Access A Object From A Different Form?

View 4 RepliesI have a solution with several Projects in it. There is a Windows App project (called ImportClient), and a Class Library (Import.Library). The Import.Library has functions to perform data imports (I have other applications in the solution that also need to call it). But the interactive application, I want to be able to pass in some form controls, and have it update the GUI. No problem. But, I also want to execute a DoEvents() so that the loop execution doesn't hang other interaction to the app.
So, ImportClient has a reference to Import.Library. But I can't add a reference to ImportClient to the Import.Library, because the compiler complains about circular reference, etc. I don't know how else to define the My.Application object of ImportClient as a parameter to the data function in ImportLibrary.
(I realize this is a dumb question - problem is, for this project I have a tight timeline, and haven't learned how to do the BackgroundWorker process. If you think I could pick it up quickly, I'm open to some hints about how to update the progress bar on the GUI, and how to pause / cancel the background task.)
By default my app loads the activation form. On the form load it checks if the license is valid and if so i want it to close/hide the registration form and open the form that starts my app.
When i try to do this it crashes my app with the following error
Quote:
Cannot access a disposed object
Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
'check if a valid license is available

I want a string and a listbox, both which are in a form to be modified by an instance of a class method. Should (could I):
1. Pass the entire form to the class method as parameter.
2. Pass the listbox and the string to the method as parameters.
What's the best approach to get access and modify this string and listbox on the form.
When try to open in design mode a form (VB.NET), in which I have a custom UserControl, I see the message from Visual Studio:
Microsoft Visual Studio
The control MyNamespace.MyUserControl has thrown an unhandled exception in the designer and has been disabled.
Exception:
Cannot access a disposed object.
Object name: 'SplitterPanel'.
Stack trace:
OK
And the form is not displayed in designer. What to do?
I am trying to write a program that takes the input of a CSV file, makes modifications, and prompts the user on how to handle certain modifications.
I have the parsing of the CSV file complete, the handling of most of the string manipulation down, and the user interface complete, except when it comes time to move onto the next record.
I had it display the form as a modal dialog, and used me.hide() once it was over to continue with the program. However, when it gets to the next ShowDialog(), it says that the object has been disposed! I've tried a modeless dialog, with a while loop that waits for a boolean to be flipped by a button on the dialog being clicked, but that, as predicted, did not turn out so well and just shot the processor load to 100%.
One thing I notice in looking around is that I have everything based on the "home" form, the initial one that comes up when the program is run. Is this incorrect coding? Does this require the prompt being on a child form?
Occasionally I encountered this exception message while trying to download file from a server using System.Net.FtpWebRequest and System.Net.FtpWebResponse Object.

View 3 Repliesquite new to database queries through VB. I have just created a DB using MS Access and I need to write data to it from my VB Application.Can anyone point me on which objects should I use to execute these write transactions?
View 6 RepliesIf I created a new instance of an object, is it possible to call that object's functions without knowing the name of that object that I initialized it to? Perhaps there is another way to access this object without using the name?Also, is it possible to create a property in a class which allows you to use that property to access an object of that class?For example, a textbox control has a (Name) property which allows you to use that name to access the textbox but that might be a special case because it is a textbox.
View 1 RepliesI'm having this problem with my code and cannot seem to get past it although it was working fine before. The error is "An error occurred creating the form. See Exception.InnerException for details. The error is: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." The code is:
CODE:
I am trying to get information to be pulled out of a database and show in text boxes on another form (frmviewsdets). The error occurs when it gets to the line frmviewsdets.txtsnumber.Text = rdr("StudentNumber") and even when a breakpoint is applied there it just moves on to the next and so on.
I have tried to show frmviewsdets before I pull the data out of the database beut I get the same message.
I've got 3 forms that have exactly the same functions, so I decided to create an interface.
public Interface IExample
public sub Add()
Public sub Edit()
[code]....
At this point, objfrmExample is now instantiated, even though I've not done a "objfrmExpample = new [what-goes-here?] " and I'm curious as to why.I could possibly guess that because you cannot instantiate an interface variable, then vb.net automatically creates an instance. But thats just a guess. The question is , what is meant by declaring a variable of type Interface, and how does it work?
I am getting this error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" and I dont know where/how to fix it and it does not tell me where the error in the code occurs, just a pop-up windows saying the error. Here is the code on the "start up" Windows form..

Dim BIT01 As Integer = BIT_01.Text
Dim Value As Integer = TB_OutPut.Text

My problem is when i try to call Application.Run() in a application without a form i get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i run it outside VS. but if ran in debug or release mode it works just fine. i may just be forgetting to setup application right, but ive done it before in this same manor and it worked fine.
Sub main() 'this runs first.
AddHandler Application.ApplicationExit, AddressOf ExitEventHandler
dbg_f("handle added")

Commented out init_timer and init_ready, and now it causes the same error for the myName line. there seems to be something wrong with class Application. btw theres seems to be something wrong with the forum code formatting.
If you want a instance of an object to be created when a form loads or another class is created, you have two options:
Public class example
private IAmAObject As IAmAObject
public sub new()
[CODE]...
Or like this:
public class example
private IAmAObject as new IAmAObject
public sub new()
[CODE]...
I always use the first one. It's more type work but I think it's neater. How about you people and is there any real difference between the two?
I'm writing an asp.net page with a simple registration form that connects to my access database and inserts the values in the table. Hi
I've got a pretty general question about the best practice in passing an object reference to a Form in VB.NET. My form is a dialog and I've created an overload ShowDialog method, where I pass an Object into it ByRef.
The trouble is, I want to be able to refer to that Object throughout my dialog Class and not just in the ShowDialog method. For instance, some of my Events for controls on the form, need to reference that object.
I know I could create a local Private variable in the Class and assign it to the passed value, and then use that value. However I'm thinking this isn't very efficient because it would (I believe) create a new copy of the Object (which is a complex, large class in itself).
I'm trying to insert data from an Access unbounds form to an Access Table using the follwoing code:

I found an error - cannot access a disposed object in my project.

I have a windows form in .NET that will serve as a wizard to achieve something. This contains 3 steps: Step1, Step2, Step3.
Each step is again actually a user control. Main form contains a panel that display the current Step. When I change among steps then:
1) Dispose the current user control by calling its Dispose() method.
2) Clears the main form panel
3) Initialize the user control of next step and add it into the main panel
Now, the issue is, User control of step one contains one more user control. When I change to another step and come back to step 1, I get following error:
"Cannot access disposed object."
Because I have to first dispose the user control before actually displaying the another step. And when I come back to step 1 and tries to open the user control on step 1, it gives the aforementioned error.
I created an Access Object in vb.net:Dim acApp As Object = CreateObject("Access.Application.11")en I open Access I need to pass a parameter to it though "/cmd".I read that the only way to accomplish this is through a shell - that it is not possible directly using an Access object.
