I am rather familiar with the ins and outs of VB.NET and Database Selects, Updates and Inserts. Not so good with Transactions. (Oracle, MSSQL)
for example, take a Billing System for a hardware store.I create a 'New Order' and select the Cash Customer I start adding items to this order. 1 Rake 1 Shovel Where do I store this information (temporarily) until the user hits 'SAVE'. Maybe the customer decides they don't want the items. Too expensive. I just EXIT. nothign to do.
Or - I open an existing order and make a bunch of changes. Where do I put these changes until the user hits SAVE. I am sure transactions might have something to do with this - or temporary somethings??? I just don't know and need some guidance.
As a measure of emergency I need to prepare a very simple ActiveX object to be used in Excel sheet and VBA.I'm not a hardcore programmer myself but I'm able to put together a code in VBA to get things done. I have no experience compiling ActiveX dll's in VB though.Could anyone point me to a simple tutorial on the web where I could learn steps how to do it in VB? (project type, setting up methods for the control, parameters for compiling the dll so it's recognized as an ActiveX.. etc)The ActiveX object will be very simple - it's a stopwatch:
1. displaying elapsing time, I have it done already in VB as a windows ap.
2. As an object it will be taking only 3 types of methods: start, stop, reset
3. it has to be a proper ActiveX, so I can use "insert ActiveX" in Excel to add it to the sheet and the code.
I guess I have to start with creating a 'class library' project, haven't I ?
I am developing a VB application using the Visual Studio 2008 IDE. I was making changes to my code using the Quick Replace function when the dialog window stopped displaying. Selection of Quick Find or Quick Replace from the Edit menu, as well as use of shortcut keys (CTL+F and CTL+H) all have the same affect: the IDE loses focus but no dialog windows display. Is this a known issue with an available fix?
I have experience in C++ programming, but never created gui with it so learning vb.net for some quick gui development. and i want to learn vb.net. I can't install visual basic express on computer cause i'm on shared computer and such huge install is not possible on that computer. So i picked up sharpdevelop. After searching most of the tutorial, i found out that most of tutorial written for visual studio IDE for vb and vb.net. I'm trying to learn vb.net in depth from command line to gui programs. Any good recommendation of tutorials, book ? I searched google but very few results so far. I'm looking for good learning tutorials that can help learn with sharpdevelop.any suggestion for tutorial and books that mentions sharpdevelop in their tutorial/guide ?
I was wondering if anyone could point me to a really good tutorial on Directsound.I don't know if trying to digest an API is a good thing for a beginner but I really need something that has a beginner in mind.I especially liked some of the Microsoft video tutorials on VB.NET so perhaps they offer some on Directsound? The goal is to stream a WAV file, (not just "play it") and I want to LEARN the process.
About 3 years ago i came across a vb project for a photo album, it was on online tutorial and I followed it and after some custom tweaking I found it was quite usefull. Unfortuatly the original sourcecode has long since vanished. The project was fairly easy to follow and I remember the author had a photo image of his sailing boat and a yellow labrador (just trying to jog some memories here) :).
Anyway; I have searched high and low for it but can not find it. I'm pretty sure it was on a msdn or some other microsoft forum and was to do with VB 2005 or VB 2008 edition of Visual studio.
I am getting the following error when I call another form from Form1 and fill out the text boxes and Press Ok button. For some reason I cannot access the datatable (dt) from Form1. It gives me the following error: Reference to a non-shared member requires an object reference
In my program i have added a reference to Windows Script Host Object Model to make a shortcut. I then used "Imports IWshRuntimeLibrary".My problem is that when i run the program i get an error meaage saying "Could not load file or assembly 'Interop.IwshRuntimeLibrary, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture= neutral, PublicKeyToken=null' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified." This only happens when i run the program outside of VS 2005, when i press start debugging is VS it works fine.
I deploy a project under vb.net 2008 express successfully. My code nneds a reference of Excel. But when I run it under Visual Studio 2005 Profession Edition, I am unable to find Microsoft Excel 11.0 Object Library(or any lower version).
I would like one of you to help me out. I have a problem with the code, I have input the valid username and password in the form textbox, but I got the error of object reference not set to an instance of an object.[code]
how to delete a project reference set. i have had mysql connector 6.xx.0 but due to bug i uninstalled it & reinstalled 5.x.x now i am unable reset the project reference
I'm building SQL statements with a bunch of values from a dataset. Obviously that gives some really long names to put inline or even in parameter. addwithvalue code so beforehand I just declare a bunch of variables with really short names and assign them to the DS's exact fields like: [code] but this way I'm putting all the data in the dataset into memory twice by copying it into a new variable, right? So I was thinking, if it's just a string variable representing a field on the dataset, why not declare it by reference so the variable is basically a handy nickname pointing to that field in the dataset. Will it even work to have a string declared by reference and connected to one value inside of a dataset? And if so, will that stop duplicating everything in memory? I forgot how to declare a variable as a reference to another variable instead of the normal way in VB.
I have a windows form application and also a exe application that both uses the same dll whic I place in the bin directory The dll is using crystal report and thus I need to reference com objects and other .net drivers. My question is following: Where should I put these references, in the class library (dll) or in the windows form / exe applications. If I put them in the dll, will they automatically be loaded when call the dll (entry point) or do I need to something else (create in installer etc)
Function fnt_db_JDE(ByVal connName As String, ByVal strSQL As String) As DataTable Dim result As New DataTable Dim dsSysConfig As New DataSet Dim xmlPath As String = ini("Root") & "SysConfig.xml"
I am not sure I am even asking this question correctly, but what I am looking to do is re-center a google map based on an address obviously. I currently have a map that displays one property and six nearby other propertys the center is based on the one property. I want to give the user the choice of re-centering the map based on one of the six nearby propertys whose address is stored in a textbox.
I am using OleDbCommand to create a dataadpater and then filling a datatableThen fill BindingSources with the datatable and finally bind textboxes to with my bindingsource. My question is can i reference the cloumns by number rather then by name I have searched around and cant seem to find any information:
I'm wondering if someone can point me towards a good article/tutorial explaining how to use the MVVM pattern in an WPF Application that uses WCF web services. My WPF client calls a service reference to get data objects that contain data from the database but from everything I've seen and read so far about MVVM I am still not clear on how to use MVVM to work with the data objects I am retrieving from the WCF services.
I have a RichTextBox where I expect 100 characters per line. Each line can start with the letter A, B, or C. I may have thousands of lines and most of them will start with the letter C.When the cursor is moved from one line to another and is placed on a "C" line, I need to be able to quickly locate the nearest "B" line above it. It may be hundreds of lines away. A loop to search for the "B" line using GetFirstCharIndexFromLine(x) is too slow.
The user may want to paste many lines into the textbox. If necessary, a mild wait after pasting is acceptable.Do you have any suggestions for a technique to accomplish what I need to do? Even just a high level suggestion like "use a linked list"
Could anybody guide me how to perform a quick serch in vb.net database?I used to do it in vb6, using FindFirst method. Is anything else like that in vb.net?Do i always have to use SQL to check if record under current data exists in the database or not?
I used to write programs in Quick Basic on my XP computer. I now have a Vista (64bit) computer and everybody knows (except me) that those programs won't run on my Vista computer.I want to be able to write single user programs on my Vista computer like I did with my XP computer. Since I'm somewhat familiar with the Quick Basic language, I want to stay in the "Basic" language family. What do I need to have on my Vista computer that would allow me to write and run simple single user programs?
I have a list with a boolean value as one of the properties. I need to check if every one of these is true. Now normally LINQ would give a nice clean answer here, but as I am using .NET 2.0 I can't use that.If there a nicer way to do this or am I going to have to do a for each loop and break out on finding a false?
Edit:Seems I could have been a bit clearer. I have an object in a list (eg List (Of MyObject)). There is a boolean property on this object called Processed.I need to check that all objects in the list are processed. So in LINQ I'd do:if (from o in list where o.processed = false select o).count = 0 then....
Decided to make my own installer. code for making a quick launch icon. This is the code im using for creating a desktop icon.

I thought about trying decimals but if I remember correctly from C++ it does nto work or make a difference.. how to display a balloon tip that pops up for only 1 second then dissapears very fast?
