I am looking to prompt the user to save data when they close a form window in a winforms application. I can't figure out how to trigger the prompt to the user, should they click the red box at the top right corner of the form.
My application currently has a boolean flag, that is set to True on textchanged event. So I will only need to check for the boolean value in whatever event is trigger by the red box.
Whenever I enter text, even a single character, into a textbox in any Form in my application it causes the form and its parent to close. I've checked for the following so far:
Errant/mis-assigned event handlers that may be interpreting a keystroke as a Form cancel I am using keypreview in several windows but debugging shows this to not be a cause Happens in any form of the application Happens even with brand new text boxes dropped on the form Tried removing the WithEvents declaration from text box declarations (VB.NET)

However, I do not have the slightest cluse as to how I can add this same functionality to the window so that if the user clicks the X in the upper right corner, there is a prompt message confirming the user needs to exit.I added a form closing event but getting wrong results, the form closes if I click no and message window does not leave when I click yes to stay.

I'm in the process of converting a VB6.0 application to VB.Net (2008 Express). I have a MDI parent form, I'll call mdiBackground, and 4 MDI child forms, frmStatus, frmShow, frmQwerty, and frmSentence.The layout is as follows:mdibackground - has the menus at top and is a container for the child forms.frmSentence - appears at the top frmShow & frmQwerty - appear at the left and when one is closed the other one is in the same position.frmStatus - appears at the right, it has buttons which control when frmShow and frmQwerty are to appear I have a couple of regular forms that act as dialog forms. I have completed and distibuted a VB.net (VS 2008) winforms application to numerous users.
One user reports the following error when opening the application:
"[Application] has encountered an error and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost."
I can't reproduce this.
I've started making a Minesweeper game in vb.net using a dynamically created grid of buttons, which are stored in a 2D array. I have another 2D array (Boolean), that keeps track of whether a certain position is covered or uncovered. And I have an 'update grid' method that can be ran whenever, to update the grid, so that all that should be uncovered is uncovered on the screen.

I have a windows user control that reads events from the application log of a remote server. I can read in the information alright, and it appears to happen very quickly, however the thread hangs up for about 30 seconds afterwards and keeps my application from displaying the log.
I am afraid that this is probably caused by my lack of experience in dealing with threads, but I cannot be certain. I am definitely open to any suggestions with my threading here.
The easiest way to see what I am referring to is when the btnClear_click event handler is called. After jumping through the threading worm hole, it goes to the LoadFilteredEvent method. The results load fairly quickly from the ManagementObjectSearcher, but it hangs up for 30 to 60 seconds on the next statement.

When the user closes the browser, I want to display a confirm box if the user wants to save before exit.
If he says yes, then I wish to save the information in database and close the browser else I just close the browser.
I read msdn forums but all I found was window closing event which I was not able to apply here.
It seems like whenever i click my close button the application will close but the debugger is still in active.How to exit this debugger? :)

I need to create a form where AlwaysOnTop = True when the browser is visible. This creates some sort over "overlay". The logic works like this:
The program checks which window is active.If the active windows is a certain process, my form will initialize the TopMost utility, and be the active window itself. When the certain process is not the active window anymore, my form will disappear.

My program checks if a browser is the active window, if so: the form gets topmost and the program stops checking what the active window is. (because my topmost form is the active window now).Now the program needs to check what the window under my form is, the second active window. If it's not the browser anymore, the form needs to hide, and the program will check what the active window is again.
I already completed the function that checks what the first active window is, I'm stuck on getting the function that checks what the second active window is.

However, there is one problem with it... whenever I open a file and change stuff, then close it without saving the changes, the events still fire. I am opening excel workbooks in code, then use xlsWB.Close(SaveChanges:=False) to close them, and the event still fires, where the file isn't really changed so it should not fire.
I am trying to close my application and I have coded on the form closing, form closed events to call an exit form which asks the user for confirmation to exit or not. All works fine. When I press the X button on the winform things act different. On the main form where I press the X btn I store some user ID data that I use throughout the app. If I press cancel on the exit form that data is lost from the main form and cannot be used afterwards. So if the user pressed by mistake the X btn and then presses cancel on the exit form the application loses some stored data and many functions stop working.

What could cause the handle to change? The only other thing the form is doing is setting itself to invisible and setting the ShowInTaskbar = False in the Activated event.

For speed, I've decided to use temporary tables as the recordsource for a report. The problem occurs when I try and tidy up after the report is closed by trying to drop the temp table. Trying to do this using database.execute "DROP TABLE x" where x is the name of the temp table. Get a Run-time 3211 error that the table still has locks. I figured that any locks generated by the report would be dropped at least by the Deactivate event, but that doesn't seem to be the case. how to use a temp table in the report withot incurring an enduring table lock? The report is the sole user.

I've migrated to VB.NET e2010 and it doesn't work.
I've found how to handle events and use the NewWindow to cancel the opening of the pop-up.
Unfortunately by cancelling instead of closing after it was opened, it causes a script error by JavaScript on the main page.
