Search A Specified Directory And All Sub Directories For All Files That Have The Specified File Extension?

Dec 30, 2011

i have been trying to search a specified directory and all sub directories for all files that have the specified file extension. However the inbuilt command is useless as it errors up and dies if you dont have access to a directory.

Private Function dirSearch(ByVal path As String, Optional ByVal searchpattern As String = ".exe") As String()
Dim di As New DirectoryInfo(path)
Dim fi As FileInfo

[code]......

However i get an "System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object." when i try to access the data stored inside the filelist string array.

Temporarily Elevate The Privilege Of VB Code?

Mar 8, 2009

My VB program creates a file on a NAS drive via the SaveFileDialog component in a different user context than the person launching it.It works because the person who runs my ClickOnce deployed program uses RunAs from the program's exe (thereby bypassing the ClickOnce pre processor). The problem is that the program extensively supports drag and drop which doesn't work between the User and RunAs contexts.

The program is a VB 2008 Express Windows Forms Application running on XP workstations with peer-to-peer (workgroup) access control. i need to execute only the SaveFileDialog component with impersonation via the user account we've been using with RunAs. Something along the lines of what RunWithElevatedPrivileges accomplishes in SharePoint Services. This is not happening in a hostile security environment - so, the solution needn't be impregnable.

Convert Elevated Privilege Code From C# To Use With SharePoint?

I have built a method to pull some UserProfile information out of SharePoint. It works great in C#, but I can't figure out how to convert one part of it to VB.NET. I'm not that great at VB but usually the basic code converters online get me past any problem I have.

The problem is concerning the SPSecurity.RunWithEleveatedPrivilages section below. Does any one know how to implement the delegate code in VB?

Select A Directory And Move Files From The Directory

I am going to need to create a windows form for work that we can connect to a database table, select a directory and move files from the directory that are in the table and move to another folder. The directory will have sub directories that I need to search for the file name and move. I would like to have the table hold the file name (or path) and move all files that are in the database. Process Files By Extension??

Sep 14, 2010

I have a program that processes files in a special subdirectory and the program processes the files based upon the "Type", i.e., "Text Document". If an application, such as a text editor, installed onto the system, the "Type" may change to suit that application. For example, I recently had one change the type from "TXT File" to "UltraEdit Document (.txt}". Yes, the squirrely brace was on the end, don't know why. Well, after this app was installed, my program found no files of "TXT File" type to process even though the subdirectory was full of filename.txt files.

So, how can I get the code to look at the file extension, not the Type? A few lines of the code are shown:
Private fsFile As Scripting.File

Reconcile A List Of Files And A Directory With Subfolders/files To Find Changes?

Jun 3, 2010

I have a SQL Server table with a list of files (path + filename), and a folder with multiple layers and files in each layer. I'm looking for a way to reconcile the two without having to process the list twice. Currently, I'm doing this:

For Each f as FileInfo In FileListFromDatabase
If f.Exists is False, mark it as deleted in the database
Next

[Code]....

Is there a better way to do this? I'd like to avoid converting all the matching files (of which most will be) to FileInfo objects twice. Since I'm a T-SQL developer first, I'm picturing something like an OUTER JOIN of the two lists where they don't match. Something LINQ-ish?
