I'd like to show a NotifyIcon BalloonTip to the user and close it after two seconds. No matter what value I enter there it never closes, unless I keep moving the mouse and then it always closes after exactly 10 seconds. After doing a Google search I found this page. Here are two quotes from that page.
Quote:
The BallonTip timeout is only respected if the shell detects the "user presence" (i.e. mouse moves or keyboard input). If none of these happen (because you are watching the bubble) it will sit there indefinately. The logic behind this design being that users should not miss notifications when they are away from their machines. This is the "By Design" shell behavior.
Minimum and maximum timeout values are enforced by the operating system and are typically 10 and 30 seconds, respectively, however this can vary depending on the operating system. If you declare timeout value as less than minimum, the real timeout will be minimum; while the value more than maximum will be changed into maximum value. So timeout values that are too large or too small are adjusted to the appropriate minimum or maximum value.is there any way to force it to close after two seconds? My BalloonTips are shown based on the action of the user and not during some background process, so 10 seconds is way too long.
I have a Tray icon in my application. I am showing the balloon tip for 20 seconds, when I am loading something in the background. But, if the background load gets completed early, say in 10 seconds, I would like to hide the balloon tip. Currently the only way to hide the balloon tip is to click the close icon in the balloon tip.
I have a windows form application that will open other forms, but will only display the forms for a few seconds (user configurable). I would normally do something like threading.thread.sleep(n), however when doing this the forms controls do not load only the white background shows, and I have also been reading that this isnt the best practice for what I am after as user input will not be actioned until the thread wakes up.
I have come across people using System.Timers.Timer(n), but I am struggling to get this to work for me, the form will only open and close straight away (you can only see a flash as the form opens then closes).
The code that I am using is:
Private Shared tmr As New System.Timers.Timer aForm.Show() tmr = New System.Timers.Timer(aSleep * 60 * 60)
[Code].....
This is all contained within a Private sub that passes the form and the defined run time.
My intention is to have the main application running from the task bar, which then calls one of the forms that will display for a defined period of time, close the form, then call another one of the forms.
Is any able to point me in the right direction for why the form opens then closes without seeing through the defined run time (I have been testing with 10 seconds), or is there a better way of doing what I am seeking?
I'm using the jQuery UI accordion with two divs. The first displays a form and the second shows data based on the input of the form. How do I auto close the first div and display the second when a user clicks the submit button in the form? I'm assuming I need to use 'onclick' in the button, but I'm not sure how to tie it in with the accordion.
this maybe an easy one for mos of you! I have a windows that is displayed as full screenThe window contains a series of images (movie posters) and the name below it. When you user clicks on a movie poster a new window appears (smaller window) in the middle of the screen.I want to force the user to close close on the small window before procedding. Currently if the user clicks outside the small window the full screen window comes to the front thus hiding the smaller window.
I have a console application that lists all files in a folder and then deletes them![code]This code lists the hole path to the file, but i only want that the filenames are shown (not the path)! And i also want the console window to close after 5 seconds. I have a backup script i made in VB. part of the code im having trouble with:
HTML
code:
Now this code is executed when a button is clicked, if the folder does exists, it displays a message and continues the backup. however if it does not it displays displays "does not exist box" then i want the application to close.
I played around with the application.exit commands but it seems like the code just skips over it, and continues to try and backup the data, then errors out. how do i make the application close, if the dir does not exist?
I have read a lot about the sluggishness of VS 2005 (VB in my case). Its generally very slow, especially if you get above 5'000 lines of code. However, I also experience a lot of freezes when trying to copy some lines of code. It will freeze for up to 10 seconds before I can continue working.
I am making a program that NEEDS to be password protected, so i made a textbox with a code so that when the user enters the right password it lets you in. But if the user/person enters a wrong password 2X it will kick you out. So is there a way to keep the
Im trying to make a custom splash screen , but i cant seem to get it to work. Im trying to display a welcome screen for 3 seconds then close and display form1 (main form).Heres my current code.
I want to convert seconds such as 254565443 seconds to hours, minutes, and seconds and thought if I could remove the decimal and the numbers behind it and not change the number in front of the decimal then it would work.
I'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.
