ASP.NET UpdatePanel Lock All TextBox Controls After Post-back?

Nov 2, 2010

My code behind is VB.NET. I use ASP.NET UpdatePanel like the following. However, after the post-back, it locks TextBox controls , I cannot type anything, except when I move the mouse over and click on the TextBox.

why it locked all TextBox controls after the post-back?

Here's why I use UpdatePanel:

During the post-back, after inserting data into DB, set all TextBox text property to String.Empty After the form is submitted, the Panel pStudent should be refresh , not the entire page and the TextBox txtId should be in focus again.

here's the mark-up of the ASP.NET page: [URL]

Asp.net Mvc - Post IDictionary Back To MVC Model

Dec 18, 2009

To make this easier I will use a concrete example using movies and genres. A genre can be associated with many movies. Genres can increase over time and so can movies.

The use case is as follows. The user wants to filter movies by selecting his/her desired genres.

So, I have a page where at the top there is a section where the user can pick any combination of genres to filter on using checkboxes. Below that is a list of movies that are in those genres.

In MVC I am trying to implement this using a ViewPage(of IDictionary(of Genre, Boolean)) where the boolean is whether or not a particular Genre has been selected for filtering.

I then go into loop that creates checkboxes for them to select:

<% for each genre As KeyValuePair(Of Genre, Boolean) in Model %>
<%=Html.Hidden("genre[" & i & "].Key", genre.Key.ID)%>
<%=Html.CheckBox("genre[" & i & "].Value", genre.Value)%>

[Code].....

I am aware this can be done using Ajax and I will most likely do it using Ajax but I would still like to know why this doesn't work.

Get A Row Count And Post That Back To The Grid

Oct 1, 2009

Ok, so I have a small program I am building for my boss to keep track of workers at certain job sites. With the way the economy is going my boss wants to track who is showing up at specific sites (jobs) and try to even it out among all the employees - some are not working full time.

Anyway, I have two Access tables linked together with the main table being Employee Data. The second Table is Employee Jobs. Basically I have three forms. The main form on startup will show all of the employees in the company - this is basically a list of all added employees into the database (this is the second form - adding employee info). At a quick glance I would like to have the initial startup form, with grid - show employee info, show the number of jobs each employee has been assigned to. Would this be an SQL statement? How to I get a row count and post that back to the grid so it shows up on startup?

Asp.net - Update Parent UpdatePanel From Child UpdatePanel - Conditionally

Aug 17, 2010

I am trying to trying to setup an updatepanel to update every X seconds, the problem is I don't want the control to actually refresh unless there is new data. So I currently have a child updatepanel in a parent UpdatePanel, the child updatepanel gets refreshed by a timer. But I can't seem to find a way to trigger the parent panel to update. Again, only when certain conditions(data changed) are met.

Sample Code:

<asp:Timer ID="Timer1" OnTick="Timer1_Tick" runat="server" Interval="10000"></asp:Timer>
<asp:updatepanel id="upParent" runat="server" UpdateMode="Conditional">

Checkboxes Doesn't Post Back - Checkbox On GridView Always Returning False

Jan 22, 2012

I have a GridView with a Checkbox on the first column: Code: The thing is that the Checkbox.Checked always returns False. How can I get the checked state of the Checkboxes in this scenario? Or what would be the best approach into updating the aforementioned column? P.S. Note that click on the checkboxes doesn't post back. Nothing happens on the page until the user clicks Save (and that is the intended behavior).

.net - ASP.NET: OnChange On Dynamically Created Textbox Inside UpdatePanel Fires Twice

Dec 15, 2011

I'm creating a number of textboxes, all calling a function during the onchange event to update their value to the database. These boxes are dynamically created in the backend because the data changes based on specific criteria that can be changed on the page. Here's the creation of the boxes:

Dim t as TableRow
tC = New TableCell
Dim txtBox As New TextBox

[Code]....

When I enter a number into the Textbox, the event fires as expected, but it fires twice.

Asp.net - Some User Controls Not Loading When The 'Back' Button Is Pressed?

Dec 14, 2011

I'm working with ASP.NET and VB.NET. I have a page which contains 5 user controls. the page itself does nothing, it just presents the user controls to the user.

The user controls work fine when I come on the page, or when I refresh, but when I go to another page, and press 'Back' only two of my user controls shows up, and they don't work like they're supposed to!

Short description of the controls:

2 controls which look if the user has to create something and shows an option to do so. (goes to the DB)
2 controls show an overview if needed (goes to the DB)1 control looks if the user is an admin (does not go to the DB, but looks in the securityContext)

Manage A Large Number Of Similar Controls In A User Interface (such As Button Or TextBox Controls)

Aug 23, 2011

There is newer code in a follow up post. I suggest using the code in the later post rather than the code in this one. You can still read this post though. When designing a user interface, one should be conscious of how many individual controls are required to implement the functionality. In some cases an initial design may begin with many buttons or textboxes (for example) but then further review of
the actual required functionality allows for a reduction in the number of unique controls.

But other times, there isn't a better way (which will still make sense to the user of the application) then to have a series of many repeated controls. So in the cases where one can be certain that the best UI implementation for an application will require the use of multiple copies of a given control, then it often becomes necessary to maintain some method of managing all of those controls at various points
throughout the application. Doing so typically requires that one build up some collection of controls which can then be accessed by index in order to work with any given control; but this can lead to a lot of clutter in the code file which handles these control's events. For instance there will be some kind of collection declaration, some recursive routine to find all of the controls of interest, and then any number of event handler methods with long lists of Handles clauses, or additional code loops to wire up the event handling for each control.

Purpose Since most of this functionality could be considered a requirement regardless of the type of control being managed, or its required functionality, it may make sense to wrap all of the control management functionality into a single class. And since our first requirement is a collection of controls, then a base collection class could be the perfect starting point for our control manager. There are a number of existing thread around this topic, with some recent (at the time of this writing) ones being:[URL]..In this, and related, threads I have posted examples of a simple TextBoxManager and ButtonManager control. But again, with so much similar functionality required regardless of the control being managed, it would be technically possible to create a generic ControlManager(Of T As Control) class which can manage any type of control.

[Code]...

So in summary, one can facilitate managing a large number of user interface controls by building a "control manager" class which both encapsulates the list of control instances, and deals with adding and removing defined event handlers for every control it manages. The generic control manager class itself can be inherited and extended into a more specific class on a per-application basis in order to provide more application-specific functionality. Setting A 'default' Value To Controls (textbox) (loop Controls)?

Nov 11, 2009

I have aspx form with several textboxes. They are populated with values from a table via retrieval of a dataview. If the row count for the dataview is 0, then I'd like to reset the values in all textboxes. How can I loop through all the textboxes and set a default value?I've tried the following, but no sucess.

For Each ctrl As Control In Page.Form.Controls
If TypeOf ctrl Is WebControls.TextBox Then
CType(ctrl, WebControls.TextBox).Text = ""
End If
Next

My first For Loop was using Page.Controls but it returned only 1 count. The textboxes are inside a tabpanel (ajax), so do I have to locate the tabpage and then find all it's controls (for each tabpage)?
