Shut Down Tray Application Using UI

May 26, 2011

I have a multi-threaded tray application. I basically need it to shut down. I do some loops to close down threads, and that does work well. However, if message boxes are open in the UI, this usually prevents shut down. I tried End and Environment.Exit. Thoughts?

Give The Form A Command When User Switches To Another Application?

Apr 20, 2009

let's say i have this application running, preset size. and there are other applications, like, firefox, vb, etc. in the background where i can click on them to bring them to front and use. now, when that's done, i'd like my application to minimize by it's self instead of just becoming a application that got sent to the back of another one.. the minimize is just to get me started, since i'll probably resize it to a button or so.just a squirrel looking for my nut...

Give Prompt When User Clicked The X To Close Application/Window?

Apr 16, 2011

I know how to add an exit button with a prompt. However, I do not have the slightest cluse as to how I can add this same functionality to the window so that if the user clicks the X in the upper right corner, there is a prompt message confirming the user needs to exit.I added a form closing event but getting wrong results, the form closes if I click no and message window does not leave when I click yes to stay.

Code:

Private Sub frmTest_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
If (MessageBox.Show("Are you sure you want to exit?", "Close Form", _
MessageBoxButtons.YesNo, MessageBoxIcon.Question) = _

The only thing that happens, is that the program looses focus, then several more instances of the program is created. Are there some particular restrictions in Windows 7 that prevents shutting down the computer?

Attempted To Read Or Write Protected Memory / Often An Indication That Other Memory Is Corrupt

May 22, 2007

Im getting a problem with one of my programs I have made in visual basic.NET where it gives me a memory error when i debug the program in the IDE. the exact error is this: "Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt". My program basically has a few forms with text fields on that get their text values from an access database on the same hard drive. Im wondering if im doing something wrong because my program just seems to eat up memory whenever it does anything. For example I have one form that has a combobox on it and when you change the drop down list selection it retreives a few strings from the database and puts them into the relevant text boxes, if you keep changing the selection then the memory usage (in task manager) just keeps going up and up. occasionally I get the error mentioned above when debugging but in my built version of the program it throws an exception everytime the memory usage gets past 49K.

Also I noticed when debugging in the "immediate window" frame I get the following message often:A first chance exception of type 'System. Invalid OperationException' occurred in System.Data.dll...Do I need to somehow be "releasing" the memory that is used to gather data once it becomes redundant?

2008 Express Edition: Attempted To Read Or Write Protected Memory, This Is Often An Indication That Other Memory Is Corrupt?

May 27, 2009

I cannot use Visual Basic 2008 at all. When I go to "new project" and choose "Windows Form Application" I get this error.I have tried multiple uninstall/reinstall with no result.A microsoft reply to this suggested that I needed: " .NET Framework 2.0 Service Pack 1 " I checked, and I did not have the .netframework 2.0 service Pack 1.
When I tried to download and install the above from Microsoft.com, the istaller said that "it was not allowsed" and I was not able to install the service pack 1.

I tried Uninstalling net framework 3.5, 3.0, 2.0 and then reinstalling .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1; then reinstalling Visual basic 2008 express edition. At the reinstall of Visual basic 2008, .netframework 2.0 sevice pack 1 is unistalled by .net framework service pack 2.When I check the foruims for simiar problems, the formus are mostly for Visual basic 5.0, or other programs that I do not have.

Here is the programs I have installed:

Operating system: Windows XP
Microsoft .net framework 1.1
Microsoft .NET framwork 1.1 Hotfix(KB928366)
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 Service Pack 2

[code]....

All the security updates and hotfixes for Widows XP.

Command Line Shut Down Script?

Jun 5, 2011

I'm trying to do a little project with an embedded board and XP embedded OS to control a little machine. The board will have no monitor, so I need a little routine that when a key is pressed on the keyboard, it invokes a proper Windows shutdown.I want to have the letter "Z" trigger the action. I've found that the sequence I want to run is ultimately this

Code:
SHUTDOWN -s -t 01

I'll put the routine in the start folder so that it's always in the background waiting for "Z", but is there anything else that has to be done since the machine controller software will be the "active" program?

Shut Down The Computer When System Is Locked?

Nov 12, 2009

I've noticed that a few download management programs do this, like uTorrent for example, where you can set it to shut down the system when the download(s) complete and I would like to implement this in my app as well.Right now I'm usingProcess.Start("shutdown.exe", "-s -t 05")which works fine if the user is logged in, but my home computer has the screen saver set to lock the computer in which all my app does is exit but the system doesn't shut down like it does when it's logged in.

Forms :: Code To Halt Windows Shut Down Or Log Off?

Sep 16, 2009

I work in IT in a firm that are rolling out a time management application on all PCs. In order to clock in/out a user must log into the application and click clock in/out. I want to build a very simple application that when a user goes to shut down or log out of their PC, a windows form will pop up asking them if they they want to clock out of the time management software (a reminder if they have forgotten to clock out and are heading home). On the form there will be two buttons, 'yes' and 'no'. If they click yes, the system shutdown or log off will be halted and the time management software application will open automatically. If they click no, the shutdown/logoff will proceed as normal. I just need to know what i need to do to get the system shutdown/logoff to stop until either button is pressed and to stop totally if the 'yes' button is pressed. I am able to get the Time Management software to run on a button click but just not able to halt the shutdown or logoff?
