View 6 RepliesI have been left to maintain some vb.net applications - all of which utilize SQL server 2000 as the backend db. I need to change a report in one of the apps to include some newly added fields fromt eh database. I added the new fields to the specific table in the "testing" SQL server database which is on a completely different server. I am creating a new data source and have selected the database icon and then selected a connection string that clearly points to the test database on the test machine. I then selected the table containing the two new fields but for some strange reason, the two new fields I added are still not showing up in the list there! I have checked and double checked and it's as if it's still pointing to the live database on the live server where these fields do not even exist yet.

You may need to be patient.What i am trying to do is from my form, browse to a pic in a folder and insert it into a picture box in the program. the pic should insert itself into the program after it has been selected, and the picture should resize itself to fit the pic box (or viceversa if need be)

However the way it is accomplished is that the user will be able to select the database (i.e. the database can be located anywhere in the hard drive) and once he or she selects the database, a second interface would allow him or her to select the number of tables within that database (can be any number of tables). Once the table is selected the contents of the table will be loaded into the datagrid. It is just like opening an Access (.mdb) file and then click and open a table within the file except that it is done programatically

How would I go about having my program monitor all open (or at least the current active) Internet Explorer windows and their current URLs? Basically, I want my program (running in system tray) to monitor the web page that is being viewed in an Internet Explorer window (NOT an integrated web browser control), and if it detects the loading of a specific URL address, execute whatever code.

I have a vb.net web form with a html editor, when I add a hyperlink to the html editor, for example my application website for instance[URL]...When I run and click the link I can browse my application from inside the Html Editor which is so weird.It should open the link in a new window. I am trying to create an application where you can browse to a folder, press install button and it will copy some files to the directory of your choosing? I found some example code but how do i go on with my code from here? Cant figure out how to copy the files. I have a program that autologs itself into facebook and monitors posts to my main page and tells me if anything new comes up. Every minute my program refreshes the page and searches for a new post, if my session is expired it logs itselft back in automatically. If I'm in explorer trying to play farmville and my facebook monitor program is running then I'm forced to log in about every minute because my login at the browser kills my vb.net program session.
Then my vb.net program logs itself back in and I'm out! This behavior doesn't happen If I have two browsers running I can log into both and it doesn't seem to effect the other. I can even have my wife log in from another machine while I'm logged in and It's ok. So The question is why is useing the webbrowser controls in the Vb program any different then just having 2 open and logged in browsers and jumping between the two.

The problem is that whenever I click left arrow or right arrow to change month, the dptReportDateChanged is triggered. I do not want this happens. All I want is that after I find a month, I double click date to trigger the event.

I am creating a notes software. This is just a simple application that will show the data from the database which are Notes_Title, Due_Date, Priority. I display the data with datagridview. I also added a checkbox for each row to the datagridview to mark as check if the Notes_title is already done. In displaying the data, I need to display only a 5 data in a row.So, I create a another CLASS that will only show 5 rows per page. But the PROBLEM is, if I mark the checkbox as check in the first page then if I turn it to the next page the checkbox in the first page that mark as check will be uncheck if I turn it back to the first page. The mark check in the checkbox will mark as uncheck if I turn the page. How can I make it mark as check even if I turn the pages? And How can I save the data row as done if I check

I'm just using the default SQL Server Express in my vb 2008 express edition as my database server for my database operation. When I tried to update the records on my table I got a runtime error which indicates the error on this line 'myCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()'and it highlights a yellow background on it. The runtime error says "SqlException was unhandled: An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'Number'. ".

I tried to start using VB 2010 Express with a program I originally developed with VB 2005 Express that I moved to VB 2008 Express successfully a couple years ago. It uses a database file (*.mdf) that is on the computer ( not out on a server). When attempt to run the program in debug mode, I get the following error "An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file C:Documents and SettingsTomMy DocumentsQuizzing StuffQuestion Database 2010QuizQuest ionGameQuizQuestionGameinReleaseQuizQuestionDB.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share."
I first made a copy of the entire project folder that was working in VB 2008 Express and gave it a different name. In VB2010 I opened the project in the copied folder and it said it successfully converted the project. I am able to open the Data Source inthe Designer and see the database structure as I expect. I think the project is still using SQL Server 2005 Express (because it is what is checked in the list of prerequisites on the Publish tab).
Note, I have programmed off and on for many years, but fairly new to using databases and SQL Server.
Is it possible to connect to a database on SQL Server R2 Express from Visual Basic Express? I am following a set of tutorial videos done in SQL Server 2005, but cannot seem to connect to create the database. I have created the database in SQL Server R2 Express, but cannot connect. Is there a work around?
