I have a dataset containing 2 tables,Customers and Contacts. Just showing the master-detail is not a problem. Problem occurs when I try to search the master table to bring in the detail table. Searching the master table shows only the master record, but not the related detail records. Adding a 'findby' query on the detail table only shows the records.url.. Normally when the master table is filled, the detail record shows in a form.
I have made several posts on here lately regarding master/detail or parent/child data setups but no one has been able to help. It seems like a subject people don't like to tackle BUT I really need help.
I'm having a real hard with the DataView.RowFilter functionality and it is driving me insane.
For the most part, I have the basic master/detail functionality working. When you select a record in the first grid, it shows the correct data in the second grid. When you enter a record in the first grid, you can enter related data in the second grid. I accomplish this by using a dataview and row filter bound to the 2nd grid. When you change the record in the first grid, the rowfilter for the 2nd grid is restated and reapplied.
The problem arises when I overwrite the primary field value in the first grid and the detail records become orphaned. You would think all I have to do is change the ID in the 2nd grid to match the new ID in the 1st grid but this is where I am having problems. I wrote a loop to change the ID of each record currently loaded in the 2nd grid to match the newly changed ID in the first grid. The code is here:
Code: Dim I As Integer
For I = AuthorizationGroupsDGV.Rows.Count - 2 To 0 Step -1 AuthorizationGroupsDGV.Rows(I).Cells(0).Value = StrEmployeeID Next
I have used this code before and it works great. It has to step backwards through the grid because when the ID's are changed, they no longer match the RowFilter criteria and they disappear from the grid. They still exist in the dataset. The problem is, while the code "works" the intended effect does not. Some of the records completely disappear from the dataset and do not reload when I restate the row filter against the new ID number.
When I double click on a row on a datagrid, a form will appear like the above screenshot.
When I double click on the row which consist of Brian/Kendall, a form will appear and should show Brian in the First Name text box and Kendall should appear in the Last Name textbox.
I want to create a sub that gets changes from my typed dataset and datatable. But it says mydatatable is not a public member of dataset. Passing in as objects.
Public Sub GetRateChanges(ByVal myDataSet, ByVal myDataTable) If myDataSet.HasChanges(DataRowState.Modified Or DataRowState.Added) Then ' Create DataSet variable. Dim xDataSet As DataSet

Another question. . I pull this infor from a view via tableadapter and it comes from several different tables.. How could I save my changes and insert the new records to the appropriate tables>?
What I am trying to do is update existing records in a dataset with an unbound datagridview. It updates just fine but I have added a simple backcolor change for errors. What I don't understand is it will update fine but throw the backcolor = red at the same time. Am I overlooking something here?
vb.net For Each dr As DataRow In Form1.DbDataSet.Tables("tblInventory").Select() For Each row As DataGridViewRow In DataGridView1.Rows If row.Cells("colInventoryID").Value = vbEmpty Then 'Do Nothing Else If dr.Item("Inventory ID").ToString() = row.Cells("colInventoryID").Value.ToString() And

I'm trying to get this working in a test application before adding it to my main project, so that's why the names of controls are the way they are.The errors I'm trying to show are if "Inventory ID", "Cart" and "Shelf" do not match. When they don't match it doesn't update, which is what it is supposed to do. However, if they do match they update just fine but also show the Inventory ID error. If I comment out that ElseIf for the Inventory, it throws the Cart error. It's like the ElseIf blocks get called even if the If statement is true...
I created a database (.mdf) file. I added data to it after running the program in debug mode. When I closed it and opened it up again, the data I got was stored and loaded again.I closed my whole Visual Basic Express program. When I opened it up again, all the data had disappeared.
Can you tell me what I am doing wrong with the program? I can't get queries to work either. It worked when I used the NOrthwind dataset this past weekend but it is not working when I use my own or empty dataset.
I have a graphics application I'm working on that displays full screen so there's no control in the upper right to close the application. I have it set up so that a right click closes the application but I noticed that a right click menu comes up on the desk top after my application closes which is no big deal. You could ignore it but I was wondering if there's a way to turn off the right click menu so that it wouldn't come up though I would want it to be enabled after that first click that closes my program.
