Adding Mailbox With VB - Upgrade To Exchange 2010?
Jan 21, 2011
We are getting ready to convert to Exchange 2010. Currently we're using VB code to add new users to AD and create mailbox for them with specific settings. I've been trying to figure out - what do I need to change in my code in order for the code to work in Exchange 2010 environment. I've seen some references about using Powershell in a remote environment and guessing that AddPSSnapIn will no longer work. Not sure about hardcoding username and password for remote access. Is there any way to avoid it? Whose u/p should it be anyway? AD user who runs the code? Below I'm posting the code that we using in Exchange 2007. Please let me know what I need to change?
Apologies if this is in the wrong sub-forum. My organization has a custom application for creating and managing AD users and exchange mailboxes. Under exchange 2003 this worked perfectly. Earlier this year we implemented exchange 2007. Some alterations were made to the code to keep it running - and successfully creating mailboxes. This worked up until we removed the last exchange 2003 server.
I have a mailbox that gets alerts from different servers from time to time. Each time, we get this alert, I want it to perform a custom action based on the contents of the email. And I would like to keep it as a service in (C# or VB.net) which can be run from anywhere. Is there an API for reading this?
6 program to VB .NET 2008 that had code that used the CDO 1.21 DLL to validate if a mailbox entered existed on an Exchange server. I saw the one posting from Microsoft that states that CDO is not supported on the .NET Framework. As this is a client application, the article recommended using WebDav to interact with the Exchange Server.
Using .NET (VB or C#), how can I add an e-mail alias to a user in Active Directory? I have written code to change the format of our usernames from "first_last" to "first.last.country" and I need to update the e-mail addresses as well. Our solution is to add an alias e-mail to the users in exchange, but I don't know how I can do this using .NET.
I know that VS 2003, 2005 and 2008 had the VB6 to VB.NET Upgrade Wizard. Now, on a email list I'm on a said that he cannot open a .vbp file to use the upgrade wizard in VB 2010. Is there no Upgrade Wizard in VB 2010?
I am upgrading a program from VB6to VB2010.Is there no upgrade wizard for this? When I tried to upgrade to VB2008 I got a message ole_e_cant_bindtosource. Looking online the two suggestions on changing the registry didn't work so I thought I would go straight to VB2010.
I have a project on VS 2005 which was running fine with exchange 2003, now the customer migrated to 2010 and my app. is failing when tries to create mailbox. My app. is console based and its running on windows 2003 and 2.0 .net framework. Exchange 2010 is running on a W2K8 and 3.5 framework. I guess a good option would be to develop a webservice (with VS 2010 for example) but not sure if EWS is able create mailboxes.
Scenario: I have about 14000 word documents that need to be converted from "Microsoft Word 97 - 2003 Document" to "Microsoft Word Document". In other words upgraded to 2010 format (.docx).
Question: Is there an easy way to do this using API's or something? Note: I've only been able to find a microsoft program that converts the documents to .docx but they still open in compatability mode. It would be nice if they could just be converted to the new format. Same functionality you get when you open an old document and it gives you the option to convert it.[URL]..EDIT2: This is my current function for converting the documents
[Code]...
Also it opens word after about 2 or 3 conversions and starts flashing but keeps converting.EDIT3: Tweaked to code above a little bit and it runs cleaner. Takes 1min10sec to convert 8 files though. Considering I have 14000 I need to convert this method will take a reasonably long time.
EDIT4: Changed the code up again. Uses a threadpool now. Seems to run a bit faster. Still need to run on a better computer to convert all the documents. Or do them slowly by folder. Can anyone think of any other way to optimize this?
I want a custom menu when I right click. Like, you know when you right click on your desktop, and you see a bunch of menus, like properties and whatnot. How do I do that with VB.Net? Also, how to add custom?
I have been using VB6 forever, but I need to to create new app versions for Vista/7, and beyond. My employer bought Visual Studio 2005 Pro a few years back, but i have never opened it.What would be the best upgrade step for me from VB6? Is 2005 adequate, or 2008, or 2010?
