Avoid Duplicated Entries In Ini File And Retrieve Settings From Ini

Nov 25, 2010

But i've a problem, everytime i hit the button "Save Settings" in my form/application it will re-save the settings to ini file, causing duplicate entries :(

Does anyone knows how can i avoid it to happen?

And, how can i retrieve a setting from the ini file to a textbox or messagebox or something?

(before anyone start saying me to use .xml, i was reading and i prefer the .ini files to what i'm doing)

String Search Listbox Entries To Avoid Duplicate Entries In VB 2008?

Nov 29, 2009

I have a program where you have three entries, CD name, artist, price and it goes into a listbox and .txt file when closing. I have to have a message box if you enter the same CD name. I have a code to open the .txt file and compare strings but I need to change it to compare only the CD name and not all three entries. Is there a way to do my string compare against my listbox without opening the .txt file?? The program loads the listbox from the .txt file when opening. Private Sub btnAdd_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnAdd.Click' adds CD information to the list box

' declare variables
Dim strName As String
Dim strArtist As String
Dim strPrice As String

Avoid Duplicated Event Handlers?

How do I avoid an event from being handled twice (if is the same handler?)

I want the event manager to detect that this event is already handled by this handler and so it shouldn't rehandle (or readd) it.

[vb2008] Retrieve Previous Settings During A New Update?

Jun 20, 2011

If I modify a program of mine in some parts, adding also some settings in My.Settings and changing version, then I have to compile and create a new installer with the dear old InnoSetup.

Then I install the program, I go to see the settings ... and I see that them are the default settings stored in the MyProgram.exe.config file shipped with the new installer.

But is absolutely easy that a user would have changed the settings in a previous version (if existing) of the program.

So now the question is: during the new installation is there some clean and tested method to retrieve and update the settings set by users in any previous version of a program?

Modify Table Entries Based On Other Entries?

Jun 22, 2010

I want to set a certain column to true or false automatically based on what value another column has entered. I managed to get this working by myself using the 'SQL Pane' in VB and testing it by using execute sql but I don't know what to do now. I assumed that I could just save it and it would work from there but that's not the case, it dissapears from the SQL Pane if I close the project (even though it worked fine when I ran the project the first time), so where do I put it/what do I do with it in order to get this to work?

VS 2010 - My.Settings - Can't Find File Which Reflects Changes To User Settings

1. I can't find the file which reflects changes to user settings. This might be because I just can't find it (I can see a bunch of user.config files but they are all empty - weird!), or...

2. I'm not actually saving them when I think I am.

Regarding 2. - do I need to invoke

Is this all I need? And if so, why are my user.configs empty?

VS 2008 Settings Are Read From App.config Instead Of Settings-file

Oct 30, 2009

I have created a settings-file for my plug-in-based app. When the mainApp writes the settings to the file, the pluginApp should read the settings from the settings-file (when opening or at runtime even better), but somehow it reads the settings from the app.config-file. This means that the pluginApp never will read the settings according the values of the file.

Display Entries From A Csv Text File Individually In A Listb?

Mar 3, 2011

I made an application that writes to a text file in csv format, and on another tab, there is a listbox where the user can click the "View Report" button and it will display the information from the text file in a list box. Right now, I am really pleased with it because I was able to use "split" to get all of the separated values on there own individual lines. Now I am wondering, is there a way that I can display one entry at a time in the list box, and then maybe implement "previous entry" and "next entry" buttons so that the user doesn't have to scroll down through the entries to view them, they can just hit next entry and it will go to the next line in the csv text file and display the information from there? I have tried doing it a few different ways, here is what I have so far for the "View Current Report" button:

Private Sub btnViewCurrent_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnViewCurrent.Click
lblReport.Text = "Current Report"

[code].....

VS 2008 - LINQ Query Against A Typed Datatable That Will Return Me Duplicated Data?

Jan 25, 2010

I'm trying to do a LINQ Query against a typed datatable that will return me duplicated data. With out going into too much detail, here's the basic setup:

strCode1 - string type
intCode1 - int32 type
intAdjustor - int32

There are more fields but these are the ones that are important.I'm going to do my best to describe this, as it's kind of confusing. In theory intCode1 is a key for strCode1 (hence the names). So each time intCode1 is duplicated, the same strCode1 should appear. Example:

[code]...

Ultimately I'd like to get a List(Of T) - where T is my typed data row. In SQL, I would simply use a sub query, to get a distinct list of strCode1 and intCode1, then do a count, grouped by strCode1 where I get more than one row.I'm not sure how to translate that into LINQ, AND get the original types data rows returned in a list.
