Feb 23, 2010
(VB.NET 2008 )How can I make taskbar's group menu item to be disabled? For some reson ,I have to make taskbar's group menu item to be disabled.(ex. close group item)
How do I make a menu item on a menu strip link to another windows form (like a menu item that links to an about page already created in the project). I know that every coder knows how to do this, but i've read most of the instructions in the world for Visual Basic coding, but can't find ANYTHING I know coding fairly well, so I can modify it, but I can't create it my self.
Can I make a menu item to execute 3 tasks? For instance when I select a file from a ListBox and I press ToolStripMenuItem1, the program will move the selected file to a directory, execute archive.bat file and the move the archived file to another directory? I tried but I can make only one operation - to move the file.

I am trying to make a calculator program. I would like the display(text box) to have a white background, with black font. So I set the "enabled" property of the textbox to "false"(because I want it to display, not receive input) and then choose the background colour to be white. In the form designer, the text colour is black, which is what I want. But when I start debugging, the text becomes the colour of the form. How can I make the font black?

I have been working on an app that was basically a vb6 app but had to be changed and I did it all using VB 2008. works well, great. One of the problems that I had was to work on different groupboxes or frames. Since they are layered on top of each other, working on one frame would mess up the others. Eventually it all went okay. but now if i want to add another item in the menu and hence add another groupbox (or frame) in the same app - it would definitely be a nightmare.
When creating a menu, there is a large gap to the left of the entry. This is where the icons usually go. Is there a way to remove the space if you want a menu without icons?
how can i add an item to the windows explorer context menu, that will only be enabled when the user right clicks a .zip file? also, how do i handle that items click event?
i want to show context menu on drop down menu item right click...As an example,Suppose we add bookmark in mozilla & when we right click on that item..context menu is showing
Code: Private Sub MenuAddToFavorites_MouseDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles MenuAddToFavorites.MouseDown If e.Button = Windows.Forms.MouseButtons.Right Then
I have a submenu whose items should be selectively greyed out (Enabled=False), and I depend on the parent menu to be clicked. In VB6, from which I'm migrating, dwelling on the parent item with the cursor raised the Click() event, and the submenu items were enabled or disabled in the Click() routine.
In VS 2008 (and I assume probably in VS 2010), the submenu items are displayed as enabled and can be directly selected, bypassing the parent item, by the user even though some should be disabled. If, dispite the apparent availability of ungreyed items, the parent item is explicitly clicked, then the submenu items are correctly initialized. What change should I make to ensure Click() processing occurs before submenu display?
I've made a project with a menu. This menu is placed in a form which i use as a MDI Parent, and all the other forms are opend in this parent form.Everything works ok.
When I open a menu item (eg form A), the form display's correctly. But when I minimize the procject to the taskbar, and maximize it again, Form A shifted position a bit lower.
I've got a right-click menu that comes up in a treeview - with an option to ADD to that parent node or delete a child node.
Currently I'm using the SELECTEDNODE - but what I really want to do is change the "selected node" when the right-click occurs. But I'm having a hard time seeing how to do that...
How do you use this event properly??
Private Sub CapabilitiesTreeView_MouseClick(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.MouseEventArgs) Handles CapabilitiesTreeView.MouseClick Me.CapabilitiesTreeView.SelectedNode = End Sub
For some reason, the Add New Item command on the Project Menu is hanging VB on my Vista based machine.but now, it hangs. By that I mean the the little circle cursor spins and spins and spins... This happens even when all I do is start VB, start and new project. and then try to add something, eg. another form, a class, anything except "existing item".
How come when I make a group box "caption" text bold it also makes everything in the group box bold? How do I do this from the IDE - change just the font characteristics of the group box itself and not it's contents?
