I'm constantly trying to improve my coding abilities. I'm trying to learn the ropes on using .NET Sockets but everything I'm finding it pretty cheesy and doesn't really go over the details of what each piece of the code is about.Can anyone point me to a great tutorial or site where I can get started?
View 2 RepliesAbout 3 years ago i came across a vb project for a photo album, it was on online tutorial and I followed it and after some custom tweaking I found it was quite usefull. Unfortuatly the original sourcecode has long since vanished.The project was fairly easy to follow and I remember the author had a photo image of his sailing boat and a yellow labrador (just trying to jog some memories here) :).
Anyway; I have searched high and low for it but can not find it. I'm pretty sure it was on a msdn or some other microsoft forum and was to do with VB 2005 or VB 2008 edition of Visual studio.

I can't install visual basic express on computer cause i'm on shared computer and such huge install is not possible on that computer. So i picked up sharpdevelop. After searching most of the tutorial, i found out that most of tutorial written for visual studio IDE for vb and vb.net. I'm trying to learn vb.net in depth from command line to gui programs. Any good recommendation of tutorials, book ? I searched google but very few results so far. I'm looking for good learning tutorials that can help learn with sharpdevelop.any suggestion for tutorial and books that mentions sharpdevelop in their tutorial/guide ?

I have thios code that will load a php file (text file) into a sting via streamreader then its supposed to find and replace a portion of the text and write the changes back out to the file via streamwriter. I put my code together and after running it look at the file and it's unchanged. After looking closer it appears the problem is the find & replace operation I am doing on the string. Here is my code:

I am using an image button and on click of it i want to go to visited page.Now i am using - Response.Redirect(Request.UrlReferrer.ToString()),It is going to previous page, but when i am in a page of some user details where the link is looks like - users.aspx?userid=25 and i visit some other page and click back(image button) i want to see the same userdetail page. How to track that.
View 2 RepliesI have a search page with a couple of pulldowns. Dependig on the values of them I show a grid matching the searched criteria, basically a table with links the user can navigate to. My problem comes when the user wants to navigate back. At the moment I have a "Back" button which simply redirects the user to the initial search page. I think it would be a good improvement to have the values of the pulldowns filled in with the values the user selected, this way when he presses the "Back" button he would not have to restart the whole search process again.

View 3 RepliesWe have a server application and a client application that communicates with each other using socket.
When the server application sends 2 messages about 16-31 ms apart, the 1st message is received by the client application with little delay (like 16-32 ms after it was sent). But the 2nd message is received by the client application a lot later (like 200 ms later) than when it was sent.
We already disabled Nagle algorithm (set NoDelay = True) in the socket in both the server and client application.
We are having problems with sending back to back emails on one of our web sites. The site is built with .net framework 2.0.We can send the first email without any problems on every try. But to send a second email you need to wait about 20-30 minutes.the problem.One thing we tried was changing the smtp email server. We tried a third party smtp server but the same problem persisted. So I think the problem is not with the smtp server but with our .net code.

My WPF client calls a service reference to get data objects that contain data from the database but from everything I've seen and read so far about MVVM I am still not clear on how to use MVVM to work with the data objects I am retrieving from the WCF services.

View 1 RepliesAs a measure of emergency I need to prepare a very simple ActiveX object to be used in Excel sheet and VBA.I'm not a hardcore programmer myself but I'm able to put together a code in VBA to get things done. I have no experience compiling ActiveX dll's in VB though.Could anyone point me to a simple tutorial on the web where I could learn steps how to do it in VB? (project type, setting up methods for the control, parameters for compiling the dll so it's recognized as an ActiveX.. etc)The ActiveX object will be very simple - it's a stopwatch:
1. displaying elapsing time, I have it done already in VB as a windows ap.
2. As an object it will be taking only 3 types of methods: start, stop, reset
3. it has to be a proper ActiveX, so I can use "insert ActiveX" in Excel to add it to the sheet and the code.

I have a VB.Net app using hard coded MySQL statements and variables from different parts of the program, mostly the server as I have the same app with options to connect to different servers with the same back end structure (different data unique). As far as i know I can not use data sets (I think thats the name for them) as that would mean one program for one location.
View 4 RepliesI am rather familiar with the ins and outs of VB.NET and Database Selects, Updates and Inserts. Not so good with Transactions. (Oracle, MSSQL)
for example, take a Billing System for a hardware store.I create a 'New Order' and select the Cash Customer I start adding items to this order. 1 Rake 1 Shovel Where do I store this information (temporarily) until the user hits 'SAVE'. Maybe the customer decides they don't want the items. Too expensive. I just EXIT. nothign to do.
Or - I open an existing order and make a bunch of changes. Where do I put these changes until the user hits SAVE. I am sure transactions might have something to do with this - or temporary somethings??? I just don't know and need some guidance.
