Avoid Using Any Database Server And Use A Local File As Datasource?
Feb 15, 2012
So I have an application which uses MSSQL server as datasource. Is there anyways I can avoid using any database server and use a local file as datasource ?
I normally place all db related work in my databases in SQL Server Express 2005. But in tutorials I have seen, I heard that one needs to re-create referential integrity and relationships and constraints and checks and defaults anew in datasources mapped onto databases. Is this true? What parts of a database are NOT mapped on to datasources?
Ok, so I've got this Visual Studio 2008 Project I was working with about a year ago perhaps. And this project had a datagrid that was linked to an external database running on a server off the internet. Now, this databinding was all done using Visual Studio 2008's built in features. But how can I now change the binding to a different server, without destroying the project? I've noticed that a lot of the code that Visual Studio creates makes a mess. So manually trying to change the datasource has allways f*cked up the whole project for me.
I'm not all that good with this stuff, that's why I used the built in features of Visual Studio. But I noticed that several things appear, like a binding source, and a dataset. Is it possible to do this? Perhaps even better, making these settings be controlled after the program has been compiled. The way it is now, it's all hard coded after compiling, and that kinda sucks. I remember trying to do this about a year ago, trying to bind these settings to variables stored in settings. But I never got that to work. Just throwing around ideas here
I am making a VB.NET application that can download/backup the database that is currently on a remote server. I have Remote Server IP,Username,Password and Database name. I am also able to connect to it. But I don't know what to do after connecting to it. I don't know what all files are need to be backed up. (I think database and log file both must be backed up, I am not sure).
how can i deploy windows application developed using Vb.net and Sqlserver R2 Express as local database?..how can i make it in setup format(including sqlserver) to deliver to clients?is it compulsory the client should install SQL Server R2 Express in his system apart from the installation of this windows application?
Visual Basic 2010 Express, lets the user to add a Local Database with .sdf extension. These databases needs MICROSOFT SQL Server to be created or they can run in the user's pc without any additional software? What are the limit of these databases unlike an external database?
I'm making a game in Gamemaker and i'm using VS2010 to create a launcher for it. The launcher works like the Minecraft launcher:
it has to check a file from my server, then compare it to the local file, and if they aren't the same, the launcher has to re-download the game.exe from the server.
This all has to happen when i click play. To make the game start i use Process.Start(My.Computer.FileSystem.CurrentDirectory & "\game.exe") i've put the game in the solution explorer.
put 'copy to output directory' to 'copy always'. i appareantly had to do that according to a tutorial to launch game.exe. Now, as i've said, i'm quitte new to VS 2010.
I have a chat server / client system running, but I want users to authenticate with my vBulletin forum database.I don't want the client to do it, because it is possible to fake the 'successful login' and connect with a fake username. I want to send the username and password details to the server, and make the server check it with the local vBulletin MySQL database for the username and password. Is there a way to do this? To my knowledge vBulletin has a username and a password entries in the database which is salted, and the salt varies from user to user.
I am having a remote server it has INVENTORY DATABSE , and also iam having same databse in my local system. I want to populate by local database table with my Remote database table through Vb.net code by click a button. How to do this .
I'm willing to compare a textfile (whatever) which contains a few lines of text. After the comparison it should download and replace the "changed" folder/file. E.g.
I want to know how to connect to a remote system having some shared folder.(ex, \myservermysharedfolder).Actually, I was supposed to copy a particular file which is available in a shared location of a system. To copy that file, first i need to connect to that system with an user id and password.I know copying of file (), But not getting clear idea on how to connect to the shared folder. I have tried with System.Management class, but no use..
I am working on a project based on networking. My problem is that database on server (time to time updated by clients Application) is available in shared folder sometime any client delete that database file from shared folder then project stopped working. So give me process for accomplish this problem is there any way through which is database on server work invisibly and client unable to delete that file. I tried read only attribute on shared folder then my project unable to insert record in that database file.
