I have a PlayStation USB controller and want to discover how to test the buttons and controls on the device from vb.net. Is there documentation anywhere on how to get info from a usb controller? I'm not even sure which department or category this falls
View 5 RepliesI'm using a repeater ListOfArticles and have controls inside it like ddlSizes and btnSelectArticle. Normally you can just double click the control and in the aspx.vb page you can specify an action. I have heard something about Findcontrol, but can't figure out or find much information that I understand. I don't want to sound like an ass, but I would really prefer help for the aspx.vb page and not in C# or Javascript.
An example of what I'm trying to do is, once you've clicked btnSelectArticle the label lblSelection receives the following values Amount: txtAmount - Size: ddlSizes.SelectedValue.

I have an application with 4 threads. (GUI, Controller, Producer, Consumer) The GUI is self-explanatory. The controller starts the producer and consumer threads after some intial setup. The producer creates items and places them in a free slot in a "ring buffer". The consumer takes items from the "ring buffer" and writes them to disk. The producer creates items at a much higher rate than the consumer. The consumer is IO heavy and IO bound. Currently I am checking a variable in each ring buffer slot to determine if it can be written to.

I am not using lock/synclock instead I'm just reading / writing the value of the slot's "free" variable. I don't believe that is correct even though it is a volatile read/write. Is there a better method to read/write this variable? The variable is of type "integer" and is either 0 or 1.
My VB application is behaving strangley. I have form with fairly large number of controls. I am using case against radio buttons. after curtain number of buttons, it stops responding to more radio buttons.
Then I tried to split controls in to 2 form but now my form.showdialog() too now working properly. It takes new from names but show the old form when running.
As i'm learning more and more about developing ive just got my head around creating classes and modules, i started wondering about something to do with configuration of applications where deployment is in a more diverse environment say in a company where different branches dont need access to all parts of a program, so i thought id throw the question out there in a basic sense and get some feedback. so i can go off and do some more reading and learning.
So the scenario in my head is like this.
So we have for arguments sake FrmConfig which is the master configuration form, then we have FrmMain which is the root menu our application general user interfaces with. So here based on what options are checked as enabled in FrmConfig effects what controls (like buttons/menu options) are enabled in FrmMain.
I've been building controls for many years professionally and personally, but even back in VB6 days I just could not work this out. I am building a program that does inventory control. I have multiple forms connected to same database. One of the forms I have a search function. When I was using the controls at the top of the page, it was working. I added buttons for the controls and now the database wont store anything. I can open the input form and I can add multiple inputs, close the form, open it back up, and nothing left in the database. I have also noticed that my database icon in the data source has a small red X in it. When I click on the icon, it is showing the db as closed. I can refresh it and it opens, until I run the program and it closes.

View 3 RepliesI have a piece of software with two tabs, inside each tab there are buttons (the user can add the buttons when they want). when tab1 is full tab2 should start to fill. I currently know how many buttons fit on the screen so I just say something like if buttons > 150 then start to populate tab 2 The problem i have now though is if the resolution is changed then a different amount of buttons can be displayed. so if I put my screen to 1280x720 some buttons are left of. I was thinking of detecting the resolution and then using different cases for different resolutions but this seems very inefficient im wondering if there is a different way?

View 2 RepliesWhen a user is editing a given piece of data, they're allowed to add messages/comments. These are stored as child records in a SQL database. Clicking on the Add Message button brings up a panel (pnlMessage) courtesy of the AJAX ModalPopup Extender. This takes some input and, when the "Send Message" button in the panel is clicked (I learned the hard way to NOT make that the 'OkButton' property), the message is stored in the database and an email is sent to the intended recipients. No problem there.
However, I need to be able to allow the user to add new email addresses (so long as they are registered in our database). I have another ModalPopup / panel combo (pnlSearch) that's tied to a button on the previous panel (pnlMessage).
The user is supposed to be able to add an email or click on a search button to populate a list to choose from.
The pop-up panel (pnlSearch) comes up just fine, but clicking the "Lookup" button (which instigates the search and returns a collection of records that the user is supposed to pick from) closes the panel.
Previously, I ran into the problem of having the Button.Click event never firing when I put the Button into the "OkControlID" property (the CancelControlID works fine since I don't want to do anything). Removing the "OkControlID=Button" line allowed it to work perfectly with the Button.Click event firing as expected.
So now I have the Search panel with a button for "OK" and a button for "Search" - but the panel should stay up and visible after the Search.Click does it's thing. Am I missing some property that basically says "don't close the panel when this button is clicked"? Of course, if I bring up the panel again in the same session, the results from the previous effort are there (the search results).

I have a database, added in data sources. I can manage records with automatically generated database toolbar.I want buttons for Add, Replace, Erase data from Database. So far i've seen some Tutorials but they are most likely for VB6 and also i'm really new on VB at all.

Ive been in a re-factoring mood lately, so I was wondering what the best way to access the properties of another open form would be(The reporting viewer opens in a new form.) So far I have:

I am working with VS2005 using VB.net I have two project (Project A, Project B), project A is the startup project with form1, while project B is dependent on project A, both under the same solution. I have established the project dependencies so that Project B is now Dependent on Project A. Also i added references to both projects to each other so that i can access controls on Project B forms through Project A (Like changing the value of a textbox on B through A). I have a blackbox (with a crude ftp server on it) which has an IP address, a file on it, a username and a password. I have a PC logged on to the local network and I want to write a VB.net program that sits on the PC and when the file is created it downloads that file. from the laptop I can type ftp:192.168.43.34 in to windows explorer and see the file without having to type in a username or password (username is set to Anonymous)I require a simple program that just points to the file (ftp:192.168.23.12/banjo.txt) and grabs it to a local path (C:\banjo.txt)I have looked everywhere and not found anything that works and not interested in paying $500 for a library.

I am having some problems adding controls at runtime, or I guess I should say accessing the controls after adding them.The application starts off with a tab control named "tabIncidents" and one tab for an incident information. The user can click on a button to add a client. When the button is pressed a second tab is added to "tabIncidents" named "Clients." On the newly created "Clients" tab another tabcontrol is added named "tabClients" and we create a tab named "Client". Multiple "Client" tabs can be created on this tabcontrol. Each "Client" tab gets a usercontrol added named "clientInformation" which has name and address textboxes.

View 8 RepliesI have a couple user controls that are loaded by a Select Case statement. However, in the behind code file for the main page that loads these controls, none of the asp controls show up in intellisense. I had a feeling it's because the controls are loaded conditionally. My question is what is the best way to solve this?
1) Load the controls and do a Select Case in the behind code to make them hidden or not.
2) Is there a way to say (psuedocode): LoadUserControl("UserControl1").Controls("tbTest").Text = ""
3) How can I pass a dataset to the User Control file?

Create a web browser with tabs and I want to add a "Open in a new Link" Button with a Custom Menu .
