Keystrokes In Winforms App Causing Window To Close Unexpectedly

Whenever I enter text, even a single character, into a textbox in any Form in my application it causes the form and its parent to close. I've checked for the following so far:
Errant/mis-assigned event handlers that may be interpreting a keystroke as a Form cancel I am using keypreview in several windows but debugging shows this to not be a cause Happens in any form of the application Happens even with brand new text boxes dropped on the form Tried removing the WithEvents declaration from text box declarations (VB.NET)

I am looking to prompt the user to save data when they close a form window in a winforms application. I can't figure out how to trigger the prompt to the user, should they click the red box at the top right corner of the form.
My application currently has a boolean flag, that is set to True on textchanged event. So I will only need to check for the boolean value in whatever event is trigger by the red box.

How do I make the form send keystrokes such as Tab, Enter, Left Arrow etc to itself without interfering with other programs? If I use the SendKeys.Send method, it would send it to whatever window is opened. Is there a way to only work with the form? Very quick random example: Let's say I have 5 textBoxs and I click the 'Tab' button 5 times. What would happen ?
It would change the focus from one textbox to another right? Can I make this happen automatically ... like make it happen in the background and only to the form itself. So If I'm typing something on Notepad, I don't want to receive those 5 tabs. By the way I know I can use this code to change the fofucs, but remember its only an example.

In Visual Basic 2008 Express Edition, how would I send keystrokes to a specific window. Right now, I just keep the window I want on top and use sendkeys.send("{enter}"). The window that I want to send keystrokes to is my applications window.

I'm trying to send the keys "ABC" and "Enter" to Notepad when I press a button. I've been reading forever on Hooks, "SendKeys" functions, but I can't figure it out. I don't think I need to use a hook, because I'm not making a hotkey or anything, I'm just pressing a button and sending the keystrokes to a window when it's not focused.

I'm sending keystrokes to in inactive window. And I got that all good.
But now on my program there is a textbox pass, and I want to get that text, and send it threw postmessage. But It doesn't seem to work.

im a complet noob in vb . i have been trying to figure out how to send keystrokes back to my own application , while minimized/ Or focused on an other window.i think i need to use PostMessageA . i read about it on forums. But its like chinese for me.my goal is to run these little programs by the 100's on 1 pc. and they just press a key in their own application , over and over.i was thinking something like this

I know how to send mouse clicks and keystrokes into an application when it is open and active, but this particular application the task is very repetitive and can be done with a script of sorts. What i want is how do i make a program to be able to send inputs (key clicks) into the application when it is minimized (the application minimized that is). doing this minimized would then allow me to do other more important things whilst the vb program is sending instructions into the other app.[code]...

I have to build an application using it in order to communicate with some software. Basically, I need to be able to call this exe and have it run to perform some tasks, then close itself down.I have the tasks running on page load but since I don't want the application to actually open, I use a Me.Close() to close it once it's finished the tasks. So, the whole thing works great (the tasks are even performed) except the Me.Close() causes a message to come up saying the application "has stopped working." Is it because I'm trying to close it while it's loading itself?I am forced to perform these tasks in VB, so please don't just say I should not be using VB.NET for this.

I need to create a form where AlwaysOnTop = True when the browser is visible. This creates some sort over "overlay". The logic works like this:
The program checks which window is active.If the active windows is a certain process, my form will initialize the TopMost utility, and be the active window itself. When the certain process is not the active window anymore, my form will disappear.

My program checks if a browser is the active window, if so: the form gets topmost and the program stops checking what the active window is. (because my topmost form is the active window now).Now the program needs to check what the window under my form is, the second active window. If it's not the browser anymore, the form needs to hide, and the program will check what the active window is again.
I already completed the function that checks what the first active window is, I'm stuck on getting the function that checks what the second active window is.

I have a window which should stay on top of Power point slide shows. So it should be on top of all the windows. I did this easily using VB 6 using Lib "user32", but it seems to be difficut with VB.net.
Me.TopMost = True
This does not seem to work as it works only within the program.

I have a button that closes my window when it's clicked[code]...
but now I have code in my code behind i.e. the method "SaveCommand". I am using the MVVM pattern and SaveCommand is the only code in my code behind.

You can see I have to check if the pop-up was opened and then close it.
I've migrated to VB.NET e2010 and it doesn't work.
I've found how to handle events and use the NewWindow to cancel the opening of the pop-up.
Unfortunately by cancelling instead of closing after it was opened, it causes a script error by JavaScript on the main page.

I have a console application that lists all files in a folder and then deletes them![code]This code lists the hole path to the file, but i only want that the filenames are shown (not the path)!And i also want the console window to close after 5 seconds. I am trying to work on an application that disables the close button (X) on the upper right hand corner of a window. In order to do that I need to use calls to API methods like GetSystemMenu, EnableMenuItem and RemoveMenu. I can figure out how these methods work but there are certain parameters that these methods have whose values that need to be passed to them as argument is unknown to me. How can I know them.
E.G.- for EnableMenuItem, the parameters are- hMenu (handle to the menu), uIDEnableItem (The menu item to be enabled, disabled, or grayed), uEnable (This parameter must be a combination of at least two of the following:
MF_BYCOMMAND or MF_BYPOSITION
MF_ENABLED, MF_DISABLED, or MF_GRAYED)
Now when I call this method from my application I supply the current window handle as the first argument, the item no. to be disabled/enabled as the second argument but I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHAT TO SEND AS THE THIRD ARGUMENT. What exactly are the possible values for those parameters- MF_BYCOMMAND or MF_DISABLED. I checked certain examples where they are supplying hexadecimal values like &HF060, &H1, 0x400, 0x1000, 0x2 etc. or integer values like 1024, 2 etc. But how would I know what exactly these values are and when to use which value. The same problem arises in case of calling RemoveMenu method. If you know about any chart or tutorial that lists the values of these parameters