So the right click would close the program disable the right click menu and then enable it again so that the next right click would show the menu. Haven't come up with anything on searches. I could use something else to close my application but if there's a convenient way of doing this I would like to find out what it is. I have almost every key on the keyboard doing something though I haven't used F1 through F12 at the top of the keyboard. Maybe I'll use F1 if I don't find out how to do this. How to use F1 to F12 to close or do something?
I've been using keypress events to do a lot in my application but for Select Case e.KeyChar Case "F1"c isn't valid. I tried other things. {F1} etc. I have option strict on. Thus the little c is necessary for characters like "a"c or "b"c.
I managed to displayed records from two tables in one datagridview and the first column being a combobox. Now, I would like to get those records displayed and save it to another table. this what I did.
For i As Integer = 0 To dtgLoad.Rows.Count - 1 Using command As New SqlCommand("INSERT INTO tblteachersload (Teacher ,SubjectName) " & _ "VALUES (@Teacher, @Subject)", cnn) With command.Parameters .AddWithValue("@Teacher", Me.dtgLoad("Column1", 0).Value) [Code] ......
I would like to loop through the records of the datagridview and then save the same to a table.
I am having a problem trying to save records in a parent / child data relation. I have to tables tblContacts & tblMember. There is a fk relation on the ContactID field. The tblContacts table is the master record. I am using a set up bound windows forms controls to do the data collection. The problem that I am having is in saving the child record. After the form is populated in both the fields and hitting the save button the items in the child record get deleted. It does add a row in the child record but only the ContactID (from the master table) and the key for the tblMember table. This program will not be using a datagrid. I did experiment with datagrids and it works well. The problem is when I try to use detail views in the form of textboxes that are bound to the bindingsource.

I can see that since the new master record incites the addition of a new row, the data is abandoned. Once there is a save done to the master / child record I can go back and modify the fields and it saves it successfully. I know I must be missing something small. I am not sure how to work around this so that the controls are read into memory and then completed in the new row. I have an example of my code:
Private Sub TblContactsBindingNavigatorSaveItem_Click_1(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles TblContactsBindingNavigatorSaveItem.Click Dim newMemberRow As DataRow 'To create a new row in the tblMember table
I am having trouble with a separate program that keeps saying Adobe flash is not installed. And I have tried everything but it still wont go away (that was off topic a bit). I want to create a program that will auto click the words "Click Here" if the error message shows. Because if I click there then it will work normally until it pops up again.
I'm trying to add a new record in the DataSet in the master table. I'm not including a value in the unique ID field because it is added automatically by the server. At the moment I add second new row it throw me an error Column 'ContactID' is constrained to be unique. Value '' is already present. Do I need to set value of id column manually? How?
da.Fill(ds, "tblContactsProfil") daAddress.Fill(ds, "tblContactsProfilAddress") Dim relation As New DataRelation("ContactsDetail", _ ds.Tables("tblContactsProfil").Columns("ContactID"), _
My client recently got this error but I can't reproduce it on my pc. Any Idea what the problem could be. I have a master/detail scenario. So I have a grandparent/parent relationship, so when I select a product from my product combobox it displays the relevant results from the Result_Header table in my first datagridview.
Then I have a parent/child relationship so that when I select a result_header item from my first datagridview it displays the child records from the Result_detail table. If i'm adding a new Result_Header and then click save, I search for existing tests for the chosen product and insert them as new datarows into the Result_detail table. then I can update the child rows and click the second save button and it saves what I edit. Quite complicated.
Dim data As DataSet Private dbpath As String = My.Settings.dbpath Private con As New OleDbConnection("Provider=Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0;" _ & "Data Source=" & dbpath & ";Persist Security Info=False;")
i created a type dataset. added two table adapters and made relationship on the key. now i want to show the datagridview with master/detail. how i can do it?
