Robocopy Looking In The Wrong Source Directory When Bat File Is Run As Administrator?
May 8, 2010
I have problems with my *.bat file when it is run as administrator on windows 7 with UAC enabled. The problem is that the robocopy command is looking in the wrong directory for the source files. The bat file and a number of folders are placed in the same temporary directory somewhere on a computer and the bat file is supposed to copy all files from one of those folders to a certain folder in the C:Program files....... directory structure.Example string:
I'm trying to get the last time the directory was updated (written to), and if it's later than the date i have stored i want to process that directory for new/changed information. The problem I'm having is that the Directory.GetLastWriteTime(path) seems to only get updated with creating and deletion of files.when a user just updates an existing file (for example a text document) the GetLastWriteTime remains the same for the directory even though the modified time of the text file has changed.
I don't want to itterate through the files in the directory, is there any reason the directory last write time does not get updated when modifying an existing file?
Here at work we are looking at different applications to sync data from remote servers to a local server, but each application we try results in some sort of problem which makes the apps useless to us. I thus would like to program Robocopy to do the data sync, but before I start from scratch, I'd like to ask if anyone knows of an existing VB.Net app which runs Robocopy to do the same thing.
Here are my expectations:
* The code needs to run even when the server is not logged on (as a service or scheduled task).* I need to have a log file created for each run of Robocopy saved using the following naming convention "yyyymmdd_<Parent_Folder_Name>"* I need to keep "X" number of log files* I need to prune "X" day/month old log files (to save disk space)* My app needs to run at specific intervals* My app needs to email me either when the copy completes successfully or not (user-selectable)* My app should parse the current log file for errors only and display them to the user saving the user the time required to search for the errors.* My app needs to also record filesystem ACLs.
I tried google and forum searches and although there is a lot of info and code, they all come up with similar code and not really what I'm looking for and I start to doubt that it's possible....I think it should, but I'm lost. I want to start Robocopy with a button on a form and then see the output in the textbox, just the same as you would see when you would run it from the command prompt. So in realtime, because if I don't see this, it's just like the program is hanging, which it isn't. It's just copying larger files over and waits until it's finished of course Here is the code I have so far (I tried multiple ways):
i currently have a project that needs to edit a few files in the startuppath folder. on a non administrator o.s., if my app. is installed in ( c:program filesmy crappy little app ), i cannot write to those files. in win7, it does not even ask for administrator approval, just the option to save to my documents.. this can be quite a hassle to work with, specially on closing the app, since i have quite a few files that need to be updated.
How do you get the directory of the source code at run-time?
I want to 'hang' some data directories below the source code directory, but have multiple copies of the source code directory for test, release, and development.
I am developing an Excel workbook at work and I've got a problem. I'd like to save information entered in the workbook and save it in another one (called List, for example purposes), using a macro. The problem is that the file in which I want to save the information is located on a server. When people open List.xls, it's Read Only. So, when my macro executes, it opens a Read Only workbook...I'd like to do "Open As", just like you could do by right-clicking on any file in Windows XP. The result would be that the macro would log on as administrator only to open List.xls, write in it and save it under the same name.
I have a program I am making in VB.NET [ 2010 ], and I can get the BAT file I want to run start, but it's not in 'Elevated Mode' - Is there a way to accomplish this easily? This is the code I have to run the BAT file, which needs to be 'Run as Administrator':
I've got a DataGridview I want to remove columns from as it greatly increases performance when I format the DGV. The first time I remove columns in a loop (using the removeat) property, everythings fine. But when I try to remove more columns in another loop, it appears to remove the wrong columns and displays the wrong data. In other words, it displays the wrong data and headers; and the columns it does show has headers and cells that don't match.
What is the best way to keep my source code separate to the output from compilation? I can change the "Build output path", but I am still getting files created in the "obj" directory whenever I compile. I want to have a directory tree that only contains source code.David Streeter
I don't know what this is called so I've struggled to find an answer from google but I have a vague memory of it from t'old days.I've sub-classed (* see below) about 8 framework controls, overriden some properties and added some functionality into each one.The changes I have made are identical in every case. If I make a change, I have to go through each class and apply the same change there.I was hoping there may be a keyword such as <IncludeSourcefile "common.vb> that I can put into each class.
(* note) I use the term sub-classed but I don't know if that's the correct terminology. I've also seen it used for call-backs. Is sub-classed the correct term to use?
I'm creating a simple .NET console application where I want to save a file in a folder that's part of the root project, like so: SolutionName.ProjectNameTestData. I want to put test.xml into the TestData folder. However, when I go to save my XDocument, it saves it to SolutionName.ProjectNameinx86Debug Console est.xml.
copying the file from one Directory to another directory by create the folder if that folder is not exists in destination directory.Example:
Source path: C: emp est1.txt destination path: C:Data if C:Data doesn't contains "temp" or "test" folder, it should create the folder before copy the 1.txt.[code]....
I'll tell you what I'd like to do which is to create a directory listing of every file inside a specified directory and then use a loop to upload each file in this directory to a remote folder via FTP.
I am attempting to compare two directory trees. I have the program map the network drive and copy a directory. I need it to verify that the files copied successfully by comparing the source to the destination. If comparison returns equal then perform action1, if comparison returns unequal then perform action2.
It's possible to modify the "run as administrator" attribute in a file?I don't need this for my .exe, i need to modify external files, for example I need to set "run as administrator" by default in "c:file.exe"
I have some problem with copying the file from one Directory to another directory by create the folder if that folder is not exists in destination directory.
ive been trying to use System.Security.Cryptography to encrypt and decrypt a file but its not working for me
this code
Private Sub EncryptFile(ByVal sInputFilename As String, ByVal sOutputFilename As String, ByVal sKey As String) Dim fsInput As New FileStream(sInputFilename, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read) Dim fsEncrypted As New FileStream(sOutputFilename, FileMode.Create, FileAccess.Write) Dim DES As New DESCryptoServiceProvider()
In my program I allow the user to copy a file from one folder to another. If the file already exists in the target folder I want it to be overwritten.
All that works just fine - I'm not asking how to copy files.
But here's an example
Source file is:-
\SomeMachinesomeFolderfile.xyz
Target is:-
P:file.xyz
This might at first look like two separate files but in this case P: is mapped to \SomeMachinesomeFolder so the source and the target are actually the same file and the file copy will obviously fail.
Of course I want it to fail but my problem is that the windows generic error message seen by the user is not very helpful. It says something simple like "... can't be copied because it's busy". If the user isn't very bright he doesn't realize he's selected the same file both as source and target and he doesn't understand why it's busy.
What I want to do is detect in advance that the source and the target are the same file and display a more meaningful message to the user and not even bother trying to copy.
i just want to ask how can i save the file location or directory of a file in mysql without deleting its slashes...i tried to save it directly.. for example: the original directory is c:folderimg.jpg and when i checked it on mysql it is save as c:folderimg.jpg
Anyways, i have coded a video downloaded and i want to include a converter as a separate exe file. But obviously people may have different file directories so a simple piece of code i have used won't work. This is what i have: Also where would i place the exe file?
I want to have an icon / image of a folder on my form and I want it to operate just the same as a desktop shortcut to a directory does. If clicked, it opens directory, if file / folder is dropped onto it it sends those to the specified directory.I am however going to need to use something like this:[code]