We primarily create apps for building and hardware controls, monitoring, logging, and communications. Will be using MySQL in the cloud with apps too.
I have one about one apllication send SMS trough GSM modems. The application works fine, and without problems. The questions now, is: - I use Huawey E220, to send the SMS, with AT commands. Now, I wanna migrate for better hardware, and try use another GSM Modem. In this case, I was try with Siemens M20 Terminal. But, with this kind of equipment the applicatiosn doesn't work. It was necessary some extra code for establish communication?
I tried to put just the name of the in the .To but that didn't work. Could someone please point me in the direction or show me how to do it?EDIT: My Code is Below...
Dim Subject as String = "Services for " & date.today.string Dim Body as String = strHTML (defined elsewhere on form) Dim oApp as Outlook._Application
[code]....
I didn't copy or paste as the code is on a second computer and that one isn't network connected. I typed it in, so there may be a typo or two. When this code is executed, nothing is sent.
I have just upgraded to 2010 and i am having a problem with my first conversion. Part of the applications form load which as been converted from 2008 to 2010 is to check if a string in my settings is empty or not (databasepath), if its empty then browse for the file. If the user prsses cancel then it should close the application. This was working fine on 2008 but now it gets to Me.Close, goes to formclosing then comes back to where it was in form load and carrys on until it throws an error further down the code where it shouldnt really get to. Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
I just upgraded a project from VB 2008 to VB 2010. Before, the project did not use LINQ. I have started implementing it. So, I have updated the target framework from 2.0 to 3.5, and added a reference to System.Core, and imported the namespace System.LINQ to the entire project and also imported System.Data.LINQ into the form I'm working with (because it was not available in the list for Imported Namespaces in the references tab).
It's not throwing any errors now, but my IntelliSense is not working for LINQ stuff.
For example... I write this:
[CODE]....................
Then, if I type S. on the next line, the IntelliSense doesn't grab what it should for S (Only get Equals, GetHashCode, GetType, ReferenceEquals, and ToString, instead of the options I should get like Count, First, FirstOrDefault, etc...). If I Type S.First. then its the same thing, no IntelliSense that lists the available fields for S, just the standard options (Equals, GetHashCode, GetType, ReferenceEquals, and ToString). I should be seeing my column names in my table when I type S.FirstOrDefault.
So any ideas what is going on? When I type the code, for example, MessageBox.Show(S.FirstOrDefault.FirstName), it works perfectly. But it doesn't change the casing of the text (so it would read s.firstordefault.firstname) and no intellisense while doing it. But no errors. BTW - Everything works perfectly when creating a NEW VS 2010 application, it's just my projects upgraded from Visual Basic 2008 that have this issue.
Say I have a Framework 4.0 project that is referencing a class library targeting 3.5. The project will simply not build. It won't give me any valid error message it will just act as though the reference does not exist.
Projects that were working like this in Visual Studio 2008 are no longer working in 2010. Took me forever to figure out what there error is. If I remove the project reference and add it back the intellisense lights up and you can tell a variable referenced in the class library is found. But as soon as you build the project everything is lost. My using statements get underlined, references to the variable all turn grey and project fails to build saying the class cannot be found. Once I make the class library 4.0 as well everything builds. I get the same issue between 4.0 client profile and 4.0 as well.
In my mailbox, google search, etc when we enter 2-3 chars all words starting with those chars come in like a pop up window, we select from that list and the text is displayed in the text box. Same happens in th To/CC/Bcc text fields, we get name and email of our mailbox. I want to implement the same in a form of my MDI application. I want is 2 values same like name, email and on selecting any from the list, it should be displayed in respective text fields. But I haveno clue how to implement this in VB.NET.
how to implement it. I will require the same in more than 1 forms, so is it possible to use Write Once and Use Many times. Atleast 2-3 times is the same data but in differnet forms.
