View 3 RepliesI have recently created an application where a lot of data is loaded into objects when the application starts up, and other data as it is required. For example if the user requests the catalogue page then it will load all the top level category data into objects of type Category. This will then stay there to be used by other users (who will therefore not have to load this data into objects) and can be altered by admin if they happen to login during the same application instance. I know this is not the most efficient solution, as pointed out below, but it works and the page load, at the moment, is not too long. It is very quick if most of the required data is already loaded into objects. It is also tailored to the business' needs - unlike other techniques such as Linq-to-SQL.

However, instate of a form application I now want to create a console application for the same purpose (the forms are unrequired and it just takes too long with multiple smartcards).
But I have been working on this for days now and somehow can't seem to get my events working. When I use 1 event, everything works fine, but as soon as I add my second event I get this error:

View 5 RepliesI've written a console application (no GUI elements at all) in VB 2005 that makes an SSH call to a UNIX server and runs a script there to do some compiling. I need my application to wait until the other script completes as I need the return code. I'm using a function that pools the open channel to retrieve the results. Everything is working except after waiting 60 seconds I get an ContextSwitchDeadLock error. The error message says its caused by my not having a message pump to handle messages and that could cause problems. I didn't know console applications had message pumps so my question is why and how do I get past this. I saw one suggestion online to disable this message but as I don't really understand all this is reluctant to do this so how can I solve this?

I have all of the code written but when I run the program it pops up the console window and then immediatley exits so I am unable to read what is in the window to see if my program is operating correctly. What I'm really doing is trying to do a matrix effect on my form background, by drawing symbols and moving them, alternating their colors (see this video for what I mean).
Is there a way to do this effectively with a timer and a draw event, with the timer calling the draw event and changing the intervals?
I have a problem in timers, I want to display 2 forms each one after 3 and 5, how to do that? I mean when the first form appears, after 3 seconds another one will appear, then after 5 seconds the second will appear. I still have problem when the message box stops, it displays all the forms together. All I want is when the message box stops, then it display the first form then stop to display the second then stop to display the last. The first form must stay for 3 seconds on the screen, then after 3 seconds the second appears then after 5 seconds the last appears.
When I click on button1, employee_id and P values need to be transferred from button1_click to Cal_Category13() and go through all the calculation. After the calculation, udtnew.X and udtnew.MTD values need to be transferred back to button1_Click
I've no problem to return multiple values Cal_Category13().MTD and Cal_Category13().X from Cal_Category13() to button1_Click but i've no idea how to transfer employee_id and p values from button1_click to Cal_Category13().

I have simple columns and their respective sums. However, I exclude 1 particular value from each sum, like so [code]...
Now I need to exclude another value ("Awaiting Progression") from a second column called "PROGRESSION".

It would be handy during debugging to have multiple consoles (not multiple monitors, which I already have). I am imagining something like Console.WriteLine(1, String1) which would send String1 to one console window 1 and Console.WriteLine(2, String2) which would send String2 to console window 2.

View 1 RepliesWe currently have +- 20 different console application developed in VS2008 and running at different scheduled intervals, all controlled by Windows schedular. The problem we have come accross is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to manage and maintain these console apps. In some instances a console app will just fail or never run to start with and this creates a lot of problems. In many cases one console app is dependant on another and if 1st one fails well...you see where this is going.
I am looking for a new solution that will help us to trace, debug and manage these console apps better. We are preferably looking for a gui front end, maybe windows app where we can set the intervals for them to sun and view some error reports if they did not run.We are port all the code for the console apps to which ever new appliocation we develop.

I'm back again with the same code however I have tried everything and I am still stuck. The message box works, and all of the values are correct but the last value. I would rather not change the message box code, but maybe just the last line where the 'Total pay:' is. As I said, all of the values are correct in the message box but the Basic hours pay will not add the Overtime hours pay for some reason.
