VS 2010 Code To Run On Remote Server As Administrator?
Jun 21, 2011
I need to write an app that will stop and restart a service on a domain controller. The app needs to be usable by all domain users without making them run as.
Therefore, I want to have the administrators login details within the app itself (I will encrypt them).
How do I get my app to run something on the server as administrator though?

I'm having an issue here with making a WMI connection to a remote machine using specified administrator credentials.I have the WMI code inside a function, I pass it the computer's name and it returns the WMI information that I am requesting as a string (or in this particular case, an integer) from the remote machine. I'm positive it works, and returns the information I need using specified admin username/password. NOW, the issue I am having is related to (it seems) calling this function from a backgroundworker. [code] "Value does not fall within the expected range." I literally have no clue why this would throw that exception, yet when I call this function from lets say just a random button on my form, it works beautifully. The key here is that I need my WMI requests/processing to run in the background.

I have an issue with my code. The application interacts with a MySQL database on a remote server, I have access to this server. When my app is running the insert into code I m getting this error: "Conversion from string "INSERT INTO phpvms_fsspireps(pil" to type 'Integer' is not valid."
The variable which holds the Inser Into string, during break point debug gives me this: ""INSERT INTO phpvms_fsspireps(pilotid, code, flightnum, depicao, arricao, route, route_details, distance, aircraft, flighttime, flighttime_stamp, landingrate, submitdate, accepted, log, load, fuelused, expenselist, source,

And this is my code.
Dim conn As MySqlConnection
Dim cnString As String
cnString = My.Settings.constr

the DB spec:

I've been struggling for hours now to get some working code to list the share permissions of a remote share. I've got WMI code which uses win32_share which lists the shares and path and it works great. I"m now trying to add in a routine to get the share permissions as well.
I've searched just about every site for some sample code and can only find some C# (I think) code.

I am creating a server-client type application that allows the network administrator to perform tasks on remote computers by using TCP sockets (TCPClient and TCPListener).The server application needs to send out a message to a client machine (with client application installed) and from this, the client application will send back the required data (i.e. system info, task progress etc). This part works fine.However, I am having trouble in getting the client application to constantly listen for an information request in the background. It should be listening whenever the application is running. What I want to do is to have an event handler which, when a message comes through, acts upon the instructions to send the relevant information back. The server does not need to constantly listen for data, as it will only receive data after it has sent a request.

i currently have a project that needs to edit a few files in the startuppath folder. on a non administrator o.s., if my app. is installed in ( c:program filesmy crappy little app ), i cannot write to those files. in win7, it does not even ask for administrator approval, just the option to save to my documents.. this can be quite a hassle to work with, specially on closing the app, since i have quite a few files that need to be updated.

I have this problem where is wont let me create and files through the command prompt via echo xxx> C:xxx in Visual Basic. If I do it sepoaratly and run the command prompt as admin (This is not using vb at all) then it will work. I have tried putting my vb app to require previlidges at both levels at different times, not at once, and I still got the same thing.So is there a way I can use the comman prompt through vb, but also making the command prompt being an admin without turning off UAC?The code that will not work is this.
Shell(Environ$("Comspec") & " /c """ & WDir & "ToolsMediaInfoMediaInfo.exe"" --output=xml """ & WDir & "ToolsMediaInfoMediaInfo.xml""")

I know I can set the program to require administrator privileges in the manifest file.However, I don't need the whole program to have these privileges.
I only need admin when I want to write to the registry (this doesn't happen often).9 out of 10 times when the program runs it doesn't need to write to the registry, so only when I click on a specific button the box where the user can choose wether or not to grant admin to the program should show.

My VB.net framework 4 windows program work fine for the users on Windows XP machines if they are in the local Administrator Group. I would like to setup this click once application to run as an administrator so the user doesn't need to be in the Administrator group. The program is reading the"C:Documents and Settings" & User & "Local SettingsTemp" folder looking for files with extension like "emf", "tmp" and "htm" and then deleting the files if they are older than 24 hours. We have a third party application that adds these file and doesn't delete them so I need the users to run this cleanup program.

First off, my apologies for being a complete Newb! I have a SQL Express database that I use quite successfully to track my investments in several accounts. I built it myself, it's quite functional, and Im happy with it. The problem is that there are multiple account tables and updating them can be tedious in SQL Server, if multiple purchases and sales in multiple accounts have occurred in a month. Tedium can lead to errors¦

I've found a few examples of using vb.net to access an sql database, so far none of them have worked . They all involve using DataReaders. Maybe its the fact that the sql db is not on the same machine as the application.I was just wondering if anyone had a more comprehensive example of using VB.NET to access a remote sql server.
EDIT:I've received a few helpful comments an replies already. So far my connection string looks like:
"server=sqlblah.myhost.com;uid=myuser;pwd=pass;database=testdb"
Probably also good to mention their is no editing of the tables a this point, just reading.

How can I connect to a database using sql server 2000 and stored in another PC with vb net (still in 1 LAN)?So that PC only stores the database, and another PC store the user interface and business logic.Is it related to the connection strings, on the datasource, we just put the IP address for that remote sql server?

I want to understand the concept of connecting to a remote PC or server. I'm working on an app that will connect to a remote server. Read a value from a registry key and then display the results in a text box. It will also connect and search for a specific log file on a server. I understand how to read the files. I'm just not sure how to connect to a machine remotely if I have valid credentials. There seems to be sever ways to accomplish this. I want the most efficient way using vb2008.

I'm been learning about connection strina I have been able to succesfully connect to a sql database stored locally on my Pc.The next logical step would be to connect to a database stored on a remote server. My question is does anyone of a sql database ( or any other type of database ) which can be openly accessed by the general public. Does anyone know if a web hosting service would allow me to remotely connect to a sql database ? Could I for instance upload my database onto a web hosting service and try connect to a remote database that way

how to send a log using vb.net console app to a external server? I have the application sitting in a store oulet, then I need this application to send over a log file.
I have a couple of ideas.. one is using a tcp listener and sender, then the listener logs it over in the server.
Another is using a ftp send.
but I would prefer it to be coded in the program itself.
