I'm reading in a binary format. Strings are in a string block at the end of the file.
In the format, each record has an integer that is the offset in the string block where the string is located.
I could use the BinaryReader.BaseStream.Position property to advance to the location of the string and read it, and then set the position back, but that seems like that would be messy to me.
I was wondering, is their any way to change a string into a line of math code. I was working on a graphing calculator project and am having trouble splicing up everything into variables and coefficient and operators. Example, having this block of code work
I have a button (btnAdd) that adds the content of a textbox (txtName) to a textblock (lblName). I want to add a date to the textblock when btnAdd is pressed but I want it to be a different font size and colour. So far my code looks like lblName.Text = txtName.Text " " + DateTime.Now
I only want DateTime.Now to be a different size and colour. Is this possible? Instead of a label I need to display it in a listBox. My new code: listBox1.Items.Add(txtName.Text " " + DateTime.Now)
Here, I want to replace two-line digits in bold(0110 0001) with a different sequence as the program scans the text line by line. But two things complicate the task:
1. the comma lines should be ignored, but
2. they also should stay intact after changing the digits.
Is there a more elegant way to structure the following code, which takes a comma delimited string containing certain values in specific positions and assigns the values to the properties of an object?[code]...
Here's the problem, going back to an earlier project - I have a block of 'settings' text in TextBox3, and need to search my XML document for that block - I then need to ADD a settings block from TextBox5 AFTER the found settings block, without having the format messed up - This is the 'block' I am trying to search for:
[Code]...
Is this even possible? I've tried a few different coding procedures, but I can only seem to search for a single string part [ One line ], and the <SettingEntry> tag is used for every line in the XML...
I have a application which reads from ini at startup, What i want is a vb code that will block the user from opening the ini file manually, program could be running as service eg: C:config.ini. program should block the user from opening the file.
Is there any other way to download a file without the entire program freezing? whenever i call my.computer.network.downloadfile the VB stops furthering to the next code allowing my game to run choppily.
im using visual basic 2008 and a made a fully functional webbrowser useing the control. i have a huge list of ad servers and every different one is separated by an enter. i need a way for the program to read the file and block ads from loading.

First of all: is it a problem that I have that Try/Catch/Finally block inside of a SyncLock?
Second of all: suppose this code runs, on an event, potentially many times within a small timeframe--say, ten times in one second. Is it OK to have it SyncLock like this, or would it make more sense to have it add a line to a Queue, and then write all the lines from the Queue to the file on a timer that goes off, say, every second?
I have a block of HTML which I want to write to a file. It contains about 30 lines and it's difficult to escape all the double-quotes in individual WriteLine statements. In PERL, I can do something like the following to write inline HTML and print everything upto <<OUTFILE to outfile as-is, is that possible in VB .Net 2008?
print <OUTFILE <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD><TITLE>GSC Signature</TITLE> <META content="text/html; charset=windows-1252" http-equiv=Content-Type> <META name=GENERATOR content="MSHTML 9.00.7930.16406"></HEAD> <BODY><<OUTFILE
I could save the HTML in a template file and copy it into a new file each time, but that's not very flexible.
I have an application that opens a bunch of Excel files in the background and saves them as pdf files (amoung other functions) and when accessing these Excel files on a shared drive I get a lot of quick pop ups that look like they say "Downloading..." something or other (to hard to get a screenshot) they also have a progress bar. I was wondring if there was a way for me to stop them from displaying.
i have this error in the line of with xl.active......Object variable or With block variable not set.
Dim xl As Object xl = CreateObject("Excel.Application") With xl.ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _ "TEXT;C:Documents and SettingsUserDesktop429MEDICA2.TXT", _ Destination:=xl.Range("$A$1"))
i need to read binary file and in this file found the string and replace it with other one and save the file afterwords. I found many example to read binary, but to find and replace is for me mistery.

I Ported this code from a code project article in c# called Nscript
heres the code
Base App Imports System Imports System.IO Imports System.Resources
[code]....
Okay Now I only get two errors (I dont know how to solve them)
Error3Class 'BaseApp' must implement 'Sub OnCompilerError(errors() As CompilerError)' for interface 'IScriptManagerCallback'.
And
Error4Class 'ScriptManager' must implement 'Sub CompileAndExecuteFile(file As String, args() As String, callback As IScriptManagerCallback)' for interface 'IScriptManager'.
But What I would also Like to know (as well as how to fix the errors), is would the code work?
i have a string with the value = "/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/Music/" i need to read the next 13 letter after this string in a text file i am also using a loop to do this multiple times
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim Header As String = "/var/mobile/Media/iTunes_Control/Music/"
I am using System.IO.FIle.ReadAllText() to get the contents of some template files that I created for email content. Then I want to do a Replace on certain tokens within the files so I can add dynamic content to the template.Here is the code I have, it seems to me like it should work just fine...
Dim confirmUrl As String = Request.ApplicationPath & "?v=" & reg.AuthKey Dim text As String = IO.File.ReadAllText( _ ConfigurationManager.AppSettings("sign_up_confirm_email_text").Replace("~", _
[code].....
For some reason I cannot get the %%LINK%% and %%NAME%% Replace() calls to work properly. I checked to see if it was encoding-related, so I made each file UTF-8. And also used the forced encoding overload of ReadAllText(String, Encoding) and still no dice.
trying to find a decent answer for my question; I do have a utf8 file which I (down)load, manipulate and wanting to save back again.The result always is that the file I produce is not in utf8 format;
Dim fs2 As New FileStream("c: est.dat", FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write, FileShare.None) Dim w As New BinaryWriter(fs2, Encoding.UTF8)
I've got an application that passes commands to a terminal window and saves all the output to a text file Here is one of the commands my application passes to the terminal
this along with a whole bunch of other text is saved to a text file...my question is how do I find the sting "HostA has address Y.Y.Y.Y" in that text file and then extract the IP address and assign it as a string variable?
The reason I ask is that I want to print, at run-time, a file in the application's resources, like this:
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim printProcess As New Process printProcess.StartInfo.FileName = "C:UsersGeoffrey van WykDocumentsCountdown_Timer_Help.rtf" ' printProcess.StartInfo.FileName = My.Resources.Countdown_Timer_Help printProcess.StartInfo.Verb = "Print" printProcess.Start() End Sub