I have looked high and low and can't seem to find some sample code anywhere.I am looking for a snippet of code that will return all the folders in a Mailbox, not so much the drafts, nbox, outbox, sent items but a custom folder created by the user.Using MS Outlook 2007 ver.12.I know how the look for items in a folder but it only shows me the items in my Inbox.I need to show all the folders available and let the user select the folder to search in Or at this point I would settle for a way to set the defaultfolder. I can make this accept anything other than olFolderInbox?
When I run this code it give this error ""Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: 5.7.3 Requested action aborted; user not authenticated"".
The code: Dim mail As New MailMessage() Dim SmtpServer As New SmtpClient SmtpServer.Credentials = New Net.NetworkCredential(TextBox1.Text, TextBox5.Text) ProgressBar1.Value = 10 SmtpServer.Port = 587 [Code] .....
how to create a mailbox but it seems like im stock cause i dont know the correct syntax. Thats the table inside my database that handles the messages function. Im Logged in as NIXZ. What will this command return i mean it contains multiple variables:
We have an old legacy SQL 2000 server (the last in the farm) - We've been unable to get rid of this server as it uses xp_findnextmsg, xp_readmail etc to monitor a mailbox (via mapi) and import all email to that address into a database. The database contains simple tables that store "from", "to", "subject", "body", "Sent Date" & so on.As you may know, the procs above are no longer in use in SQL 2005+This table is read from dozens of internal systems, for instance emails to this mailbox can be automatically picked up by our helpdesk systems & create calls etc.My question is this: what it the easiest / modern way of doing this in SQL 2008+? Is it going to be a case of writing a .net binary / service that will use smtp or something to connect to a mailbox and insert the data into SQL or is there a simpler way to do it? (SSIS / 3rd party tools / pre-existing code / projects?)
Just thought I'd ask before i start writing something - no point re-inventing the wheel as it were.
PS: The Mailbox in question is an exchange 2010 mailbox.Edit: This functionality was hinted to be re-introduced in 2008 & dbmail: http://connect.microsoft.com/SQLServer/feedback/details/126167/xp-readmail-replacement-for-sql-2005 but it looks like it failed to materialise!
Edit 2: I've just found a decent code sample here that utilises the new web services in exchange 2007+: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/forums/en-US/sqltools/thread/dd2b465b-b1d2-4c0d-82ec-c36c6c482d5d - experimenting in progress (has anyone ever worked with SQL and the Exchange web services?)
Edit 3: All done! I knocked up a .net service that sits on our exchange server and monitors a mailbox & pushes any new mail into SQL. Incase others have a similar question and need some sample code to get started - here is some rough code (chopped out of my service - replaced parameterised SQL with basic dynamic SQL for easy reading): (Note: you'll need the EWS API 1.1 dll)
I'm adding labels at runtime to my form with a tag. Let's say I have 3 labels with the tags, "1", "2" and "3". I'm adding the tags by counting the labels + 1. When I remove a label with tag "2" from the form there are only 2 left. When I add a new label it will add a new tag "3", but that one already exist. So my "solution" isn't a very good one Although tag "2" is free, I want to give it "4". Any thoughts on how to code this properly?
I need to pull back the security descriptors for the active directory attribute "msExchMailboxSecurityDescriptor" on user account objects. So far, all I can find is that I need to use this class to do so, but I cannot find any example code of how to start to pull what I want out using it.I'm restricted to using .Net v2.0.
One of my clients is going from Server 2000, SQL 2000 w/ VB6 to a new environment of Windows SBS 2008, SQL 2005 standard 64bit, w/ Visual Studios 2005. We have a custom built app written all in VB that has been converted. We already took care restoring the databases and setting up the odbc and such. After conversion, the app threw a couple of errors, and warnings, which have been fixed. We have a formload function that is supposed to populate 2 fields with dropdown information. One is a folders list in outlook and the other is a send recipient. The Recipient field populates fine and the outlook email box does not. Here is the formload code. I can't figure out why this would allow one box to fill and not the other.
Private Sub frmProcessEmail_Load(ByVal eventSender As System.Object, ByVal eventArgs As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load 'starts up email start()
