Give Prompt When User Clicked The X To Close Application/Window?
Apr 16, 2011
I know how to add an exit button with a prompt. However, I do not have the slightest cluse as to how I can add this same functionality to the window so that if the user clicks the X in the upper right corner, there is a prompt message confirming the user needs to exit.I added a form closing event but getting wrong results, the form closes if I click no and message window does not leave when I click yes to stay.
Code:
Private Sub frmTest_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
If (MessageBox.Show("Are you sure you want to exit?", "Close Form", _
MessageBoxButtons.YesNo, MessageBoxIcon.Question) = _
[code]....

Ive been trying to figure out what report I should use as it appears I have crystal reports built in and also have Microsoft Report Viewer in this VB 2008.What I need to do is give the user a list of names and when a ame gets clicked it will show all the details in a report.I have loaded a ListView Control with the names from my database and this is letting the user pick a report so I can get the name and ID number of the record to show this way and just need to figure out how to get that record onto a report and what report to use?Ive done similar in VB6 but have never looked at .Net. The data is comming from an access database.

I have a backup script i made in VB. part of the code im having trouble with:
HTML
code:
Now this code is executed when a button is clicked, if the folder does exists, it displays a message and continues the backup. however if it does not it displays displays "does not exist box" then i want the application to close.
I played around with the application.exit commands but it seems like the code just skips over it, and continues to try and backup the data, then errors out. how do i make the application close, if the dir does not exist?

let's say i have this application running, preset size. and there are other applications, like, firefox, vb, etc. in the background where i can click on them to bring them to front and use. now, when that's done, i'd like my application to minimize by it's self instead of just becoming a application that got sent to the back of another one.. the minimize is just to get me started, since i'll probably resize it to a button or so.just a squirrel looking for my nut...

this maybe an easy one for mos of you! I have a windows that is displayed as full screenThe window contains a series of images (movie posters) and the name below it. When you user clicks on a movie poster a new window appears (smaller window) in the middle of the screen.I want to force the user to close close on the small window before procedding. Currently if the user clicks outside the small window the full screen window comes to the front thus hiding the smaller window.

I have a storedprocedure as a datasource for my crystal report (14) and would like the report to define one of the parameters internally (in the report definition), When I set the default of the parameter to True (its a bit in tsql) and set it not to prompt it still does.
I don't want user intervention here, and I have my viewer as a dialog (so they couldnt enter it even if they wanted to).

I am looking to prompt the user to save data when they close a form window in a winforms application. I can't figure out how to trigger the prompt to the user, should they click the red box at the top right corner of the form.
My application currently has a boolean flag, that is set to True on textchanged event. So I will only need to check for the boolean value in whatever event is trigger by the red box.

I'm in the process of converting a VB6.0 application to VB.Net (2008 Express). I have a MDI parent form, I'll call mdiBackground, and 4 MDI child forms, frmStatus, frmShow, frmQwerty, and frmSentence. The layout is as follows:mdibackground - has the menus at top and is a container for the child forms.frmSentence - appears at the top frmShow & frmQwerty - appear at the left and when one is closed the other one is in the same position.frmStatus - appears at the right, it has buttons which control when frmShow and frmQwerty are to appear I have a couple of regular forms that act as dialog forms. The Me.Close() works fine on these.

The problem: A dialog's FormClosing() event is raised if it's a child, ie it's Owner property is set to the parent form, but NOT if it's a child-of-a-child. So closing the main form does not call the closing event on any grandchildren dialogs.
The Details: A dialog prompts to "Save Changes?", with YesNoCancel buttons, in the FormClosing() event. Clicking Cancel keeps the dialog open, ie cancel closing.
Private Sub Dialog_FormClosing(...) Handles Me.FormClosing
If MessageBox.Show("Save Changes?", YesNoCancel) = No Then
e.Cancel = True
[Code].....
Then the FormClosing() event on the child does not raise, if the top-most parent is closed.
Is this a know design limitation in the framework? Is there anything I should consider before I start hacking a nasty solution for this?

How to capture when a user switched application windows. Basically what i want to do is for example is when EVER a user works inside Microsoft Word i want the CAP lock to be turned on. When they leave Microsoft word's app window and select a new app the CAPS button would turn off. Then when they return back to Word caps turns back on. I have code I found in another post on how to turn CAPS on, now i just don't now how to automatically capture application switches running all the time. My idea is to create a small app that can be minimized to the system tray then let it run and capture all thE app changes.

give me a working example of "GetWindowRect" or something similar that would give me coordinates of a window by caption? The bold and underline won't come off so I'll just keep typing. I have googled and tried over 10 pieces of codes now. All of them are old and do not work. I found 1 tht works but thaat is for the topmost window only and I cannot make it work with caption.

I'm making an equation program and I want to have a main menu where the user can select an equation and then when one of the buttons is clicked, it closes the "selection" form and opens the appropriate form. For now I just have it set to show the proper form (for example, Form3.Show) but when I try to do something like Me.Close() after it, everything closes instead of keeping Form3 open.
