Accessing Access Data Tables With VB 2010 Express

I have written lots of code with the ADO Library in VB Excel and previous versions of Visual Basic. With the dissappearance of the recordset object, how do we perform data manipulation with an attached Access Database? It seems things could be a lot easier, and less complicated by now, however, the best methods appear to currently remain ellusive.

My problem is that I have a program which needs to access images for multiple choice questions, hundreds of them. Now when I publish the program it is not taking the images with it. I have read some information by 'kleinma' regarding publishing and he says to right click on the Bin and click include in project, but when I do this there is no command in the menu for this.
I have included all of my image files in the Bin and have also added them using the resource editor, but to no avail As I have indicated it is the Express edition, could this make a difference

I am trying to follow this userguide url... to basically build an application that will allow users to connect to my database, from an exe file. I'll try to explain as best i can. The plan is, users will launch an exe file that i have built in Visual Basic(VB) 2010 Express. When they launch the application they will see a 'login screen'.I am following the example guide (see link above), and will customise it once i can connect to the database. For some reason whenever i connect to the database it gives me two errors, the first is if i use the 'debug' mode in VB to test the script (note it doesn't produce any build errors), the second is if i build the application and run it as my users would.
1)Error Connecting to Database:Access denied for user 'mike'@'92.**.**.***' (using password:YES)
2)Error Connecting to Database:Unable to access any of the specified MySQL hosts..The ip address starred out (*) is my local machine ip address.The server is the server in which my Database runs on. 'mike' is a listed user on my 'user' table, the password i use is the password assigned to this user on my table.
3)I've rebuilt the whole VB project, but still no joy, wern't expecting it to as there were no errors generated.
4) I've read, but don't really understand that it could be something to do with my database not being able to be controlled remotely, only locally. I started digging into 'Access Your MySQL Server Remotely Over SSH', didn't really know if i was going completely off the mark, it didn't mention needing to do any of this in the guide i've been following, but just a thought. It might be the case as i've tried to access my database through a programme called MySQL Administrator. I punch in the host,username etc and connect to my database, for some reason it won't allow me to add new users, could this be because i can't control my database remotely? Would this stop what i'm trying to do working?
5) When trying to install the MySQL.Data.dll file i had great difficulty in choosing one and finding it, adding it to my project using the 'Add reference' in VB. Finnally got it how it should be (i think), installed MySQL.Data.dll Ver 6.1.2.0 into my project.

I am an old VB2 programmer and in the process of moving up. In VB2 I could obtain a data row via and index on an access table. I can not find an example on how to do this. I can retrieve a single row using a query, but an index would be faster. I know in Oracle use can use a hirt to direct the query to use the index.Here is what I was during in VB2 (Sample) with no hint.
Set Stock_Tbl = "DataBaseName".openTable(Stock_Tbl_Name)
Stock_Tbl.Index="Symbol_Idx"
Stock.Tbl.Seek="MSFT"

I want to gather some data from some tables of an Access Database, I've found some solutions online, but I haven't found ways to fill a datatable, or dataset, and get each single field properly. Is it easier for me to get whole tables then get just the info that i want, or should I make a lot of searches in the access DB getting just what I want each time? Any code snippets for it? The Access Database is in an ACCDB file, with no user or password. I'm currently using VB.NET, but it doesn't matter if you answer in C#. [URL]

how to display data coming from different tables in access in a form?...the case is this:
3 tables in access:
AddBook(tablename) - ISBN(primary key), Book_Title, Author
Student(tablename) - Student_ID(primary key), Student_Name, Course, Year
Transact(tablename) - Transaction_No(primary key), ISBN(foreign key), Student_ID(foreign), Date_Borrowed
i think you can already picture it out... so what i want is to display data from Transact table and also display the data from Student and AddBook table base on the value of the foreign keys in Transact table....

I'm trying to create a simple Data Grid that will automatically save changes. So far I have a data grid connected to a MS Access 2007 Database that reads the data. I can create new fields in the Data Grid, but I need to program to save the data automatically to the database on update (or on close).

I'm an experienced Office & VBA programmer, I am new to .NET programming. I'm in the process of migrating an Access 2007 database application from Access to Visual Studio Visual Basic project for further development. In particular, I am interested in using .NET controls to display data in a user-friendly hierarchical grid control.The data for each hierarchical display is stored in two separate tables (I call them tblData and tblExtraInfo), and then I use a query to join the data and prepare for display (I call the query qryBOM).

