I thought this would be simple... I am finding it not that easy.
We have a server that users need to execute a command on however we do not want them to have login rights to the server so this will allow them to execute the batch file without having to log in.

I have created a vb.net application that uses a SQL Server database at a remote location over the internet.There are 10 vb.net clients that are working on the same time.The problem is in the delay time that happens when inserting a new row or retrieving rows from the database, the form appears to be freezing for a while when it deals with the database, I don't want to use a background worker to overcome the freeze problem.I want to eliminate that delay time and decrease it as much as possible?

So I came up with the idea of creating an irc server that listens to commands that I type from my main computer. View 1 RepliesOk this is what I'm stuck on:I have 2 ListBoxes and 2 Lists, let's call them ListBox1, ListBox2, List1 and List2.List1 needs to be associated with ListBox 1, and List2 with ListBox2 I loop through a bunch of accounts, add them to LixBox1 at run-time.During that loop I add each account number to List1 so now the account number is associated with the ListBox index number which is right.Now when I double click one of the accounts in ListBox1 it is added to ListBox2 (but it still remains in ListBox1), and the same index of List1 added to List 2, now the account in ListBox2 is associated with the account number at the same index in List2 you see where I'm going with this?The issue wtarts here.When I double click an account (let's say the account at the first index) in ListBox2 it should be removed from the list, so now I remove the index from List2 since it's no longer needed, but now you know what's happened right? ListBox2's List indexes have all decremented by 1 because I just removed an item from the beginning of the list, but List2's indexes have stayed the same (at least that's how it appeared when I tested it).
So basically whats the best method for keeping things in reference? I was told about list boxes in another thread of mine, but is it really the best way to go about this, I can't seem to keep everything linked together reliably.
I'm trying to add a new data connection to a SQL Server database that lives out on my network. When I add the new connection I get the "Choose Data Source" dialog but it only contains the following:
Microsoft Access Database File
Microsoft SQL Server Database File
I don't see an option for a remote SQL database. How can I add that option to my list?

What I need to be able to do is get the unique field it adds. It +1's to ID every time I add a field there, but how do I get that without hacky database looping?

View 5 RepliesI have a simple app (coded in VB 2008 Express Edition) that uses an SQL Server database (in .mdf format) that works fine on my own machine. I created the database in SQL Server on this machine. I added the DB as a data source and it works fine. But when packaged this app (ClickOnce) and installed this app on a different machine the installer tries to download MS SQL Server Express. Obviously this is because SQL Server is a prerequisite and is not installed on the other machine. But just as obvious is the fact that the download will take a long time to complete before my code even starts installing.
My question is this: Is there an SQL Server reference (using Add Reference...) that I can add to avoid this? I suspect the application just needs one or two DLL files from SQL Server. Downloading the whole product seems like overkill. Is there a way I can included the needed files in my app to avoid this long download process?
As a preface, I am brand new to using SQL Server 2005; I know how to use the SELECT, UPDATE, DELETE, and INSERT commands and that's about it. I am also using Express Edition on my local PC (E8400 processor, 8GB of DDR2-800, 2 x 640GB SATA-II HDD in RAID 1)
I have a table that I set up with 8 columns, all are NVARCHAR(Max) and I allow Null. I know in concept what a primary key is, but I don't have one (nor do I know how to set one up).
My VB.NET program that I'm working on is downloading a historical stock price chart from Yahoo, for every single ticker symbol in existence. The first 50,000 rows or so I added was super fast. Then I went to bed, and when I woke up it was still running - but the rate of row additions has slowed waaaaaay down; I noticed this around row 300,000. I always expected the rate of row addition to be constant over time, but obviously this is not so!
From browsing other Stack Overflow questions, I suspect my slow down is related to my piss-poor table setup. If this is the case, where should I begin first to fix this, and are there any good resources I could read up on to get started? I'm hoping this is something simple I can fix [code]....
I have linked VB to my sql server and all my tables and data load correctly in VB.I drag and dropped my table in "detail" view and then debugged the program, little did I know, when I tried to add a new instance of data into my table I literally have to enter the primary key. My problem is that every-time one of the children wish to access a website that has been unintentionally blocked, I have to enter my password to bypass the filter for that page, which can get quite annoying having to run around the house. To access the AdminCP, you have to enter an IP address in the browser on the local machine (127.0.0.1:2372)so you can change the settings.I wish to create a program that will allow me to remotely access the Admin page to unblock any sites needed from my computer.
