Add Custom Class To A Generic List?

Im having trouble using a method that is defined by an outside company
This is a link to their integration guide:
[URL]
This is their documentation for the class Im trying to use
OrderQueryWebService Class
This class is for SID in particular and is made for use with the notification methods. This is for the Order Query Web Service specifically, allowing clients to return the status of transactions for their merchant, whenever they want to.
Methods
/ <summary>
/ Pass through the variables required and receive a list of Transaction
objects showing transaction status
[Code].....
The MerchantCode, the MerchantUsername, the MerchantPassword are all good the List is a custom type called SetComHash.Transaction
Everytime I try adding a string to the list such as the transactionNumber and some other values it gives me a type error:
"Value of type string cannot be converted to 'SetcomHash.Transaction'
Here are essential excerpts for the code creating the class and the page using it:
Imports System.Collections.ObjectModel
Public Class Test (Of T as xyz)
Inherits Collection (Of T)
[code].....
Public Class notifierMain
Public Class Contacts
Inherits List(Of row)
Public Sub New()
[code]....
When I debug this winforms application I get curType = "notifier.notifierMain+Contacts+row" I want to the Validate function to know it is in MyContacts. How do I do this?
I can do this without problem.
Class A
End Class
Class B : Inherit A
End Class
Dim Obj1 As A = New B
I have several custom classes in a VB.NET (VS2008) project which are related to each other through generic list collections. The lower tier classes refer directly to some of the parent classes (to make it easier to refer backwards up the chain). My question is, is it possible to add the reference to the parent class when the item is added to a collection, when that collection is a property?
Below is some sampling of code to illustrate.
Public Class FlexServer
Private m_FlexLicenses As List(Of FlexLicense)
Private m_Modules As List(Of FlexModule)
Public Property FlexLicenses() As List(Of FlexLicense)
[code] .....
In the code above I have the FlexServer class which refers has two lists as properties, one for FlexLicense and one for Modules. The FlexLicense class has a property to refer back to the FlexServer class that "owns" it. In order to update this property in code, I have to add the FlexLicense to the FlexServer.FlexLicenses list AND set the FlexLicense.FlexServer property. What I am looking for is, is there a way (in the property definition or wherever) to both add the item to the list and alter it at the same time?
how Inheriting List(of T) should work.It seems like what I have below should work but at runtime I get the error:[code..]
If I want to cast a List(of x) to the class xlist, how should I do that?[code...]
I am trying to serialize a class that contains a generic list, and I am finding it all works with the exception of the generic list property. That is to say the other properties are serialized fine and no error is produced.
I have in the past serialized an arraylist - but I thought it was possible to do a generic list in the same way.
Am I missing something or is it not possible to serialize/deserialize a generic list - I have read mixed comments on this..
The relevant parts of the class that gets serialized is defined as..
<XmlInclude(GetType(cConfigUser)), _
Serializable(), XmlRoot(ElementName:="Config")> _
Public Class cConfig
[Code].....
I am trying to pass a System.Collections.Generic.List to another class. The collection is created in class2 and then passed into class1
[code]...
However I get a 'Null Reference Exception error' when I run the program. It seems f_str in the line 'For Each s As String In f_str' is null.
I think my question is a little more complicated than I can fit in the title. Say I have a data class for contacts:
Public Class Contact
Public Property Name As String
Public Property Phone As String
[Code].....
I have a List(Of Contact) object with several different contacts. How would I search the List for the contents of one of the properties and return the resulting Contact object?
Consider:
Public MustInherit Class Column
Public ReadOnly Property ReturnSomethingUseful() As Object
Get
'return something useful
[code]....
But this gives the following error:
Public Overrides Function ParseValue(sValue As String) As Boolean'
cannot override 'Public Overridable Function ParseValue(sValue As String) As Object'
because they differ by their return types.
I accept that you can't do this, but I'd like to be able to preserve the semantics of what I'm. trying to do, which is to have an untyped version that deals with Object, but a typed version in derived classes that knows about the specific type T.
I'm trying to copy the elements from a List(Of Frequency) where Frequency is a custom class I have made. Everything in the other places seems alright but the problem seems to be with the copying, where it still references the original table, so changing the values of one changes the original. I've tried the List.CopyTo() method and tried converting to and array with List.ToArray and then using Array.Copy but it seems they always change the original. I've also tried a for loop and create and New instance of the classes but that doesn't work either. What I'm using it for is to pass the List(Of Frequency) to a new Task to do multitasking(), if anyone can think of a better method to pass a List(Of Frequency), or an array to to a task and have it not change the original.