I have developed a VB.NET program using a strongly typed dataset. This dataset has its connection to a SQL Server 2008 R2. The software should now be additionally used offline. The database should be exported to a *.sdf database. If no connection to the SQL server is produced, the software have to try to connect to the *.sdf database.I would like to achieve:
1. Export the data in the SQL Server 2008 R2 database to a local *.sdf file.
2. This *.sdf file has to work as an alternate connection string in the strongly typed dataset.
I moved my web application to a server and im getting this error below, but on my localhost it works great. Im finding that the error has to have something to do with the dataset not pulling back any data, when I do a for each statement. But the weird thing is that I do a for each statement on another page and it works fine. Here is my for each statement, that im assuming doesnt work. The reason im assuming it b/c when i test it on local it works fine:
Dim retObj As New ClassLibrary1.sql_class For Each row As DataRow In retObj.sel_all_email_list(company).tables(0).rows email += row("EMAIL_ADDRESS") & "/" Next
I Need to Store bunch of Jpeg files from local file system to a column with image datatype in databse. Can any one please provide me some code to do it?
I recently upgraded the MS SQL Server installed on my personal computer from 2005 Express to 2008 Express. Problem is when I try to add an SQL database file to a project using VS 2005 I get an error message saying that the version of my database server is not supported, I must have SQL Server 2005 Beta 2 or later installed. I didn't do it yet but I'm pretty sure that when I open the other projects that I included a database file to it, I'm going to get the same error. My question is it possible to have two SQL Servers installed on my machine? If so, is it a good idea to have two DB servers in the same machine?
I work with vb.net I have a sqlServer database and i need to migrate to a DBF database.I know that a dbf file sctructure is a hexadecimal text file.I want to generate this file without a provider...building this file with this hexadecimal structure.
I am working with two seperate SQL statements when user conducts a search on my winforms app.A user can search based on an OrderNumber, OrderDate, ClaimNumber, ClaimDate, CustomerID, CustomerPhone One SQL statement returns the OrderNumber (in case the user searched based on OrderDate), which is used to execute another SQL statement, which returns the details about the order.
The results are populated in a gridview.Once the first statement is executed, I have a DataSource (DataSet). How can I append that datasource to display the fields from the second statement as well, keeping in mind, that the first statement could return multiple records, all of which will need to have the appropriate order details correctly linked.
how can i avoid data duplicate in the database?i mean if i add in the fields that has been already save it will still save.i don't know how to query or filter not to add the same info.i have the code below but it still save if i input same as already in the database.[code]i want is to query first before it add the data to avoid same info.
How can i avoid the duplicate values in the Access Database?? I am working in VB.NET, to create DataEntry Form. I have Combobox. When enter the value on Combobox and press OK button then the value should check on the database , if the value is not there then it should save on the db. else the Missage will give "It is Saved".
I am a beginner in vb.net and I need to customize our application based on end user requirement in the office, I need to create Login Box for the Application to protect my database. I have a loguser table in SQL with field on userid, username and a hashed password for everyuser. Now I created a new project in vb.net and I am confused to what to use on the toolbox? First I use the windows forms to create the txtbox, command button and labels, but then I am confused already I can only create local login in my pc windows account, I need the log-in on my database application based on their username and password saved on the tables.
me..ExampleSQL(datainformation):ServerName=Aries, DatabseName=Jupiter, TableName=UserLog, FieldName=Username, Userpassword, Example in VB.net forms I created lblUsername, txtusername, lblpassword, txtpassword and btnLogin.
I have a legacy data table in SQL Server 2005 that has a PK with no identity/autoincrement and no power to implement one. As a result, I am forced to create new records in ASP.NET manually via the ole "SELECT MAX(id) + 1 FROM table"-before-insert technique.Obviously this creates a race condition on the ID in the event of simultaneous inserts.
What's the best way to gracefully resolve the event of a race collision? I'm looking for VB.NET or C# code ideas along the lines of detecting a collision and then re-attempting the failed insert by getting yet another max(id) + 1. Can this be done?
I was created simple payroll system application. It's already working on my local pc. Now, my client want to install in their server and they need to access atleast 3 pc's to it. This application compiled using setup and deployment. During the installation the access database included with the same directory of the executable file. If I will install this application on their server do I have to install also in their 3 pc's? but every installation it has included access database. How to achieve this? here is the connection of my database
VB.Net, ADO.Net, .Net 2.0, VS2005 I need to implement the ability of MS Access to link to multiple servers. I have a client side SQL Server Express 2008 DB that supports a subset of SQL Server 2000 data. The Express DB is on a client that is a Tablet PC that is disconected and taken into the field. With Access MDB on the client I could add links to the SQL Server 2000 to extract the data in one SQL command. In ADO.Net I need two seperate connections, one for each server, so I can no longer reference both servers in the same SQL statement. While connected how to I 'refresh' my client side data using ADO.Net?
