How can I do this? I tried using an inputbox, but it didn't popup like a prompt box, but rather, I had to click on it for it to show up, which is not user-friendly. Feb 9, 2010The problem: A dialog's FormClosing() event is raised if it's a child, ie it's Owner property is set to the parent form, but NOT if it's a child-of-a-child. So closing the main form does not call the closing event on any grandchildren dialogs.
The Details: A dialog prompts to "Save Changes?", with YesNoCancel buttons, in the FormClosing() event. Clicking Cancel keeps the dialog open, ie cancel closing.

Then the FormClosing() event on the child does not raise, if the top-most parent is closed.

However, I do not have the slightest cluse as to how I can add this same functionality to the window so that if the user clicks the X in the upper right corner, there is a prompt message confirming the user needs to exit.I added a form closing event but getting wrong results, the form closes if I click no and message window does not leave when I click yes to stay.

May 21, 2012I know this topic is all over the web, but I seem to have a combination of issues that is either not addressed or I can't figure out that they are addressed. Here is what I am doing. I am using Webbrowser to log into a a website and navigate to a specific page, enter some query criteria and click a "search" button. This button produces a table of files that fit the criteria. I then go through the table,navigating to the file names and compare against my database to see if I want to download. This all works well.
The issue: there is no URL behind these file names. It is a JavaScript. I am able to call the file with invokemember("click") but I get the pesky dialog box or Open or Save. Then I get the directory dialog box.
I have tried sendkeys, trie to capture the Webbrowser_downloadFile event, tried ObjectForScripting(not sure I did that correctly), all to no avail. I have tried to use WebClient, but since I do not have and actual URL for the file, I did not expect it to work. I can navigate to the href attribute, but not sure how to use it.

If I am right and VB2008 only offers a standard message box, can anyone how they have created popup types of messages that only exist for a specified amount of time.
I have a situation where I would like to display an informational message box on screen when an event takes place but I don't want the user to have to acknowledge the event by having to press the OK button as the machine may or may not be attended at the time the message is displayed. If someone is present they can either acknowledge the event by pressing OK or simply waiting for the specified timeframe has elapsed.
VS 2008 - IDE Bug - Make Certain Forms Automatically Close After A Timeout Period
Sep 14, 2010I caused the VB.NET2008 IDE to do something extremely odd and unintentional with some code I was writing. As some of you know, I mostly write programs for industrial equipment. On one of our products, I needed to make certain forms automatically close after a timeout period. To do this, I began programming a usercontrol with a Timer on it (interval = 1000) and a ProgressBar. Timer.Enabled was set to the Enabled event so I could toggle it. When the control counted to it's timeout period, it would call Me.ParentForm.Close
So I build my project, and drop it on a form in the IDE and I see it begins counting! Huh... I had no idea timers were active in the IDE. I wonder what happens when it hit's it's trigger? I figure probably nothing since Me.ParentForm was actually the designer. When it triggered, the whole IDE crashes without save. I tried it twice now. Here's my

So that when the check box is true, columns 1 and 3 turn different colours, and when false, go to a yellow colour.However, when I "re-insert" my DGV info from my text file, the check boxes come back correctly - as true and false on the right rows - but columns 1 and 3 don't change colour. I've tried a "DataGridView1.Refresh" option but not getting it to work.The DGV is unbound. All is working, but now I would like to close child page, if user leaves child popup page and goes back to parent page and clicks on something else like page index of Gridview. I CANNOT close popup child page if user goes to another app, or some other location, I only want to close if something on parent page is changed.
I have the PageIndexChange Event set up for other purposes, I would just like to add some functionality, perhaps a script manager to close the child popup page if the Gridview index is changed, java or another way which ever works best.I think I might also need to check if the child page is even open.

Jan 16, 2009I'm currently in the process of building a text editor type program, and have run into a brick wall. I haven't done VB in years, so I may just need a little reminder on some things. I have coded everything so far as far as opening files, saving them, changing fonts, colors, etc. However, I'm looking to add a Close button to my menu strip that will just close the currently opened file, and not the entire program, while also ask the user if he/she would like to save before closing the file, and then if they select yes, it will show the save dialog, and if not, it will go ahead and close the currently opened item.

This involves the customer giving the employee information such as name, address, postcode etc and the employee inputting that information into text boxes and combo boxes that are in the application.
What I would like to be able to do is after the customers information is given over the phone, I need to be able to send that information to a database which will probably most likely be done by button click. In this case, I'm using Microsoft Access. I'm also hoping that I can do this within Visual Basic coding.
The database is set out with multiple tables which include a customer table and a ticket table and both have multiple fields such as first name, surname in the customers table. Both of these tables are in use with the information that the customer gives over the phone.
I've already asked on other forums and people are where replying giving me third party programs that I could use to implement this, something I don't really want to do.

May 22, 2012I am developing a program that makes it easier for users to log on to a website and search for specific data. I have the first portion finished in which I have a form with the Ax Web Browser control.
The web browser control navigates to a local website and automatically logs in for the end user. This is done by using code which automatically fills in the username and password and then submits the form to logon using something similar to this: WebBrowser1.Document.Forms.Item(, 0).elements("txtUsername").value = "user"
Once logged on - there is a search page which contains a combo box and list box. I am trying to set specific values for the combo box and list boxes.For example - the combo box on the website is titled: cbxDate and contains the following values: Today, Yesterday, This Week, This Month.
A list box titled: lstArea contains the following values: Zone A, Zone B, Zone C, All.I am trying to figure out if there is a way through code to select, in this example, "Yesterday" in the cbxDate and "Zone B" in the lstArea on the webpage.If anyone knows of a solution, please feel free to let me know. Be advised that I am using the Ax Web Browser Control.
