I have a procedure that loops through the directories/subdirectories on a file server and sets the permissions. Procedure is called on a button click of a form.
I need to display on the form which directory is being processed. Similar to if we use the Debug.writeline which writes to the output in Visual Studio. I tried using a ListBox but it only displays the last one and only displays the last one once processing is done. I want to be able to display each directory name as it is being processed.
Psuedo code as follows:
For each dir in L drive
setPermissions(dir)
'display in ListBox dir name
lstProgress.Items.Add(dir.Name)

It would be handy during debugging to have multiple consoles (not multiple monitors, which I already have). I am imagining something like Console.WriteLine(1, String1) which would send String1 to one console window 1 and Console.WriteLine(2, String2) which would send String2 to console window 2.

I have declared my variables As Decimal, and what I am struggling to do is to display these values to 2 decimal places in such a way so that they both appear on the same line of output. I'm working on a console application that needs to write a line until a certain value is met and than do the same backwards until another value is met.
The line need to be 51 spaces wide, start and end with the pipe ("|") character and have a cross ("X") character in between.
I can only define both the characters once.
The result needs to be something like this:
|X_________X|
|_X_______X_|
|__X_____X__|
|___X___X___|
|____X_X____|
|_____X_____|
And then from the last line on, go back to form a big X on the screen and start over again, going over and over until a key is pressed.

in VS 2008, I started a new VB console project, using default options. I wrote this simple program:

However, I cannot find the output from the calls to writeline. Not in the Output window, not in the Immediate window and not in the console output.
Or, do I need to do something extra to get these to appear?

send the text from a certain line in the hidden console window to a textbox in the form, but I need this output while the console application is still running in a hidden window. Since I am going to have multiple instances of this console application running, I have assigned their processes to an array and each have a separate "hidden" console window. After I launch these applications (with different arguments assign to them), they require no input and will run until I ".kill them" using the GUI.The console application was written in the old C and it's source code scares me.
I am creating this GUI "bolt on" application for it in VB.NET 2005 to clean up desktop space (save me from 30 console windows) and to be able to start, stop, and monitor them from a single clean GUI.Attempted solutions:I have reviewed the information [URL]But again, that just tells me how to capture the output of it after the console application has exited, which I already know how to do and I do not wish to kill the application just to see a certain line of it's output as it would obviously interrupt what it is doing.

how to redirect outputs from console to a window form text box,but the console application I'm using is always running real time, thus my .net application hangs until I close the program that is read real time.The code displays the application to a 2nd form with a textbox multi line. Until I close that my entire program hangs and the console application monitored runs.
How do I code it to:
1. Run real time without hanging the entire program.
2. the console app must run at all times. (figured how to hide/ and no window created for it)

I have a database I am creating with about 50 users over a network. There are about 6 groups of users and these users are spread across 10 branches. I want to block/allow users from particular forms and views. For example I want branch users forms to be filtered by their branch number but depending on the group they are in they can only see some forms. i.e. 50 users, 10 branches, each branch has about 5 ppl of where 1 is in group A and 4 are in group B. I want all users that belong to branch 1 to see the information they enter, but Group B enter data but cannot approved or delete, and group A can enter, approve and delete. So then. On my login form I have the user type his/her username but the i want LEAVE function to update 2 textbox where I have named GroupName and BranchNo. Basically to run a query and look for the username and return in one textbox that user's groupname and the other textbox the user's branch no. This information will be used to filter forms and block the user from certain controls. This is the code I have so far but still can't figure how to display the results.

I'm making a console app that uses your name and then asks for a password and displays the text. So the start is like this

I'm creating a form in ASP.Net to replicate a paper form (I have no say in the design, I'm tasked with merely recreating it digitally). This form has many questions along the lines of "Answer yes or no. If yes, specify how much". I'm currently handling it by listing the question, and then having two radiobuttons in a group, one saying "yes" and one "no". To make this a little prettier, I've been using Ajax updatepanels that will only display a textbox to hold this yes value if the user selects Yes.Now I've been able to do this successfully, but each question is its own radiobutton group and has its own panel to update visibility, which means that the way I'm currently doing it there is a lot of redundant code like

And so on for every question that has a yes/no option like that. I have no doubt there is a better way to do this. I was wondering if there is a way I could pass the panel associated with the radiobutton group so I could use a single method in the code that would fire for all radiobutton postbacks, something like (not real code)

Or is there a better way to handle questions like this? I'm open to a different approach if it would cut down on the amount of redundant code that I'm typing now. I'm using VB, but I know C# so if someone is fluent in that with an answer I'd have no problem interpreting it.