2. How can I copy just the structure of the tables and not the data?

I have a form with 5 fields(inputs). When I entered data in the form and click submit, the data is entered into an Access 2007 Database(Table). All the set up (connection) is working because the data table is getting populated with the user info. However, I also need to search the database by entering a name in the name text box and clicking a button.
This is suppose to populated all the fields with information from the data base if the user exist. The search part is not working. I have no more hair to pull. :) Here is the code:

I need to show a grid of saved projects (compare "orders") in a datagrid, where the projects are saved in an Access 2000 database with a similar schema as follows:
ID Name Country_ID Plant_Type
1 'Test' 1 1
2 'Second' 2 2
Let's call the file "Projects.mdb". This is then showed in the datagrid as:
ID Name Country Plant Type
1 'Test' 'Germany' 'Free Range'
2 'Second' 'France' 'Inclined Roof'
where the countries and "Plant Types" are fetched from a different table in a different .mdb file (also Access 2000, call it "Language.mdb", although there is a lot of different background data in it), depending on the current user's language preference. It is unfortunately not an alternative to merge these .mdb's into one file.
To be able to show the datagrid I have so far linked the tables from "Language.mdb" into "Projects.mdb", but this screws up when the project is being installed on another computer with the .msi file i created (we'd like to have this easily packaged and installed), as the "Language.mdb" doesn't exist on the linked path on the target computer (Basically the problem here).
I can come up with the following solutions:
Force all users to install on the same path, so that the links will work (undesirable)Use connection strings in the query as shown here on MSDN (still trying this out, but I need to work on the details)make a post-install script that relinks the tables according to the correct path.

I have one DataSet and two forms, Customers and Efficiency. When I make changes to the Customers table (Delete a Customer for instance) It does not reflect the changes on the Efficiency table. The default form is Efficiency and I'm calling the Customers form from within the Efficiency form. I make the change in the Customer form, I then close the Customer form and call the Efficiency form back. The data is not updated on the Efficiency side until I close the application and re-open it. what code I need and where to inject this code?

I posted this as a bug on MS Connect and am wondering if anybody else can verify the problem: I been beating my head against the wall for about 3 days and I don't think it is my problem.
Desktop computer - Vista 64 bit
Portable Computer - Vista 32 bit
vb.net 2010 express on both of them
I can not establish a connection to an Access db (either .mdb OR .accdb) on the 64 bit computer. When I try I keep getting a message that says "Format at the initialization string does not conform to specification starting at index 0." (this was typed not copied). (There are screen shots over on Connect).
I can establish a connection to a "Microsoft SQL Server Compact Edition" (.sdf) database on the 64 bit computer.I can estabish a connection to all 3 types on the 32 bit computer (.sdf, .mdb, .accdb).The 'funny' thing is that if I establish the connection on the 32 bit and copy the program directory over to the 64 bit, the prorgam loads and seems to run fine. But the %$# _(%* Wizard will not run on the 64 bit machine. Runs fine on the 32 bit but not on the 64 bit. Of course I make sure that the db's are in the location where the program expects them to be when I run the program on the 64 bit machine.
One final thing, when I am in the progam created on the 32 bit and running on the 64 bit and I try Data->Add New Data Source->Database->Dataset only two of the three connections show up while all 3 show up on the 32 bit machine. Also the connection string is incorrect for the non-sdf connection. It should include

I grabbed some sample code to generate 100 comboboxes at runtime. The short version of the code is shown below, I left out all the combo box fortmatting and placement details...
Dim TB1 As New ComboBox()
for loop
TB1 = New ComboBox()
Me.Controls.Add(TB1)
end loop
it produces all the comboboxes and looks fine, but i cannot figure out how to reference an individual combobox. Are they in an array? How do you single out a single combo box, for example, how would I check the value of the 33rd combo box?

I have a database created using sql server express 2008. There I have two tables called tbl1 and tbl2, which are related as tbl1.CityNumber=tbl2.CityNumber.
I have created the programme using VB 2010; there, a form has three textboxes.
Tables: tbl1,tbl2 ; (related as tbl1.CityNumber=tbl2.CityNumber)
Columns to be updated:tbl1.CityName , tbl1.CityNumber, tbl2.StreetName
TextBoxes on the VB form: txtCityName , txtCityNumber, txtStreetName
[Code]....
But, now the problem is, the two tables have not get updated,after going to the database in MS.SQL Server Management Studio. I think I'm very closer to have my required result. I have tried my best to track place,where I've gone wrong.I have been trying to find a method for last five days.

There were several reference to compiling the program using x86.

I followed the path and there was not any option to select x86 in VB 2010 Express.

I am brand new to VB. I am using VB 2010 Express. I have a MS Access database and can read & display the data. However, when I enter a line of code to manipulate the data I get a "read only" error message in the project editor. I have checked the file and directory structures from windows and the command prompt. I have even used the "attrib" command to make sure the file was not read only. Then I put the following code in the form and it dispaly the read only message.
Dim infoReader As System.IO.FileInfo
infoReader = My.Computer.FileSystem.GetFileInfo("C:zzz-devaccesswhitneywhitney.accdb")
If infoReader.IsReadOnly = True Then
MsgBox("File is readonly!")
End If
I am using the VB 2010 Express DataSource to connect to the MS Access database and not a connection string in the program.

Basically in visual basic 6 I could access word tables in existing templates with the code owordactivedoc.tables(1).select() where owordactivedoc refers to the active word document and tables(1) refers to the first table in the template.Trying the same code in VB 2003 just leads to errors. Secondly how do I access bookmarks or alternatively word variables.Furthermore how do one deploy web.services. For example the current program I am building is for another computer. Simply copying the web service to Inetpubwwwroot dont work because it is not picked up by the Internet Information Services program. I have to create the web service in vb2003 on the other computer change msconfig manually. Copy and paste the existing service vb file in the created folder replacing the empty vb file.
