View 1 RepliesI have an EggSac object which contains references to >100 000 Egg objects. Some variables in the Eggs have to be maintained to be consistent with EggSac, so I want to make these only changeable by EggSac. However EggSac passes references to its Eggs all over the application, so if I use public methods then any other code could modify the secure parts of the Eggs by accident.
What's a proper OO way to make sure only the EggSac object can call the "secure" methods of the Eggs, but still make the "safe" methods available to everyone?
My idea is to split Egg's class into a base class containing only safe methods and a derived class containing the secure methods that only EggSac should have access to. Then EggSac has members of the type of the derived class, but it casts them to their base class whenever something else wants one.
I have a 3rd party object that gets passed to one of my methods. The object contains 20 or so string members. How can I easily list all of the string names and their values?
View 2 RepliesI'm going to do my best to describe what I'm trying to do. I have a class that has an enum in it.[code]...
View 2 Repliesok this is annoying, i've got a structure RInteger.
Private VAR_Value As Integer
Private VAR_Max As Integer
Private VAR_Min As Integer

I'm writing a WCF-Service and I split up my service class to multiple partial class files, so every ServiceContract-Implementation gets its own file. I have one file however that should contain e.g. members that are used by every partial class file such as a logger. The service is hosted with IIS 7 if this matters in any way.

The code compiles fine, but at runtime I get an BC30451: The name m_Log is not declared Error (Don't know the exact words for it. I get a german message ;) ). I don't think it has something to do with the type of m_Log or a depending assembly because I get the same error if i try this with a String. What am I doing wrong? How can I make this work? Edit: I was trying the same thing in a simple console application without any problems. :(
This might seem like a silly question, even for a newbie but I can't access the members of a class from a user control. I am developing a shopping cart application in vb 2008. inside the app_data folder i have a folder name BusinessObjects which contains a class called Catalog. This is the code for this class:

I'm using VS 2010 Professional built-in test cases. I've got a class that has a read-only property that looks something like this:
Private _server As IServer = Nothing
Public ReadOnly Property Server()
Get[code]......
In my test cases I want to make a fake server implementation so I can test some of the class methods without actually hitting the server. I've looked around and have seen the InternalsVisibleTo attribute, but that seems to only allow access to Friend-level members. Is there any simple way to get access to these members, aside from declaring them Public/Friend?
I have an enumeration in the form[code]...
I would like to use these as values in a ComboBox, but I would like to display the strings "My Stuff" and "My Things" respectively.
I'm sure I've seen a method for quickly creating some kind of local object definition where I can assign a string property to be displayed, and a "MyCollections" type property to store the value of the enum element, but I can't for the life of me think of how to explain that to a search engine.
I can access a module from code behind but not from the aspx page in inline VB code <% ... %>.
View 2 RepliesSay I have a List(Of Tag) with Tag being an object. One member of Tag, Tag.Description, is a string, and I want to make a comma-separated concatenation of the Description members. Is there an easier way to do this than to read the Description members into a List(Of String) and then use the Join function?

Problem:
A parent class has a sub class with various properties. A property of the parent class is a List(of T) with T = the sub class The issue is how to store data in the sub class of the instantiated parent
Some example code (hopefully formatted correctly):
Code:

Public Class courseClass
Public Class timeTableClass

I have a multi-project .NET 3.5 solution. It's ASP.NET based with c# code-behind in all projects except one.I'm attempting to access members from a C# project called "Core" from a VB.NET project. I set a dependency to the Core solution in my solution properties. However, Core. brings up nothing. Furthermore, my other C# projects that have Core-Project as a dependency (in the solution settings), are able to declare Core objects. Example: Private Core.ObjectName InstanceName; Also, Intellisense brings up plenty of info in the C# projects.how I can hook into these members from my VB project?

View 2 RepliesI have a solution with several Projects in it. There is a Windows App project (called ImportClient), and a Class Library (Import.Library). The Import.Library has functions to perform data imports (I have other applications in the solution that also need to call it). But the interactive application, I want to be able to pass in some form controls, and have it update the GUI. No problem. But, I also want to execute a DoEvents() so that the loop execution doesn't hang other interaction to the app.
So, ImportClient has a reference to Import.Library. But I can't add a reference to ImportClient to the Import.Library, because the compiler complains about circular reference, etc. I don't know how else to define the My.Application object of ImportClient as a parameter to the data function in ImportLibrary.
(I realize this is a dumb question - problem is, for this project I have a tight timeline, and haven't learned how to do the BackgroundWorker process. If you think I could pick it up quickly, I'm open to some hints about how to update the progress bar on the GUI, and how to pause / cancel the background task.)

View 6 RepliesIf I created a new instance of an object, is it possible to call that object's functions without knowing the name of that object that I initialized it to? Perhaps there is another way to access this object without using the name? Also, is it possible to create a property in a class which allows you to use that property to access an object of that class? For example, a textbox control has a (Name) property which allows you to use that name to access the textbox but that might be a special case because it is a textbox.

I have a windows form in .NET that will serve as a wizard to achieve something. This contains 3 steps: Step1, Step2, Step3.
Each step is again actually a user control. Main form contains a panel that display the current Step. When I change among steps then:
1) Dispose the current user control by calling its Dispose() method.
2) Clears the main form panel
3) Initialize the user control of next step and add it into the main panel
Now, the issue is, User control of step one contains one more user control. When I change to another step and come back to step 1, I get following error:
"Cannot access disposed object."
Because I have to first dispose the user control before actually displaying the another step. And when I come back to step 1 and tries to open the user control on step 1, it gives the aforementioned error.
I created an Access Object in vb.net:Dim acApp As Object = CreateObject("Access.Application.11")en I open Access I need to pass a parameter to it though "/cmd".I read that the only way to accomplish this is through a shell - that it is not possible directly using an Access object.
