was definitely the fastest by far.

In my code I have an Oracle command that contains an INSERT statement. Here's a snippet from my SQL:
"'," & "To_Date('" & Format$(dtDateTime_Stamp, "MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm") & _
The value of strDateTime_Stamp is #1/19/2011 9:42:22 AM# I'm getting an error ( "ORA-01830: date format picture ends before converting entire input string") because I don't know how to correctly assign the AM/PM tag on the end -- you'll notice it just says "MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm" in my code. I've tried a bunch of different things but nothing works. I also find it odd that if I change the "MM/dd/yyyy hh:mm" to "mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm" (little m for month) it gives me a 42 for the month value, not a 1. The capital M's fix that but I'm curious to know why.how to I get it to show the AMPM on the end?

I have the following insert into statement. What I want to do is insert the values to gprdsql.TblOracleNos if TxtOracleNo is not empty, therefore if a user logs on and fill the textbox the values are saved to the table. However, if the oracle number exists in gprdsql.TblOracleNos (i.e, the values ) it should not insert the values, presently it creates the same record again with same values (when the save button is clicked) and this creates duplication. Instead probably bring a pop up message "Oracle number already exists. [Code]

Trying to insert 315K Gif files into an Oracle 10g database. Everytime I get this error "ora-01460: unimplemented or unreasonable conversion requested" whe I run the stored procedure. It appears that there is a 32K limit if I use a stored procedure. I read online that this does not apply if you are doing a direct insert, but I do not know how to create the insert string for a Byte Array. This is a thick client running on the server so not worried about SQL Injection attacks.

Currently we are using the Microsoft data access library Writen with a Oracle data provider for the framework 1.1. My customer has mandated that we upgrade from Oracle 10G to 11G release 2. 11G requires the .net framework 2.0 Is there a way to use the new Oracle data provider 11g release 2 with the older frame work. I have looked at/attempted changing the policy for oracle in the Windows assembly but my understanding is because its a third party DLL, I cannot.

i noticed in vb.net that when declaring new connection objects it creates a new session. and sometimes it reuses an existing one.is this an expected behavior?
in my application i created a global temporary table. in oracle, this acts like a table but session based. the behavior mentioned above is causing some issues with my temporary table as new sessions are being created and thus, i'm not able to get the desired data from the table.i thought of using a global connection but not sure if this is the best way.

I am seeing a strange intermittent connection failure. My application works just fine and then starts throwing connection failure exceptions. A reset of IIS is required before the app will start working again.I've been able to trace a few of the failures back to an unexpected restart of the oracle cluster but not all of them. Has anyone else seen this problem? I've searched the web but haven't found anything.

I have a few Oracle procedures that generate/return a large amount of data that I need to write out to a file.I'm currently trying to accomplish with a data-reader. It seems to be working, I've successfully generated a 479mb file without any trouble. It took less than 4 minutes from the time I retrieved the dataReader to complete the file. But the dataReader I get for a particular procedure is crawling. It's unbelievably slow.I modified my code to try and get a better idea of what is going on[code]I'm writing a PL/SQL block that will open that cursor to see if the performance issue exists when I remove the .Net code..