Quick question - if I have a timer set to 5000 (5 seconds) and the code in the timer takes longer than 5 seconds to run because of sql stuff, will the timer wait until the code is done till it fires again?
I have set up a notify icon for my form. I want to make it so that when the user clicks the close button that it doesn't close the form it just takes it to shows the notify icon. They can exit the program from the notify icon. Can someone tell me how to keep it running?
In a program I'm working on, I want a "Loading..." dialog to close when it can't log in to a site using the username and password provided by the user. Basically, I have the code set up right because the function it is supposed to carry out when that occurs does work, but for some reason it ends up in some really weird stuff happening. In the Loading form, I have it set to do "Form1.Show()" and then "Me.Close()", assuming it would simply show the login form and then close the Loading form. However, when this happens, the Loading form closes, and then for only an instant Form1 shows, and then the Loading form shows and Form1 closes. This happens forever until I stop the debugging, and I can't seem to figure out why. Am I using the wrong method? What exactly does Me.Close() do anyways? All I want to do is close the form and open another
sometimes, when I use Form.close() when debugging my program, although the form is closed, the application is still running. I noticed this behaviour when using the msgbox function.
I have a situation where me.close() doesn't close the form. I have a form with a button with the code seen below. What happens when the button is clicked is the new form shows, but the original form(calling form) is still there. When I go into debug mode, I can see the me.close() execute, but nothing happens (calling form stays open). When I close the second form both forms close. If I comment out the call for the second form to open the first form closes without problem.
Private Sub cmdNext_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles cmdNext.Click Dim f As New frmOrder3
I have a main form that has a button with which a smaller form is shown. Think of the smaller form as the Find/Replace dialog in many applications, such as Notepad. It's important that the form is (what I believe is called) modal. What I mean is that it always stays on top of the main form. I ensure that by calling the Show method with "Me" as the owner argument. Whenever the small form loses focus it will not disappear into the background but stay visible (albeit out of focus). If you don't understand open up Notepad and have a look at the behavior of the Find/Replace dialog.
Here's my problem: instead of actually closing the form when the X is pressed, I want it to simply Hide itself, so its position and the state of any controls (checkboxes etc) is preserved automatically. To achieve this I simply cancel the FormClosing event and Hide it:
vb.net Private Sub Form2_FormClosing(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.FormClosingEventArgs) Handles MyBase.FormClosing
[code]....
To show the form, I use the following (note the (Me) to make the main form the owner of the form; this ensures that it remains visible even when it is out of focus):
vb.net Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Form2.Show(Me) End Sub
Now. When I run my project, and open the Form2 (small form), then hide it again (by 'closing' it), I can no longer close the main form (Form1)! It seems the main form cannot close when the small form still exists (albeit invisible)...?? When I don't use the Me argument in the Show method, I don't get the behavior I want. I know I can set the TopMost property to True but that will also cause it to become visible on top of all the other forms, even windows not part of my application.
I want to add a parameter to my function but it is not force. Example : Public Function fct(Byval str as string, byval bol as boolean) End Function I want to when i call function, i can pass value for bol or not. it still ok. How can i do that.
I've got a handful of dynamic controls populating an ASP page, with VB.NET in the back-end.What I need is when the user changes the .TEXT value of a textbox and the page posts back, the .TEXT value of a Table Cell changes to reflect that change (it multiplies the value of the textbox by the value of another cell). But a Table Cell can't be set to AutoPostBack, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to programmatically refresh the page (force a postback) in the TextChanged event for the textbox.
I am simply searching how to obtain errors/warning for each function/member that isnt documented. Im pretty sure I managed to do this on one of my projects, but cant find how to do it here on my workstation. I have looked into the project props, the solution props, but cant find it. I must have missed something, or maybe I could do this at home with an extension.
I currently have this which I thought would work fine but doesnt any ideas how to force 2 lines in messagebox?
Dim Message As String = "LOAD PART FILE - YES" & VBCRLF "LOAD PROBE FILE - NO" Dim Caption As String = "LOAD FILE" Dim Buttons As MessageBoxButtons = MessageBoxButtons.YesNoCancel Dim Result As DialogResult Result = MessageBox.Show(Message, Caption, Buttons, MessageBoxIcon.Question)
