How can i avoid the duplicate values in the Access Database?? I am working in VB.NET, to create DataEntry Form. I have Combobox. When enter the value on Combobox and press OK button then the value should check on the database , if the value is not there then it should save on the db. else the Missage will give "It is Saved".

If there is only one item in the database, then this code works. If there is more than one record then the error is produced that it is trying to produce duplicate values. This is down to the Primary key in my database which is the only thing that cannot have duplicate values. However, when I remove the primary key it has the predictable problem that it goes crazy and does weird things.
How can I Avoid Duplicate values In datagrideview. IF found dublicate values in will change the row backcolour and show me the rows.

I have a program where you have three entries, CD name, artist, price and it goes into a listbox and .txt file when closing. I have to have a message box if you enter the same CD name. I have a code to open the .txt file and compare strings but I need to change it to compare only the CD name and not all three entries. Is there a way to do my string compare against my listbox without opening the .txt file?? The program loads the listbox from the .txt file when opening. I have a form where two fields on the first page of the form make up the primary key. I want to check for duplicate values before attempting to insert the record, since I don't want the user to go all the way through the form only to find out they can't submit it. So I'm trying to check for duplicate values when the user tries to go to the next page of the form. I wasn't quite sure how to do it, and sure enough I'm getting an error. ("Object reference not set to an instance of an object.") The problem is apparently in my if statement, "If myValue.Length > 0 Then", but I'm not sure what needs to be in place of that.

The problem is: I have a list of objects, with some containing the same PlanId property value. I want to only grab the first occurrence of those and ignore the next object with that PlanId. The root problem is a View in the database, but it's tied in everywhere and I don't know if changing it will break a ton of stuff nearing a deadline.
So, if I have a list of PlanObjects like such.

View 4 RepliesI have a legacy data table in SQL Server 2005 that has a PK with no identity/autoincrement and no power to implement one. As a result, I am forced to create new records in ASP.NET manually via the ole "SELECT MAX(id) + 1 FROM table"-before-insert technique.Obviously this creates a race condition on the ID in the event of simultaneous inserts.
What's the best way to gracefully resolve the event of a race collision? I'm looking for VB.NET or C# code ideas along the lines of detecting a collision and then re-attempting the failed insert by getting yet another max(id) + 1. Can this be done?
I am building VB.NET application that takes data from text files that are exported from a legacy DOS program. These are written to a datatable and displayed in a datagridview. Right now my code simply loops through the datagridview and inserts the data into the database (SQL Server). There is a requirement now that the client number must be checked before the insert to see if it exists in the database. If it does, then the value of one field (tax rate) is checked against the value of the field in the datagridview. If there is a difference, then the rate is to be updated in the database and the data that was in the database is to be written to a history table for audit purposes. If the client number is not there, then we are to do the insert (which is already written). I want to know what is the most elegant and efficient solution for this problem.
I need to compare what is in the database table with what is in the datagridview, update the history table for records that exist, and then insert new records.

Some of these I am sure are duplicate databases.I was wondering if anyone knew if there was a way to interigate the database objects so as to make a comparison between databases (see if they are in fact duplicates.)I would (ideally) like to get a list of all database objects - such as queries, forms, tables,modules etc..
