Call/run Excel Macro Within A Separate Visual Studio Application?
Dec 14, 2010
I'm looking to call an excel macro (excel version 07) within a separate visual studio application (visual studio express 2010). Basically, a user clicks a browse dialog button to select a xls or xlsm file which is then added to a listbox. Next, I would like the macro to run when another button is clicked. The macro looks at the first column in excel and moves the listed .tif images from one folder to another. I referenced the excel libraries, but seem to be getting hung up on a few code statements (''''ERROR see code below). I would like to run the macro within visual studio for any selected excel file or add the macro somehow to the selected excel file and run it.
'Here is the button click procedure
Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click
filenames = lstFiles.SelectedItem
As you read this, though I have pretty good experience in C++ and Java, eep in mind that I am a complete beginner when it comes to VB. :)Here is one idea of what I want to do:
Option Strict Off Option Explicit Off Imports System
I am creating a excel application in VB.net using VisualStudio 2008.while adding reference Microsoft.office.interop.excel we have both managed ( On the .NET TAB) and unmanaged (on the COM TAB).currently i am referencing the COM tab but it is not showing the errors properly.
can i use the excel interop on .NET tab?which one is the better way to reference and what is the difference between those two?
I have a situation where I want to run a Visual Studio macro that has the user type something in an InputBox, then inserts a snippet and includes that text somewhere in it. Unfortunately, I can't figure out how to insert the snippet from macro code. It seems like it'd be something like
I want to build a macro which adds a ; to every line end, which hasn't already got one and is not empty or a { or }. I use C# in Visual Studio 2010 Professional so I probably need a VB Macro. I need it because I have to migrate Unittest from VBS to C# (Don't ask why). So I got thousands of lines like foo="53" bazz=1337 I do not care if support is dropped, I should be done in some weeks. Also if there is one ; put in to much, i still review the code later.
I am using visual studio to create an application that opens an excel file and then for each entry in the first column the entry in the second column is stored in an array. Then excel opens two other workbooks and for each entry in the first column it searches for a match in these other two workbooks and stores the corresponding value in an array.
Anyway, the problem is closing excel afterwards. I have used the thread: [URL] to work through the basics of cleaning up. I used the cleanup code provided and added the WithEvents caveat. I do not have strict option on.
I believe the problem is the fact that I have three workbooks open.
This is my cleanup code: (wrkbk, wrkbk2, wrkbk3 are the workbooks; datasheet, datasheet2, datasheet 3 are the worksheets; excel is the application)
I'm using Visual Studio 2003, and I have a macro similar to this:
[Code]...
The first time use the macro, it works fine. Each subsequent time, even after I detach from the process, the .Attach() doesn't seem to do anything. The same thing happens as I step through the macro... the proc.Attach() gets called on the correct process, but nothing happens. One note: when viewing the process in the Processes window, the Type column for my process shows ".NET, Win32".
I have to develop an application using MS Visual Studio 2005 or above with the following objective:
* The application should allow users to create as many new forms as they want and each form should behave like a MS Visual Studio WinForm. By saying that it should be a container for drag and drop of controls from the toolbox that I will develop....
* Once the user design's each screen to his taste by placing various controls on the form, he should be able to save the form as a screen. Of course I have to provide functionality for each of the controls such as if he drags a button on to the form, he should be able to specify what action it has to perfom when clicked when the application is put into run mode. Quite similar to regular windows form button.
* My application should have two modes: a DESIGN MODE, where user can drag, drop controls and specify what they should do when put into RUN MODE. This is quite similar to MS Visual Studio designer.
* Last but not least is to be able to access the application via the browser with the same look and feel his desktop version.

Now to working with Visual Studio Solutions, but I am trying something very basic but no joy. So in my project I have a folder App_Code and in this I added a class called Test.vb and added a simple function
[Code]...
But in my Default.aspx page I am struggling to find the correct syntax to call this method. Also it doesnt seem like my Test2.vb class is correctly included in the project because If I make a type the project still builds successfully when it shouldnt
So I'm trying to write a MasterMind game, but I have a problem I have 40 pictureboxes set up in 10 different rows, and I want to have one code handle all 10 rows, rather than copying and pasting the code and changing the names of the pictureboxes. I've been trying to use a variable to achieve this, but if it's possible, then I don't know the correct way to do it.This is what I have right now:
I'm have a program (GUI) that interfaces with excel to execute macros. We're using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel to call/run the macros and this works great. What I can't figure out is a good way to cancel the macros from the GUI.One idea we had was to use the excel.application variable that runs the macros to write a "stop" value to a specific cell in the workbook, and in the macros (they are all mostly loops), check for the "stop" value in that cell. This crashes my GUI with this The program '[2188] BVLReports.vshost.exe: Managed' has exited with code -336589910 (0xebf00baa).And excel gets tied up, and won't respond. I know how to Exit Sub from within the macro if the "stop" value exists, so I don't need answers on how to check/cancel from inside the macro. Any ideas on a better way to write this "stop" value or a better way to cancel the macros externally?