Am new to VB, can anyone tell me very simple how to share the MAIN Bindingsource with an detail form where i want to edit 1 record from the main datasource? andreg
I am writing a program about dog grooming. There are three levels: puppy package, economy package, and the spa treatment package. I have created a database with the customer's name and desired package already. I would like to create a program, that with a click of a button, will show each package detail with the names of the customers. For example: 10 customers that want the puppy package. I want it to loop from one to the last with each button click and place it in a list box.
I have to create a program where the user enters 2 numbers and the program outputs all the even and odd numbers between those 2 numbers.I have that part of the code complete. But now I have to enter code where if the user enters a letter instead a number in either input box, that a message pops up and tells them to enter a number, instead of a letter... I keep going round and round on this and can't seem to get it quiet right. Here's my

I use a simple master-detail form using Visual basic 2005 express edition and ms sql server 2005 express edition, as well.
The master table is dept (deptno int, dname nvarchar(50)) .
The deail table is emp (empno int, deptno int, ename nvarchar(50)).
The primary key for the dept table is deptno and for the emp table is empno.
There is also a foreign key (deptno on emp table).
I created a new project, connected to a db (called test.mdf) and created a data source consisting the two of the above reffered tables.
I dragged and dropped these tables on the form and i noticed the following:
1)When the form opens... the system queries the database and displays the data on each block on the form.
2)I insert and/or update a record on the master table (dept) and everything goes well...
3)I try to insert and/or update a record on the detail table (emp) and nothing is changed on the detail table - without any error.
4)When i try to insert and/or update a record on the detail table (emp) which violates the primary key constraint or foreign key the system complaints...(as expected).
There are a lot of master/detail databinding examples with detail form on the same window than the master, I can't find any example where detail is in a new window.
I have a master/detail datagridview setup. I am using a Dataset to manage select, update, deletes. I have various text columns and combobox columns in the master datagridview. I use this code to save all changes to both tables:
Private Sub ProductsBindingNavigatorSaveItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles ProductsBindingNavigatorSaveItem.Click Dim saved As Boolean = False Dim TestForChanges As DataTable Me.Validate() Me.Result_HeaderBindingSource.EndEdit() [Code] ......
I now need to tap into the tableadapter.updateall or change the way I update so I can use the autocomplete. Also I don't have a key/value pair in the autocomplete like I would in a combobox. Any better way to do this task.
I have a small non mdi form with only 3 controls. The user can select a name of an animal on a listbox and a thumbnail picture of it is shown on the picturebox. There is also a tton. The tooltip on the thumbnail is quite important as left/right click do different actions but for some reason the tooltip will not display unless the user clicks the form.
I'm trying work a little bit more with msgboxes and I'm sorta confused with them right now. This is waht I have:
[Code]...
What its doing right now is opening my first msgbox with y/n style. If I click no then it shows my second msgbox. Heres the problem When I click yes on my msgbox it shows the ofd2. But if I click yes on my first msgbox it still shows my second msgbox but if I click no on that it shows my ofd1. I know the difference between the 2 openfiledialogs because I have the filters are different. My question is how do I get the second msgbox to not show if I click yes on my first msgbox?
I have a large form that is set up from master-detail datasets in Visual Studio 2008.I havene master table with a large amount of detail tables. Several of the detail tables also have detail tables linked. Now I need to add a master table that sits on top of my existing master table making it a detail table.
i have a master detail form with databound datagridviews.my detail datagridview is bound to FKFieldSubFieldLookupTableBindingSource and it shows the linked sub-fields when the main field changes. This datagrid has only one column which is the sub-field names column. this column type is ComboBox.here are this combobox details
DataSource = subFieldLookupBindingSource DisplayMember = sub_field_name value Member = sub_field_id
No Problem until here. When i click on the Cell combobox I get the list of all the sub-fields. I don't want this. because once a sub-field has been associated with a Master field, it should not be available for other Master fields. What i did was, In the SubFieldLookup Dataset, i added a query to get all those sub-fields which haven't been associated yet.but this clears up the detail datagrid and shows blank comboboxes where it is supposed to have the sub-fields.
I simplly want the master-detail mechanism to work and when i want to add a new sub-field, and click the combobox in sub-fields datagrid, i want to have only those sub-fields which are marked False in database in the column 'alreadyAssociated'.
