In the following fragment I want to set vID2 to NULL (and not to 0) if mID2 is an empty string. How do I do this? There is apparently no OleDbType.Null
cn.Open()
strTemp = "INSERT INTO tbShips (vNew_b, vID, vID2) VALUES(?, ?, ?)"
MyCommand.Connection = cn
MyCommand.CommandText = strTemp

I have a checkbox named chkFactureren.When I want to save the value of that checkbox to my ms access 2003 DB I get the error: oledbexception was unhandled by user code - data type mismatch in criteria expression
cmdUpdate.Parameters.AddWithValue("@Factureren", CBool(Me.chkFactureren.Checked))
I am inserting data from vb.net to oracle but I am unable to insert datetime except date into oracle. I want to insert date and also time of entry into database:
cmd.Parameters.Add(":STARTING_DATE", (OleDb.OleDbType.[Date].))
cmd.Parameters(":STARTING_DATE").Value = DateTime.Now()
cmd.Parameters(":STARTING_DATE").Value = txtStartDate.Text
This is driving me mad! This is my code and I have attached my parameters below with my error. What on earth is wrong.

View 11 RepliesI currently have some code to import a spread into a dataset but it is dependant on the name of the sheet ie sheet1$. I would like this import to work on the first sheet of a xls file no matter what the sheet name is.

Dim results As New DataSet("ExcelRows")
Dim com As New OleDb.OleDbCommand("select * from [sheet1$]", objCon)

My program reads a 3rd party .txt file using OleDb and reads the file into a datatable. It's overall working fine except a user will occasionally have a problem reading a file. At this point.
Line that gets hung up
Try
Dim comm1 As New OleDbCommand("SELECT * FROM " & safeFileName & " Where " & Status & " = '" & StatusClosed & "'", con)
Dim dasold As New OleDbDataAdapter(comm1)
dasold.Fill(dtsold)
AddColsold()
[Code] .....
It can not retrieve a date for one of the fields, then gives error and does not get dates for each records after the one it gets hung up on but the date is in the file. If I open the file in excel and play with the column sizing, for instance just autoformat column width then it read the date and will work fine. I have looked at the file in notepad and cant see anything wrong in particular on the record it gets hung up on. I have no control over the .txt file since it comes form a 3rd party.
I have a program runs with access database. It runs ok on WINXP. However, when I run it on Vista, it shows this exception: system.InvalidOperationException: The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.
I searched, it seems the exception has some relations with 64bit OS, but my vista is 32bit home version.
I want to make some exception catching code a little cleaner, if possible.I currently have the below:
Catch ex As System.Exception
If ex.Message.Contains("opened exclusively by another user") And errCnt < 30 Then
sender.ReportProgress(0, "Waiting for database to become available")

I have a problem with Oledb connection when I am trying to open an Excel spreadsheet:
[code]...
This piece of code works well on one computer, but on another the IMEX=1 doesn't seem to work, and the Jet seems to read the first few rows of the Excel spreadsheet that are numeric and decides that the whole spreadsheet is numeric, so it ignores some String values later in the sheet.
I am using OleDbCommand to create a dataadpater and then filling a datatableThen fill BindingSources with the datatable and finally bind textboxes to with my bindingsource. My question is can i reference the cloumns by number rather then by name I have searched around and cant seem to find any information:

Just wondering if i might hit a snag in my program. Ive got 10+ users using the same files, via a Oledb to put info into an excel spreadsheet. If 2 or more people save there file at the same time will the program go into read only on one person. Normally one 3 will use the file at one time. I know Sql itself would be better to use. best way i can describe it, normally using excel if you manage to open the same file twice one opens as normal but the other opens as a Read only file, will the same thing happen if im using Oledb connections?

Can any one show me how to type cast a structure , when passed as thread parameter
View 7 RepliesFrom what I understand, when you use AddHandler you're not actually calling a Sub, so you can't pass a parameter. I'm confused on what to do though about this. I've just populated a DataGridView and added a button to it in the codebehind. I'm then using an AddHandler to add a click event to the button. So when I get to the click event, I need to be able to access to the datagridview because clicking the button takes data from the datagridview and loads it into excel. What would I do about this. This is my Method where DataGridView was just populated
Dim btn As New Button
btn.Name = dgv.ToString()
btn.Location = New Point(0, 0)

I am working with some code that uses array lists and I am using some of these to pass data back and forth like this: whatFile = (sideLookUp(x)) and its working, BUT when I turn this code into a sub/function then I call it I get problems, like double to string errors, even though its all set to double.

So I have a ToolStrip menu item "New", when pressed it creates an MDI child window and adds new toolstrip menu item to the parent window and when clicked it focuses on the window I created before, so I could easly navigate if I have loads of windows. This code perfectly works in VS2008:
Private Sub NewToolStripMenuItem_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles NewToolStripMenuItem.Click
Dim frm As New Form()
Static ic As New Integer
ic += 1

how should i initialize the string array in this procedure call
vb
Private Sub SetAddres(Optional ByVal Addrvalues(4) As String ) End Sub
how to initialize it with values and also with empty strings or null values

Private Sub LoadDaysOfMonth(pintWhatMonth As Integer, pctrlWhatControl As Control)
Dim NumOfDays As Integer
Dim i As Integer

It works just fine if I use pctrlListBox As ListBox or if I use pctrlCombo As ComboBox, but I need to be able to use both with the same routine.
(PS: Yes, I do have a leap year check in here which I took out as it is not germine to my translation problem.)
(PPS: Using a control such as the monthview or datepicker is not an option.)
I have this code to retrieve a record to fill out a tooltip when the user's mouse enters a cell of a datagridview.
Dim dacmt As OleDb.OleDbDataAdapter
Dim con As OleDbConnection
Dim sql As String
[Code]....
This takes way too long for the tooltip to display. So, I created a query in the Access database that takes a parameter of the first field for the record you want.
How do I connect to just the query and send the parameter to it?
I am thinking this might be a quicker way to get the data for the tooltip. But then again, maybe not.
Here's the situation. Due to the design of the database I have to work with, I need to write a stored procedure in such a way that I can pass in the name of the table to be queried against if at all possible. The program in question does its processing by jobs, and each job gets its own table created in the database, IE table-jobid1, table-jobid2, table-jobid3, etc. Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about this design - I'm stuck with it.
However, now, I need to do data mining against these individualized tables. I'd like to avoid doing the SQL in the code files at all costs if possible. Ideally, I'd like to have a stored procedure similar to:
[Code]...
Is this even possible in SQL Server 2005? Alternate ways to keep the SQL out of the code behind would be welcome too, if this isn't possible.
I was working on this thread in regard to DataRelations on multiple tables. If I use CommandType = CommandType.Text, the code does as expected. However, I decided to take the SQL query and throw it into a stored proc. I then changed my code to use the stored procedure and I get the error as per the title of this thread.
[Code]...
When I use the SQL Profiler, I see that NULL is being passed to the stored procedure. I have looked online and haven't been able to find an answer.
What i am trying to achieve is relativly simple but for some reason i cannot get it to work. I would like on form loads for the contents of a textbox to set the value of a parameter @CustID and the Stored Procedure to be used to return the result into a DataGridView.My datagrdview1.datasource= "StoredProcedure1" but how to i set the parameter value and tell my app to execute.
View 29 RepliesMy code below will save records to my database as long as all the parameter have values. One of the parameter is @MI (middle initial), however, there are times that student have no middle initial so when I click my button I get error. I want to still save the record even if one of the parameter value is missing.
