What is the best way to keep my source code separate to the output from compilation? I can change the "Build output path", but I am still getting files created in the "obj" directory whenever I compile. I want to have a directory tree that only contains source code.David Streeter

I need to out each line of text to a seperate textbox. or label. Im not sure about a string. Can a string hold a value like, "192.168.1.1 2302"? If so, then how would i output it to a string. If not, textbox or label please. Please keep it simple as possible, since I will probably be needing to repeat this process 500 times, like, a different string for each line, i will have a lot of lines. Dont care about the textbox limit, as long as all the lines are outputted to each textbox.[code]

VS sets your project up with the default directory structure: ...indebug which also seems to contain some other files besides your dll (I assume these are related to the debug symbols, etc).So how do you set it up to copy your dll to another directory when debugging?Right now, I'm having to manually copy the built dll with every run and that's getting to be a bit annoying.I'm using VS 2008?
View 11 RepliesI don't know what this is called so I've struggled to find an answer from google but I have a vague memory of it from t'old days.I've sub-classed (* see below) about 8 framework controls, overriden some properties and added some functionality into each one.The changes I have made are identical in every case. If I make a change, I have to go through each class and apply the same change there.I was hoping there may be a keyword such as <IncludeSourcefile "common.vb> that I can put into each class.
(* note) I use the term sub-classed but I don't know if that's the correct terminology. I've also seen it used for call-backs. Is sub-classed the correct term to use?

I've got a couple of drop down lists for languages. I bind them to a language list that comes from a query. Then the fields are also bound to the row in the DB they relate to. I have several panels with the language drop down - each "tied" to a different table in my DB. When I call up different records on the same panel the drop downs immediately "set to the position" of that rows language in the list. But when I call up another panel - tied to another database table - I see that language in the drop down.

I'm making a GUI for a console application. I want it to save the file to /data/file.zip to anywhere the .exe is. Process.Start(Form2.TextBox1.Text, "get /folder/file.zip C:patht.zip") So if my application is in C:appmyapp.exe the output file would be in C:appdatafile.zip etc.
View 4 RepliesI have SQLdb column elements from one table that are selected from another table. This is achieved through the use of binding a combobox to the selectable entries and applying that entries ID to the initiating table column When I add multiple combo boxes, for multiple columns, the data selected propagates across all the combo boxes I have. They all use the same binding source. It seems to me the only way out of this is to create a bunch of binding sources, essentially one for each control. I have tested this and it appears to work, but is there another, less cluttered way of ensuring that the comboboxes, while bound to the same binding source, are not bound to one another?

I'm looking at a website using Internet Explorer and Firefox. In each browser I select view source and see the website's URL in the links. These links were concatenated together using HttpContext.Current.Request.Url.Host in the code behind. However, when I use netcat or Burp Suite v1.3.03, looking at the same links I see the servername instead of the website's URL.
My question is - Why does view source in the browser display different links in the page source than what netcat or Burp Suite outputs? Is the browser rewriting stuff? My thought to correct is to have a web.config setting which is used to create the links. Next question - Does anyone know of a configuration change to make to IIS to return the URL instead of the server name or a .NET function that I should be calling instead to get the URL that the website is running as.
When adding resources into my project. what difference it makes if I choose to copy them to the output directory?
View 4 RepliesI have problems with my *.bat file when it is run as administrator on windows 7 with UAC enabled. The problem is that the robocopy command is looking in the wrong directory for the source files. The bat file and a number of folders are placed in the same temporary directory somewhere on a computer and the bat file is supposed to copy all files from one of those folders to a certain folder in the C:Program files....... directory structure.Example string:

View 5 RepliesI have 2 seperate web services. They both run on the same machine.One of the functions is the same between the 2 web services. It is a huge function and i hate having to repeat code. Is there any way to share the code between the 2 services other than having one service request the function from the other service? I'm a bit hesitant doing it that way because im worried about performance. It would mean for each request into service A i'd need to create a service B instance and call it.

I am creating an IDE for a game script with similar functionality as the Visual Studio IDE (at least, some of it). The game script consist of code that looks visually a bit like C code. It uses braces to define the start and end of a 'class' and uses nested braces to define the start and end of an 'event' in a class.
What I want finally is to have two Comboboxes above the text editor, one that lists each Class and the other listing each Event. The comboboxes should also show the Class and Event that the caret is currently in, just like in Visual Studio.I have attached an example of such a script (you can open it with Notepad).However, here is a short example where you can also see how I "defined" classes and events:

As you can see, the classes are the 'names' of each block of code, defined by matching braces { }. The events are the names of each nested block of code, also defined by matching braces { } but inside a class. There is only one level of nesting.As you can also see, the layout can follow the standard C-style layout, or a slightly different layout (using the opening brace on the same line as the class/event name), or even a completely chaotic mess. As long as the braces match correctly, the code is valid.So in short, the large blocks are classes, while the nested blocks are events.
What I want to do, is parse an entire script, and store all the Classes (and eventually, also all the Events, but let's forget about them for now). I want to store the Class name, start position (defined as the start index of the name), end position (defined as the index of the closing brace) and the full text (defined as the text between start and end position, so including the name).

The code works basically by finding every first opening brace (the opening brace of each CLASS, not event), and then loops through the class (using a brace counter to keep track of the nested braces) until it found the last closing brace. It then stores the name, start, end and fulltext in a new clsClass and adds it to the list to return.
