Apr 19, 2012

I am trying to prevent the User from proceeding if a specific text box is empty. All of the following lines of code SEEM TO work:

If txtTitle.text = "" Then.....
If txtTitle.Text = Nothing Then.....
If txtTitle.text = Nothing Then.....

The problem is, if the User enters a space (either accidentally or intentionally) all three of the above recognize the space as a valid entry.

Give Prompt When User Clicked The X To Close Application/Window?

Apr 16, 2011

I know how to add an exit button with a prompt. However, I do not have the slightest cluse as to how I can add this same functionality to the window so that if the user clicks the X in the upper right corner, there is a prompt message confirming the user needs to exit.I added a form closing event but getting wrong results, the form closes if I click no and message window does not leave when I click yes to stay.

Code:

Private Sub frmTest_FormClosing(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles Me.FormClosing
If (MessageBox.Show("Are you sure you want to exit?", "Close Form", _
MessageBoxButtons.YesNo, MessageBoxIcon.Question) = _

Force Balloontip To Close After A Few Seconds?

Nov 19, 2010

I'd like to show a NotifyIcon BalloonTip to the user and close it after two seconds. No matter what value I enter there it never closes, unless I keep moving the mouse and then it always closes after exactly 10 seconds. After doing a Google search I found this page. Here are two quotes from that page.

Quote:

The BallonTip timeout is only respected if the shell detects the "user presence" (i.e. mouse moves or keyboard input). If none of these happen (because you are watching the bubble) it will sit there indefinately. The logic behind this design being that users should not miss notifications when they are away from their machines. This is the "By Design" shell behavior.

Minimum and maximum timeout values are enforced by the operating system and are typically 10 and 30 seconds, respectively, however this can vary depending on the operating system. If you declare timeout value as less than minimum, the real timeout will be minimum; while the value more than maximum will be changed into maximum value. So timeout values that are too large or too small are adjusted to the appropriate minimum or maximum value.is there any way to force it to close after two seconds? My BalloonTips are shown based on the action of the user and not during some background process, so 10 seconds is way too long.

Asp.net - Force Close JQuery UI Accordion <DIV> With <asp:button>?

May 1, 2012

I'm using the jQuery UI accordion with two divs. The first displays a form and the second shows data based on the input of the form. How do I auto close the first div and display the second when a user clicks the submit button in the form? I'm assuming I need to use 'onclick' in the button, but I'm not sure how to tie it in with the accordion.

<asp:Content ID="HeaderContent" runat="server" ContentPlaceHolderID="HeadContent">

C# - Winform Application, Does Window Minimize Force Garbage Collection?

Feb 8, 2011

Here's the scenario, winforms application, monitoring via Task Manager Processes Tab.On initial launch spins up to ~61,000K (initial data grid and data loads)If I minimize the application, not touching or doing anything the Mem usage drops to 1,380K.When I restore the application is spins back up to only 5.8K

So my question is, does the minimize send some internal message to clean up resources since the application in question is not in focus? The first app I noticed this in happens to be VB.NET, but I've observed the same behavior in my main C# winform applications.

I'm programming a Minesweeper clone in Visual Studio 2010, with VB.NET, as a Windows Form Application, and I'm having trouble with the Game Won and Game Lost forms. When I show those forms, I want the game form to still be visible, so that the player can see where the mines were, but I don't want the game form to be enabled until the Game Won or Game Lost form is closed. Exactly like Windows Minesweeper does when you win or lose.

Force A Connection String To User Scope?

I've tried searching and haven't found much useful information on this, I know it has to be possible, but I'm not sure how. I've got an application that bi-directionally syncs with an SQL express 2008 server. right now, I've got a hardcoded sa user in my conection string, however one feature that was asked for was to audit every change made by end users into the database. To implement this, I've created a user login and password for each user that is going to use my app (8 of them) on my sql server, however I now need to change the connection string to include each users name in the string. This is what I've got setup so far:

Find The Handle Of The Child Window For The Yes Button In The User Account Control Window?

Mar 20, 2010

I am trying to find the handle of the child window for the Yes button in the User Account Control window so i can click it. This window has a structure with a few child windows with the same name.

Dim hwnd As IntPtr = FindWindow(Nothing, "User Account Control")
Dim hwnd2 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd, 0, "DirectUIHWND", vbNullString)
Dim hwnd3 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd2, 0, "CtrlNotifySink", vbNullString)
Dim hwnd4 As IntPtr = FindWindowEx(hwnd3, 0, "Button", "&Yes")

There are multiple CtrNotifySink with its own Button child window or other child windows. How do i search thru the different CtrNotifySink window to find the one that contain the Yes button so i can send a click to it? I do need to find it before i can send a click, right? because i try just sending it to the main window with sendmessage and nothing happen.I even try sending it directly to the handle found by spy++ of the yes button with bm click but nothing happen?

Force A User To Log Back Into To An Application If No Activity Is Detected For X Minutes?

Apr 22, 2010

I would like to try and implement a feature wherby once you have logged into an application (straightforward winforms application) and had your credetials verified the application would then force you to log on again if no activity had been detected in the application for a certain number of minutes. In essence I want to provide some extra security for those occasions when users get up and wander away from their machines for prolonged periods.

I have all the logic for logging into the application, it's just the checking for no activity over a given period and then forcing the user to log back in again that I'm not having much luck with.

Load Function And Display Output Before Proceeding

I am working on a small program which will check a web server if an update exists for a program. I am having it display to the user if it has a confirmed connection to the web (by pinging the website), and let them know if there are any updates available...

When it pings the web server, if the ping returns true, I'd like it to output "Confirmed Connection" before continuing executing the program. Is there a way I could do this..? I've tried numerous different things so far but it loads everything and displays everything all at once...I included a printscreen of what I'm trying to do.. I also pasted my code in. Ignore my sloppy name defining for the textboxes and such. I just made this up as a test until I get this figured out..

Force User To Select Minimum Two Check Boxes In Each Section In Gtrid View?

Jul 28, 2010

I have to select checkboxes besed on group column values. If you see below gridview, column 3 (GroupNo) has 1,1,1,1,2,2,2,2....etc (this column data is not static, will change based on page index. i.e PageIndex =2 may starts with 7,7,7,8,8,8,8,8,9,9,9 etc).In every sectio/Group User must and should select minimun 2 check boxes. so If user select only one check box we need to show a pop up message as " Please select One more check box in that particular section" If User skips the message and move to next section we have to show the same message. We have to force the user to select more than one checkbox in the same section. Mainly our intention is the check boxes whatever user selected in each section/Group belongs to one Category.

Close Pop-up Window Using Shdocvw?

Sep 22, 2011

I used to close pop-up windows in VBA using the following [code]...

You can see I have to check if the pop-up was opened and then close it.

I've migrated to VB.NET e2010 and it doesn't work.

I've found how to handle events and use the NewWindow to cancel the opening of the pop-up.

Unfortunately by cancelling instead of closing after it was opened, it causes a script error by JavaScript on the main page.