I have made an app and I want to add it to " open with menu" sub menu which appears when user make right click on any file ie I made photo viewer app and I want to add it to "open with menu" so user when make right click on any photo and go to "open with menu" sub menu will find my app name to chose it to open the photo with it
I have a list box on the form which functions as a copy/paste. When you copy something, it is automatically added to the list box as a "clipboard helper". Here is the problem, however: if the text is more than 1 line, the list box does not show all the text.It ends up looking messy. So getting back to my question, is it possible to make the list box item height for an item depending on the amount of lines that item contains? This is a one line sentence in the list box and should take up one line. This is a multi line sentence in the list box and should take up two lines for item height.
es anyone know the Hex value of the Size Menu Item? If you don't know what I mean (I wouldn't ), please take a look at this.I want to use its method to remove the Size menu item instead of just the move and close items. Now, I know what your going to say, but, I have to have the Sizable Border Style.
I want my textbox to not be editable by the user, but I want it to have forecolor..When I do "Disabled = False" it does become un-editable but the forecolor turns to gray.. How to fix this?
I see many programs using a menu strip similar to the folowing: My grey menu style just looks ugly... I guess I should not use the image as background, because XP has other style menustrips, so it must be some sort of menu strip. How can I make a menustrip with that style?
I am trying to develop a recipe manager that allows a user to create a shopping list. I've already determined that I want to use a list view for this job. I want to be able to group the items in the shopping list by the appropriate grocery aisle (i.e. Dairy, Bread, Canned Goods, etc.) I'm not sure how to assign the items to the appropriate group as the user selects each item.
I haven't started actually building the application yet as i'm still in the development stage, but i have been testing the list view out to figure out how it works. i've figured out how to add items. i just don't know how to specify the group that each item should belong to.
I would like to know how to make a button click only so many times until it becomes disabled.
I would also like to know how to keep what is put in a RichTextBox there, without erasing the other text;
Example: Two buttons, the first puts "1" into the RTB, and the second puts "2" into the RTB. However when I press the second button, it over writes the first value.
How can I prevent this?
You Can Ignore this question below;
Old Question: I am working on a counter, and want to know how to make a button show itself if I hid it.
I have:
CODE:
And would like to know how to make one of the buttons visible again, with one big button.
I know it has something to do with an "If" statement.
I have a form. On its load event, i have a txtName.focus , this is a text box inside a group box on the form. However when the form loads it does not focus the cursor in to this text box.I tried using the groupbox1.focus but that didn't work either.
I habe a little problem with my code. After 4 years, I must now expand and adapt an old program with new features for Windows 7.I use the great snippet from Chris to query the members of a active directory group. Now I want to use a selected item from the Listbox for a further search, but it doesn't work. I check the selction with a Textbox, but I get an error message:"Invalid Conversion from DirectoryEntry to String".[code]Until now I was able to read the selected items from the listbox in a Textbox or a query.
VB express 2008 .net 3.5 or .net 4.0 VB express 2010?I have written application to convert RTF to HTML. The main Purpose of the application is to copy VS code to the clipboard and covert it then put it back into the clipboard as a HTML Document so that it can be pasted into a HTML document such as Windows Live Mail. I found that code copied and pasted is spaced out in in the wrong positions.
The applications works perfect with no bugs so far. I then asked Myself how to go about doing the copy with the least amount of operator interaction. So I added an Icon to the Icon Tray with a right click menu to use to convert once the Rich Text Format was copied to the clipboard. This works fine except you have Five steps, Select the text, Copy to clipboard, Right Click the icon, Select the Converter and Paste. The normal is three steps.
To this the best solution is to add a context menu item to the active form such as the RTF editor or window. So that when you select the Rich Text to copy and right click on the form to bring up that menu then to Just Select the menu Item such as "Copy RT and Convert" I searched and found about 544000 Items and tried to restrict down to no avail. I read until I finally gave up. I did not find any code examples of this. Almost every thing I found related to the web or some other explicit document like Excel and not to the Various windows that could be active with RT in it.
how do you add a context menu item to the context menu of an active rich text format window such as WordPad or VB?I have test in my application that tests to see if it is a RTF in the clipboard so if it is not the converter does nothing.