I working on a project that includes to call a certain type of method to each control, i have this code:
Private Sub txtBcNum1_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtBcNum1.KeyPress If Char.IsDigit(e.KeyChar) Or e.KeyChar = Chr(8) Then
[Code]....
I have 15 textboxes( txtBcNum1,txtBcNum2,....,txtBcNum15 ), what's the best way to call this function inside KeyPress method on each textboxes with out manually adding it to KeyPress method?
I have Visual Studio 2008 Professional and I'm trying to make it so I can click a button to send the application to the System Tray and then click the icon in the System Tray to make the application come back.
Can anyone provide me a method or sample code to do this?
I am working to make a function that will update the back color of a text box based on multiple variables values. I can write the code to do the calculation, but I am not sure how to make the function realize which text box to update (as I will have about 30 different boxes). Below is the code that I have for each box so far, but I will have quite a few more, and would rather use a function to reduce the amount of code, and also make it cleaner as well.
If sngPreviousPrimaryPropertyTotal >= sngPrimaryPropertyTotalCost Then txtPreviousPrimaryPropertyTotal.BackColor = ColorProgramLightGreen Else txtPreviousPrimaryPropertyTotal.BackColor = ColorProgramLightRed End If [Code] .....
Or is there a way that I can tell the function that it's updating the text box that call the function in the first place? Say if txtBox1 has updated text and calls the function, then the function 'knows' to update txtBox1, but will update txtBox2 when it's called by txtBox2.
The following C# code works just fine and the test passes as expected.
using NUnit.Framework; using Rhino.Mocks; namespace RhinoMocksTesting { public interface ITesting
[Code]...
The Expect.Call line produces the following build error: "Overload resolution failed because no accessible 'Expect' accepts this number of arguments." What is the proper way to use Expect.Call with a mocked property in VB.NET? I've seen a couple posts that say Rhino Mocks works better in VB10, but I'm stuck with Visual Studio 2008 for this current project.
I am creating an Excel Add-In using Visual Studio 2010. My intention was to add a context menu to a cell and perform some action on the selected cell or cells. Here is the code I have got as of now
I am trying to show my excel chart in visual basic listbox and it does not work. I have added the reference of microsoft.office.interop.excel in my code i have put the range of column "A" and i do not know how to change the range to where the chart is in the excel. Here is my code!
[Code]....
I have attached the excel file screen shot if that can help in any way...So basically When i click on the button in VB than it should show me the excel chart. My code just shows me the column "A" which shows me the "data" column only from the excel file.
I've cracked the reading Outlook emails from a specific folder in a VB 2008 program but now I need to append my parsed data to end of an existing Excel Spreadsheet. where I can look for some code samples of now to do this?
I have tried numerous ways to modify the responses to "Openening an Excel file from within project" to open an existing Excel workbook and also select and activate a minimized workbook but have totally struck out, Can anyone give me some guidance? Also, where should I be looking for samples that answer such basic questions?
I am creating an Excel Add-In using Visual Studio 2010. I would like to run some code when users clicks a combination of keys. Here is the code I have got
Public Class CC Private Sub ThisAddIn_Startup() Handles Me.Startup EnableShortCut() End Sub Sub A1()
[Code]...
The Add-In when installed shows an error on clicking the short cuts. It says the specific macro cannot be found. The code under the Sub EnableShortCut() works well when it is in an excel vba module. The same won't work when it is added to an Excel Add-In created with Visual Studio.
I am trying to figure out how to add a theme to my excel worksheet before saving it. I have found this code to change the cell color but have yet to find anything to change to a pre-default excel table format (the Table style light 2 theme)
[Code]...
How can i just select all the cells and place that Table style light 2 onto them all using VB.net?
I would like help with a script component in Visual Studio 2005 to take a text file as a source and convert it to Excel file (output). The text file uses a ~ (tilde) as the column delimiter. Also, can this be done without installing Excel on the server? Any and all suggestions are welcome. Below is sample I am having a problem with in the script component:

I keep getting an error stating that Excel.Application is not defined and I also get Option Strict On requires all vairable declarations to have an 'AS' clause. Can someone point me into the right direction?
