Adding A 'setting Block' To XML File?

Here's the problem, going back to an earlier project - I have a block of 'settings' text in TextBox3, and need to search my XML document for that block - I then need to ADD a settings block from TextBox5 AFTER the found settings block, without having the format messed up - This is the 'block' I am trying to search for:

Is this even possible? I've tried a few different coding procedures, but I can only seem to search for a single string part [ One line ], and the <SettingEntry> tag is used for every line in the XML...

Is there a simple way when using a datagrid to restrict the user from changing existing records but allowing them to add them. I have lookup tables that I want them to be able to add to but not edit the existing entries.

So I am populating a combobox with all the computers time zones and then by default selecting the local time zone. I can populate the combobox but the selecting of the default item has me puzzled.[code]So maybe my lack of understanding this but when i bind the collection to the combobox does it not get filled with TimeZoneInfo objects. In other words isn't each list item of type TimeZoneInfo? If so why doesn't the qdx assignment not work? I get back a -1 which means it couldn't find the timezone object in the combobox but it can find it in the tzCollection. I also experimented with .SelectedItem but that didn't pan out either.I'm just not understanding how this is supposed to work. It works now because I think there is a one-to-one mapping from tzCollection to the cbo items.

adding to the binding source then setting the combobox to selectedIndex of newly added row is not working.the new row is in there but it does not set the selectedIndex to the specified index. but if I run the code a second time it selects it.what can i do to make sure the combo uses the specified index?

1. I have a DataGridView box, that is connected to a MySQL database via the 'Data Source'. I am trying to do the datagridview1.rows.add("info here"), however i receive an error i cannot do this programmatically. I DO know the code to post to MySQL via the "insert into" la la la.However, I was curious if I can do this via the datagridview a bit..easier/simpler, such as a "datagridview1.rows.add(stuff)" sorta thing.
2. I am attempting to make a custom control, and as with ANY control, they have their.. settings. Example, a textbox, or label, has so you can set the Text. and color, etc.Others, have it (such as datagridview) have the little icon on the control itself, where you click it, and it opens a small window with settings.

I'm reading in a binary format. Strings are in a string block at the end of the file.
In the format, each record has an integer that is the offset in the string block where the string is located.
I could use the BinaryReader.BaseStream.Position property to advance to the location of the string and read it, and then set the position back, but that seems like that would be messy to me.

First of all: is it a problem that I have that Try/Catch/Finally block inside of a SyncLock?
Second of all: suppose this code runs, on an event, potentially many times within a small timeframe--say, ten times in one second. Is it OK to have it SyncLock like this, or would it make more sense to have it add a line to a Queue, and then write all the lines from the Queue to the file on a timer that goes off, say, every second?

I have a block of HTML which I want to write to a file. It contains about 30 lines and it's difficult to escape all the double-quotes in individual WriteLine statements. In PERL, I can do something like the following to write inline HTML and print everything upto <<OUTFILE to outfile as-is, is that possible in VB .Net 2008?

I have a typical databound Form with a bound ComboBox bound on the form Load event.I have a typical BindingSource and BindingNavigator Control with an "AddNew" button.When a new record is added to the dataentry form (i.e. not the combobox) I intend the combobox to default to the first value in the list by setting...

I have this in the BindingNavigatorAddNewItem_Click event but it has no effect! I also tried placing mycombo.selectedindex = 0 in the BindingSource "AddingNew" event but this also has no effect. I have discovered that the "selectedindex" is somehow inexplicably changing itself back to -1 As an experiment I added a button to the form and on the click event pasted "mycombo.selectedindex = 1".I added a newrecord then clicked this button and the combobox updated as expected. But I wont this to work as I'm adding a record!Is there a particular event where I should set mycombo.selectedindex = 1 apart from the two I mentioned?

I am creating a program that allows a person to enter details about their farm, stock, and machinery in order to electronically keep track of all of the information. I have created the forms and done all the coding for the data entry, and now what I would like to do is allow the user to delete a single record from the .dat file. I am able to delete it from the LstBox (using a "Delete Entry" btn coded simply with
lstvehicles.Items.RemoveAt(lstvehicles.SelectedIndex)
(using the vehicles section for examples)), but I am unsure of how to delete it from the .dat file as well, to prevent it reloading upon data change / program reload. Also I would like to be able to have a reminder come up on the program start up that gives a reminder to (in the vehicles instance)when a vehicles rego is due, the date being associated to a date that is entered into the same lstbox data using a datetimepicker.

So this is a pretty dumb question, and one I am clearly misunderstanding for whatever the reason. I have an ASP.net project and the default aspx page loads a file. I made a class to deal with file handling, in it I hard coded the local directory to where that file is. I want to make that path relative to the default.aspx page. I can't figure out how to do that. I have read a lot of stuff on MSDN, and it makes simple sense, but when I put it to code I can't seem to get it right.
I feel my answer is here, I understand what it is saying but I can't translate that to my program.[URL] Code such as
Dim rootPath As String = Server.MapPath("~")
makes sense to me but I can't use 'Server' for some reason.
I have used this spot of code to supplement my problem for now.

We have this current VBA program to help us with AutoCAD via the use of a template excel sheet.The setup we have created works well; however occasionally we have two drawings per folder, which often results in, two templates excel sheets of the same name, one overwriting the other. how I can set the active drawing name in a variable that our program uses to check for, then if not present that it creates a copy of out template and then saves it as the active drawings file name which was set as the variable
This would allow our program to locate the associated excel sheet by name then save it by the unique drawing name and prevent existing excel files being overwritten if in the same folder.

I have an application that opens a bunch of Excel files in the background and saves them as pdf files (amoung other functions) and when accessing these Excel files on a shared drive I get a lot of quick pop ups that look like they say "Downloading..." something or other (to hard to get a screenshot) they also have a progress bar. In our projects we use setting variables to store user setting for the applications. Moreover, with every latest version of the applications, we upgrade these variables to retain user settings.Normally, this works fine, but recently one of my end user reported an error i.e.Configuration System failed to initialize". The error is related to user.config file. Therefore we requested the user to send us his file.After received the folder, we noticed that it contains 3 files (3begfjb.newcfg,3begfjb.tmp and user. config). 3begfjb.tmp is an empty file, while 3begfjb.newcfg and user.config are identical files. We tried to open these files but the data in user.config isn't proper xml rather its unreadable formatted file.Do any you guys had experienced this sort of issue or any ideas how and what may have created these files and corrupted user.config file.
