I have an application that primarily moves files from one location to another. I need to get the user's response when asked by Windows if they would like to overwrite or rename the new file because it already exists in the destination selected on the form. I basically need to receive a boolean value so i can update the transaction logs.[code]
View 5 Replieseverything tests well but when I evoke the function the dialog values default to selections other than what the text was originally/last set to (e.g., color, font, size, etc. in the dialog/menu is not what is shown in my rich text box).how I can set the above values per the text being recalled in the RTB? That is, in the above scenario if I hit the cancel button I lose the original text formatting.

View 8 RepliesI am wondering how to copy a file from one remote computer to another remote computer. I assume that I need to supply credentials for the connection, however I can't find anything about how to do that.
I can copy files from one place to another on my local box -I just don't have a clue about the remote stuff.
I need to be able to set the "overwrite" parameter to True AND pass a value to the "showUI" parameter. I found on msdn these are the uses but unfortunately it doesn't seem to allow both those parameters to be declared at the same time.[code]

In my office they installed Office 2007, since then I am having several problems with my macros / VB script routines, in this occasion I am trying to use the FileSystemObject.CopyFile function to copy several files from one directory to several directories depending on the files code.Based on the file's code I build the destination path and then I try to copy my files from the original path to destination path, but when executing this sentence I receive an error message that says "Run-time error '424' Object not fund".

View 9 RepliesI have a simple desktop application that uses a .NET setup project (.msi file) to perform the installation. On the first installation, everything proceeds in a timely fashion with good feedback for the user.The problem occurs when the user is installing the latest version of the application over an old version on their machine.There is an unacceptably long delay of about 60 to 180 seconds from the time the installer's 'Welcome' dialog [It's not the Welcome dialog, I've removed that from the Start section of the setup project and replaced it with a CheckBox dialog to ask if the user wants a shortcut on the desktop] disappears until the 'Progress' dialog appears. The user sees minute(s) of blank screen and thinks the install has stopped or failed.
In the setup project properties, I've got the 'DetectNewerInstalledVersion' and 'RemovePreviousVersions' properties set to true. So, I believe that while nothing appears to be happening, the installer is actually removing the old version. The 'Progress' dialog does not appear until the new version begins installation.I've been trying to either:
a) Get the 'Progress' dialog to display immediately after the 'Install Icon' dialog disappears
b) Show another dialog while the Uninstall is running to let the user know that the setup is still running and everything is OK.
I have been unsuccessful with both methods. I'm using VS 2008 SP1?
Can I create new dialog results for my dialog forms? And then use them with Form.ShowDialog method?

View 3 RepliesI often use the process of displaying a dialog from a form, with the dialog user input then used to update the main form without any problem. In a new scenerio I launch the main application screen, I then show a login dialog ontop of the main app screen and can launch another dialog from the login if a new user is required. The plan is to update the login dialog (updating a combobox to reflect the addition of a new user) from the new user dialog.

The messagebox implies the dialog has been updated yet the text does not change. Is it possible to update the dialog when using a setup such as Form -> dialog -> dialog? I'm intrigued as why the dialog does not reflect changes. I have never refreshed/repainted the dialog as never required to in my other examples when updating a form from a dialog and never encountered a problem when using a two tier form setup.
I notice there is no public method for automatically overwriting duplicate files while also showing the file copy dialog (you have to choose one or the other).
Is there a common way to do both? Or am I just going to have to manually set up a ProgressBar with the "over-writable" overload of CopyFile?
I have an assignment due this week in which I have to make a app that has 5 buttons and a picture box. When each button is clicked it has to show the corresponding picture in the picture box, the fifth button closes the app.
I have the whole form set up the way it should be, but I have no idea how to write the code to make the buttons display the images and close the app.I have the images in a folder within the project folders.
I have yet to be able to find one, the one I found should how to do it using a file opener dialog and a folder browser dialog but that is not what I think my prof wants us to do, as that is more for a picture viewer app that lets the user choose the file of the image they want ot view.
All i want is for the buttons to be linked to specific photos that are part of the application itself and have them open.

After the dialog I have an if statement: If frmRelease.ShowDialog() <> Windows.Forms.DialogResult.Cancel then.My buttons are set as DialogResult = OK and DialogResult = Cancel respectively on the dialog form.
For some reason, sometimes my button set to DialogResult = OK is returning me a DialogResult.Cancel, and causing me to skip a block of cleanup code.
I'm using a DLL in vb.net 2005, and this dll show a messagebox with OK option. I would like to close this Messagebox by code.

when a user deletes a row by clicking "bindingNavigatorDeleteItem" button, I am trying to get the row being deleted.

2. How do I know whether certain rows are modified in datagridview?
I was creating some complex applications in Visual Basic .NET 2008 and since they are in the testing phase right now, people manage to find an error or two every so often that causes the program to crash. The problem is that there is a tracking piece to it that logs who is currently using the programs. When a user logs in, it logs that they are currently logged in, and if the form close event is fired, the log is deleted to show that they have closed it.
Now my problem comes whenever the form crashes from an error since it won't trigger the close event and therefore makes the log become inaccurate. My question is if it is possible to capture any error that the form would have in the form of an event?
I am trying to make a simple personal program and cannot figure out how to capture a section of the screen.I want it to work like prt scr does except it captures a specified rectangle instead of the entire screen. I am thinking I have to use Drawing.Graphics but am not sure.

Upon clicking the button a series of letters are displayed to the screen.I would like to be able to capture the time taken to press the letter shown.
I am trying to modifying the "Math Quiz" tutorial to be more user friendly.
The initial tutorial does not consider the users efforts to answer the math problems as quickly as possible.
The problem is that you must use the mouse or tab key rather than the "enter" key to move to the next control after answering. I believe using the "Enter key to be much more intuitive.
Therefore, I wish to modify the program to either:
1. Check the KeyPress event of the NumberUpDown controls to watch for the "Enter" key to be pressed, and if it is, check to ensure that the current NumberUpDown control is not empty (= Nothing) and if both are True, to then TAB to the next control in the TAB order; OR
2. Uses the PreviewKeyDown event to transpose the "Enter" into a "Tab" automatically so the application will then TAB to the next control in the TAB order.
With all of the new changes to VB 2010 from the last version I actually used professionally (VB6), things are REALLY different, so I no longer know how to accomplish this same task in the new manner. especially if it contains working CODE, because I have always learned better the first time from an example. here is my version of the tutorial Code:
