I wrote a function to format numbers like this: 123456100,12 -> 123.456.100,12 (I have a function too, which converts numbers from this strings).Now, I have a dgv and a column with these numbers (or rather strings). The sort mode is set to automatic. If I sort the column, it doesn't work, because the values are not really numbers, but strings. But I get the same result (the sorting doesn't work), if I use the formatnumber function (this returns strings too).
I could use the programmatic sort mode and before sorting I format the strings to numbers, then sort the column, and then format the numbers like above. But this is a bit slow (the dgv has appr. 800 rows), and in this case, I haven't an arrow next to the column header text.is it possible to sort the column like a normal number-column with automatic sortmode?

The problem is that for some columns it sets the data type to be Double even though the spreadsheet column format is "Text" and teh column contains non-numeric data. Then when it gets to that cell it returns DBNull instead of the text value.

I'm doing a notepad project, just because, and in Ms's notepad there is an option for a statusstrip. I'm just having probems getting the line number and I know it's not called column number, more like selection start. When I do the selection start, it works, just not how I want it to like so:

but when I use that, it acts funny. I have it in my textbox's.keydown event. So if I were to use the arrow keys to navigate around text then it gets thrown off very easily. How would I do this?

My program reads a 3rd party .txt file using OleDb and reads the file into a datatable. It's overall working fine except a user will occasionally have a problem reading a file. At this point.

It can not retrieve a date for one of the fields, then gives error and does not get dates for each records after the one it gets hung up on but the date is in the file. If I open the file in excel and play with the column sizing, for instance just autoformat column width then it read the date and will work fine. I have looked at the file in notepad and cant see anything wrong in particular on the record it gets hung up on. I have no control over the .txt file since it comes form a 3rd party.
I have a program runs with access database. It runs ok on WINXP. However, when I run it on Vista, it shows this exception: system.InvalidOperationException: The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.
I searched, it seems the exception has some relations with 64bit OS, but my vista is 32bit home version.
I want to make some exception catching code a little cleaner, if possible.I currently have the below:

I have a problem with Oledb connection when I am trying to open an Excel spreadsheet:

This piece of code works well on one computer, but on another the IMEX=1 doesn't seem to work, and the Jet seems to read the first few rows of the Excel spreadsheet that are numeric and decides that the whole spreadsheet is numeric, so it ignores some String values later in the sheet.

If 2 or more people save there file at the same time will the program go into read only on one person. Normally one 3 will use the file at one time. I know Sql itself would be better to use. best way i can describe it, normally using excel if you manage to open the same file twice one opens as normal but the other opens as a Read only file, will the same thing happen if im using Oledb connections?

But when I try to get a number to display twice it stops on the second entry. Having it display the number twice is just a test to make sure it does work, I am going to modify it after I can prove the loop works. View 6 RepliesI have a databound DataGridView, and I'd like to keep one column in front, with a slightly smaller width than the default. The grid's AutoSizeColumnsMode property is set to Fill so that the columns fill out the entire grid. This makes the first column equally large as all others, which is why I need to set its width manually. The smaller column is the first one with the checkboxes. I have two grids that I need to do this with, and for some reason it works just fine with the first grid, but gives a null reference error on the second grid...
Here's the code for the first grid (working fine):

As you can see, the code is exactly the same (except for not setting the BackColor of each row and not using the ReadOnly property*). When I run this code, it gives me a null reference error ("Object reference not set to an instance of an object.") on the line where I set the column's Width. Obviously 'col' is not Nothing (otherwise it would have errored before that line), and there's nothing else there that could be Nothing... I assume that something happens internally in the grid when you set the width of a column, and that there is a null reference there, but obviously I have no control over that.
The grid's are absolutely the same, as the second grid is just a 'copy' (meaning I copy/pasted it in the designer) of the first. So all their properties are equal. I thought maybe the ReadOnly properties were the problem, but I tried putting them in in the same way and the issue did not go away... The first grid is not ReadOnly (because the checkboxes need to be editable), but all rows except the first are, while the second grid is completely ReadOnly.
