What I want to do is change the default Try Catch template so that includes the basic error handling code that is required by my company. I have tried to find the place where we can change this, but I only appear to be able to find out how to do things like change the class template and things like that rather than bits of code.
Notice the catch (Type) instead of catch (Type myVariable). Is this possible with VB.NET, or do you always have to declare a variable when you catch exception types, like so:
I am using vb2008.net express, I test vs2005term it work, can any tell me what is the input variable and output variable of this terminal? how to catch the input and output variable to a textbox1 for sending and a textbox2 for receiving when I press send button? is that possible? I attach the example of my question this is a a good source, but it is not relate to my problem: [url]...
I want to catch mouse cursor change event in vb.net. for example, If i place the cursor in textbox then the cursor will change as IBeam. I want to capture when the cursor changes using vb.net.
We are running on a Windows Client Platform (generally WinXP) in niche industry program that runs in a 640x480 window back to an AS/400 server. To reduce errors I want to watch for when the title bar of the program changes. Then I need to capture the keyboard entries to validate. I'll then make sure each of the entries is valid since the archaic program does no validation. I'll can then do a pop-up then warning the end-user if errors occur and to reduce/eliminate the exception reports.how can I capture the event of the application title bar change = 'string' that I need? API call? Aiming to do this in VB unless another would be notable cleaner.
I have a program in VB.Net that receives mails from Outlook, extracts attachments and inserts the attachments into a table through a query. I would like to put the query/queries in a Try/Catch block, but cannot do so as Outlook exceptions cannot be caught, and it gives me an error, and unless I put a very specific exception, I cannot catch it. Is there a workaround?
Edit:
Try Catch ex As Exception End Try
Exception is underlined and when I hover on it, it says: "Catch cannot catch type 'Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.Exception' because it is not in 'System.Exception' or a class that inherits from 'System.Exception'". This is affecting all my other code which I'd like to put into a Try/Catch block.
The following code causes a "Warning" that Variable is used before value assigned. How do I restructure this Try/catch to eliminate error on the myreader.close command in the Catch part? Code appears to work fine but I dont like Warnings. [code]
i have problem when i click a ADD button, there is one null value in the textbox .. so the try catch statemnt is to catch that null value error but after that the catch is success but the button click never stop excute the statemnt till the end of the button event.
I have this scenario: in a Sub I have a Try...Catch statement.Within that Try..Catch I call another sub.In that 2nd sub is also a Try...Catch.(see below for example). Now if an exception occurs in the 2nd sub's Try...Catch, which Catch gets excecuted? The 2nd one, the 1st one or both?
The code below works for the class that I hard coded "XCCustomers" in my RetrieveIDandName method where I use CType. However, I would like to be able to pass in various classes and property names to get the integer and string LIST returned. For example, in my code below, I would like to also pass in "XCEmployees" to my RetrieveIDandName method. I feel so close... I was hoping someone knew how to use CType where I can pass in the class name as a string variable.
Note, all the other examples I have seen and tried fail because we are using Option Strict On which disallows late binding. That is why I need to use CType.I also studied the "Activator.CreateInstance" code examples to try to get the class reference instance by string name but I was unable to get CType to work with that. When I use obj.GetType.Name or obj.GetType.FullName in place of the "XCCustomers" in CType(obj, XCCustomers)(i)I get the error "Type 'obj.GetType.Name' is not defined" or "Type 'obj.GetType.FullName' is not defined"
Why are static variables set equal to 0 in the declaration when 0 would be the default value of the numeric variable anyway when it's first declared? Not including the "=0" in the static declaration seems to work with no problem.
The MaskedEditExtender control that I am using is set up for a MaskType="DateTime" and the AcceptAMPM="true" but I need to know how a user can change the am/pm without having to type in A for AM and P for PM? Is there a way I can add arrows or something to this control so that it is more user-friendly when changing from AM to PM? My users aren't going to know that they need to type out the value for it to change.
I have a vb.net app that uses PrintPreviewDialog to print a document. Now I want the user to be able to print to any printer on the network. So, I created a listbox of available printers which works fine. Now, I need to either change the windows default printer to the one selected, or make the PrintPreviewDialog use that printer name.
I am using VB 2010. The default font for forms is Sans with a size of 7.8. Is there a way I can change the default font to something else. I do not see this choice in the options section of the tools menu.
Is there any way to change the default value(s) of controls? How about setting the default value of Textbox.Multiline to True which would make it easier to arrange on the form.
I need to catch log4net exceptions (its own exceptions not app exceptions logged by it). I wish there's a way of doing it this way: [code] I have this code implemented and there's no errors in compilation but i force log4net to have an error (pointing to a non existing database in the config file) and nothing is threw.I've tried the listener aproach: [code] and it's writing the errors to log4net.txt, the forced ones i mean. This last aproach has a couple of drawbacks: it won't append every error to the file, if the error is the same it doesn't write it, i can't get the listener to write every error to that file, only one (I don't know how to fully configure the trace listener, it might be that). Thus it won't append the date and hour to every line wich is a necesity for me. Finally i can't give structure to it (xml). Even if the listener work i need to use the try/catch aproach, since i'm using ExceptionHandling from Enterprise library to log the errors in my app.
Can we change default vb.net form skins . I mean to make it better?I am not saying to change background colour or image . I am saying to change style, design etc?
I don't know what this is called or I'd search for it since I'm sure it's been discussed. How do you pick a form as the default form that opens when you start debugging? As in, I have a form I want to debug but when I click debug, a different one opens with no means of getting to the other forms.
I have Excel 2003 and 2007 loaded on my computer. When I open an Excel file, it is defaulting to 2003. How do I check to see what the default program is for opening xls files and change this to 2007 in my code? I have already done the following manually:
1-Open My Computer 2-Go to Tools --Folder options 3-Click the File Types tab 4-Scroll down to the XLS file type and highlight it
[code]....
However I am not convince that its defaulting to Excel 2007 when I run projects in VB as I am seeing the "File Conversion" prompt when file are open.
I'm developing an application and when the application is open, I need to handle the mailto protocol. I'm thinking the best way is have the app change the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTmailtoshellopencommand registry key when it opens and change it back when it closes.
How do I change the default taskbar Icon? I can change the application Icon but how do I change the "boxes" icon that appears in the taskbar? I found this but how do I change it to use a icon from file?[url]...
I am inheriting my own DataGridView (say MyDataGridView) from the standard DataGridView control. What I want is that certain properties of MyDataGridView should have a different default value than what its base have. For example, AllowUserToAddRows, AllowUserToDeleteRows, AllowUserToResizeRows properties should have the default values of False; so that when I drag MyDataGridView into a form in the IDE, the default values shown in the properties grid should be False. Later on, if I want to change them to True from the grid, they will be set accordingly.
I really want to do is change the default printer in Windows. No combobox populated with a list, just simply the syntax for changing the default printer.