I am trying to construct a generic interface class with generic functions. My goal was to use this to implement multiple worker classes for database interaction that have the same basic functionality. Each class will deal with different object for example, category, product or supplier but unless the the functions in the interface are generic that this won't work. This is the interface code that I have but I don't know if I have done it correctly. View 1 RepliesI am trying to find way to design a report using my own custom class. I found links:
1.) How to work in Crystal Report with Object Data Source?
2.) Use .net object as data source in Crystal Report 2008
3.) Binding object with List<> to Crystal Report
4.) How to assign Custom class as datasource in crystal report
They were quite helpful, but I have been stuck in the first step while designing report as my custom class's property is not listed in field list of crystal report design view.[code]When I add my class objects to crystal report I do not get the usertype field from users class in field list.So how can I add usertype field to my field list? Or do I have to take another approach? The reason i wanted to use it as i am:
1.) Showing a form where user can type keyword
2.) program filters the records as per keyword using LINQ
3.) when user clicks the print button, I want to set the filtered records as datasource of my report
I am trying to create a list of a generic type in vb.net 2.0 framework.
This is the generic type definition:
Public Class GenericParamMap(Of T)
Public Sub New(ByVal pParamName As String, ByVal pPropValue As T)
mParamName = pParamName
[Code]....
The compiler does not allow a "T" in the method's parameter because it's not defined, but I'm not sure how or where to define it. I thought it was okay to have a generic method definition.
I want to create a custom class that has inside an array of another custom class (see my code below) but when the programm runs is crashes. Why? What is the right expression???? Plz help I'm a newbie in VB.net.....
Public Class ctrarray
Public nameclass As String
Public ctrlindex(glvar_spaces) As ctrlindexclass
End Class
[code]....
I am working on a general helper class to sort ListView SubItems. I wrote a base class that has much of the code I need. It includes a MustOverride for the Compare method so that the various inherited classes can implment their own comparisons based upon their type. For the value types, I end up with very similar code such as the following, where x and y are ListViewItems: Public Overloads Overrides Function Compare(ByVal x As Object, ByVal y As Object, ByVal sortColumnIndex As Integer, ByVal sortOrder As System.Windows.Forms.SortOrder) As Integer [code]
View 3 RepliesI'm looping all the properties in an object via reflection:
For Each p As PropertyInfo In values.[GetType]().GetProperties()
If p.CanRead Then
'Do stuff
End If
Next
how to determine whether the property in question is a generic List(Of T)? If it is I need to loop the list itself.
I've experimented with GetType and TypeOf but have not managed to get anything working.
To clarify, I want to keep this generic. I do not want to specify the type of T, I need to loop the list items and call the ToString method on each item. T could be one of a number of different types (application specific reference types). Is it possible to do this without specifying types?

i have issue returning a list in a web method. here is the code
<WebMethod()> _
Public Function getTags(para_parents As String) As List(Of getTypeDetailsByParentName_Result)()
Dim context As New PPEntities
[code]....
the error is
Value of type 'System.Collections.Generic.List(Of SaftyonRoad.getTypeDetailsByParentName_Result)' cannot be converted to '1-dimensional array of System.Collections.Generic.List(Of SaftyonRoad.getTypeDetailsByParentName_Result)'
What would be the fastest way to sort a list that contains a list of objects, based upon another list? An example follows:Say I have multiple lists of employees. Each individual list has a common property value, say "Department". So I have a list of employees, in one list they all have the department string value of "Sales". In another list all the objects have a department value of "Finance". These lists of employees are then contained in a list which holds them all.
I have a second list, which should drives the sort order of the employee lists. The second list simply contains a list of strings like, "Finance", "Sales", "IT" and so on. I'd like my lists of customers to be sorted in the order of "Finance", "Sales", etc.I'm using VB.NET in .NET 2.0
I am trying to implement a simple IEqulityComparer to use with LINQ collections. I have written the following code which is reduced to its simplest form for discussion purposes...
Public Structure bob
Dim SiteID As Integer
Dim fred As String
End Structure
[code]....
The problem that I have is that both functions throw the compiler warning "function 'getHashCode' (or 'Equals') shadows an overridable method in the base class 'Object'. To override the base class method, this method must be declared 'Overrides'."
However, if I declare them as Overrides, I get the error "function 'GetHashCode' cannot be declared Overrides because it does not override a function in the base class."!!I am also getting a compiler error on the "Implements" line to the effect that I must implement "getHashCode" but I presume that is a result of the first problem.
I wrote a class which imports System.Collections.ObjectModel. For the management of the collection, I've written:
Default Public ReadOnly Property Item(ByVal vntIndexKey As Integer) As ItemType
Get
Return CType(mCol.Item(vntIndexKey), ItemType)
[code].....
To the point: I need to transfer a custom object's event through a generic collection object containing these items so that any class using the collection can see that changes were made to one of the items in the collection.
I.E. An item event that triggers a collection event
[Code].....
Due to the application requirements, I need the Collection and Items to send immediate notice of various changes that occur to the Collection Class and its items. I've already got my events set-up regarding for the Collection Class, but I'm struggling with coming up with a workable solution for raising events for the items.
I've got an event for the DeviceLayer item set-up, but how do you transfer that event through the CollectionClass so that any other class using it will see that there was a change to one of the items in the collection?
Dim x = GetType(List(Of )) 'valid statement
Dim list As New List(Of String)
Now I want to see if list is a List(Of T) variable: Dim isList = TypeOf list Is List(Of ) On the last line I get a compile error: "Type Expected". Is there any cheap-performance TypeOf operator alternative for generics?
I have converted c# .cs to vb:= I have 6 errors on:
Red "List" says Too few type arguments to system.Collections.Generic.List(Of T)'
Orange "Calendar" says Value of type 'System.Windows.Forms.Control.ControlCollection' cannot be converted to 'Form1.Kobush.Windows.Forms.Appointment'.

I'm making a custom class that mocks the System.Drawing.Rectangle class because the Rectangle class doesn't have a name property. I need a name property because I am adding all of my rectangles to a collection and I need a little more info stored than just their locale and size. So I changed the _onPaint event but nothing is working out when I run the program?
