Can't Detect Keypresses When A Button Is Present
Mar 31, 2009
I've started building a small game where you move around a PictureBox control with keystrokes using the arrow keys. Everything was working fine....until I added a button.
Now the button steals the focus so that every time I hit an arrow key hoping to move my image, it just selects the button.
Is there any way to make the button selectable only by mouse click?

I'm making a mario-like clone and I just finished the jumping code. The only problem is that moving while jumping is extremely hard because if you hold down the up key and right key at the same time, neither one activates.

I use the media player tool in my program and just found out that some people get a serious exception on the loading of the program if they choose not to enable media player. How can I make it so that if they don't have media player enabled that the program won't crash?
I don't know where the designer puts the info to load certain controls, nor do I know how to make the program skip loading a control if it doesn't work.

I am planning on creating a service that measures the bootup time for a computer. It would go something like this:
1. Service starts and waits for CTRL+ALT+DEL screen
2. Timer starts when logon screen appears
3. User logs in and timer stops
4. Service waits for process X to start
5. Process X starts and service gets System.Environment.TickCount
6. Service subtracts step 3 ticks from tickcount
The reason for the logon screen timer is I don't want to measure if the user booted up and went for coffee or something and shows up 20 mins later to log in. Is there any way for the service to detect when the logon screen is present and when it's gone?

I have already done the creation of button and the dragging of button at runtime already. But now i need to know how do i save the last dragged button on the form and also detect the name of the last clicked button.so lets say i now drag a button to coordinates 25,254. so when i exit the form and the next time i launch it, the button will still be at 25,254. and this one will go on for the number of button i created like 100. so when i launch the form the 100 button will be at the exact position where i last saved them.the second part is lets say i created button1 and button2 on the form in runtime. so when i clicked the first button, it should display button1. and if i clicked on button 2, it should say button2. same goes for like 100buttons.

is there any way to determine if a button is still blinking? because i have programmed it like when the condition is true, the button will light up. This button will stop blinking only when the user clicks on it. Because in my program, each button represents the number of blocks. So if the alarm comes in from the block one and block one button blinks, the user should press on the button to acknowledge the alarm. but while the block one button is blinking,if a new alarm comes in from block 2 before the user click on the button1 to stop it from blinking, button 2 will blink together with button1 because the user has not acknowledged the alarm from button1. Currently, i have written the below code to blink the button. but this one will go with the alarm, that is if the alarm comes in at block 1, the button will lightt up at block one. but when a new alarm comes in at block 2 before the user acknowledge the button1, the button1 will stop blinking and buttton 2 will blink. But i want both buttons to light up. the code is below:
Private Sub Timer3_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Timer3.Tick
For Each ctl As Control In PictureBox1.Controls
[Code]......

I am currently creating a Space Invaders game. Basically what I want to do is being able to move and shoot at the same time. The problem is that whenever one button is pressed to execute an action it cancels out any other button being pressed. I don't want that to happen. Currently I am just using Key down. How I can have multiple key presses at once?
Private Sub frmain_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown
Dim Loc As Point
Select Case e.KeyCode
Case Keys.Left
[Code] .....
That's my code. This is basically the last thing i need done in my project.

How can you simulate keypresses and releases? I know you can essentially hit a key with Sendkeys.SendWait, but how can your code press and hold q, for example? I essentially wish to be able to call something like press("q") and release("q"). The effect would be the same as physically holding them down.

I use keybd_event and mouse_event to simulate keypresses. I want taht to still work when the user is switch (Xp supports several users as we know).
Well, it doesn't.
I've heard sendmessage is more reliable,.
I manage to simulate click easily.
SimulateClick2 = SendMessage(hwnd, BM_CLICK, 0, 0)
Now, how to do so to simulate keypresses?

I've been looking around for a way to accomplish this to no luck, but is it possible to have a series of keypresses (Like Ctrl + Shift + O) or something like that act as an event? I'm trying to find a way to make something like this show a form using the old Me.Show() code.

I have the following code to handle keypresses on the form:
Private Sub Form1_KeyDown(ByVal sender As Object, _
ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyEventArgs) Handles Me.KeyDown
Debug.WriteLine(e.KeyCode)
[Code].....
The first time I press any of the arrow keys the code is not executed and a NumericUpDown(NUD) on the form gets the focus. The rest of the times the arrow keys are pressed everything is fine, until I click on a button. Then the problem repeats, focus NUD, then fine.

My application has a form which contains several Textboxes where user is required to fill up data. Once data is filled up user can click on "Save" button to save the data. I have added lost focus events to all textboxes so as to validate user input. When I click on cancel button, i want to detect cancel button click, but textbox lost focus is fired first so I get error message for textbox before my code moves to cancel button click handler. Is there any way to detect button click before lost focus event?

I am attempting to keep user inputs into our application as clean as possible. One way I am attempting to do this is not allowing incorrect data type in fields (not allowing alpha characters when expecting numeric values)I found and implemented the following code:
Private Sub txtSocial_KeyPress(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.Windows.Forms.KeyPressEventArgs) Handles txtSocial.KeyPress
Dim UserKeyPress As Char = e.KeyChar
Dim isKey As Boolean = e.KeyChar.IsDigit(UserKeyPress)
