Checking Record Already Exist Or Not?
Jun 4, 2011My tables are PURCHASE and SALES...In PURCHASE table, fields are CODE(primary key), PRICE, DATE, TOTAL, QTY...when I'm entering datas in form and when i click submit, the datas stored... but when i enter same DATA(CODE), it is showing error...i don't want to show the DEFAULT ERROR message...so, i want to search whether the CODE is already in database or not...i.e When i click SUBMIT button, 1st it has to search whether the CODE is already PRESENT in table or not. if it is not there, DATAS have to be stored. otherwise, it has to DISPLAY MESSAGE BOX.

I would like to write a small program that only has a "Textbox" and a "Button" in VB Form..I would like a code that can check if a filename already exist in a folder.Let's say I have a folder that has all this filenames (eg. test.doc, eddy.doc, anything.doc)So if I entered 'eddy' in the "Textbox", and if I press the "Button", I would like the code to check whether 'eddy' is already exist in that folder.......
Same thing if I entered 'anything' in the "Textbox", and if I press the "Button", I would like the code to check whether 'anything' is already exist in that folder.

But, the connection does exist and I have checked it by running the link in vb, in my computer and it works perfectly. What else could possibly bring back this error???

IDE :: Checking For Network Share In VB
Apr 30, 2009I'm writing a console app to take care of our automated user creation process which was previously done by a batch file. I need to check if a users network share exist on any of 38 servers but seem to be having trouble finding info on how to do it. From what i can tell i need to use the netapi32.dll and the NetShareCheck function, but i'm not sure how to do it.
this is what i have so far, but it isn't working as it should. it seems to be returning 2311 in almost all cases exept if i use uppercase on the server and device and the device starts with C.

I have code that works but might not be great. I have code that checks that the network is connected but need it to keep checking and updating. One of them is a MySQL server, one will have a vb.NET program wich will act as a "second server" and the rest will be different clients. What I want to do is that the "second server" will send out some kind of message or network package to some of the clients in the network, and they will execute a code based on what message it is, or what kind of package it is. Jan 17, 2011I have a rather perplexing issue. I am using VB.net and SQL for my project.I have a database, to which the connection works. I also have a data table and data adaptor, both of which I know work.I am trying to update something in the database, yet it isn't working. Assume everything listed is declared correctly. What am I doing wrong?

That last line throws the following exception:

Update Function On Data Adaptor
Apr 22, 2012I am working on a simple programme that has a dataset linked combobox that changes the contents of a datagridview when the SelectedIndexChanged event on the combobox occurs. (i.e. you select a client in the combobox and it shows you all of the orders they have placed in the datagrid view). I have got the two set up and displaying the data but cant get it to update back to the database when I add a record to the datagrid view.

Is it because the second data adaptor uses a variable in its sql string which only shows the current record of the combobox? If so how do I get around this and update the records added to the datagrid?

May 27, 2011I have written a sketch for Arduino that sends serial data to my VB.Net app. Works great using the included USB port on the board. I need more distance, so I installed a MAX232. This is interesting. I get proper data in TeraTerm for both com ports (the Arduino USB comes up as a com port). I get proper data in my VB app from the Arduino USB (com) port. I get nothing from the MAX232 circuit on the other com port in my VB app. Why would both work in TeraTerm, but only the USB cable on the Arduino, not my MAX232 circuit in my application?

VS 2008 Table Adaptor - Error Occurs When Adding Column To Query
Aug 10, 2009I have a table adaptor that pulls from the sql database, when I edit the table adaptor query it makes this specific table adaptor not a part of the dataset. I have added a column to my database which will contain an integer, when I try to add this column to the query this error occurs, i am using the configure area of the table adaptor.

VS 2008 My.Computer.Network.Ping() Cannot See Network Under Windows 7
Nov 18, 2011I have a .NET 2.0 *.dll that calls My.Computer.Network.Ping(). The *.dll is then run out of an *.exe via AppDomain.CreateDomain() and Invoke(). The problem is that this works just fine under Windows XP but under Windows 7, I get an exception saying that no network connection is available. I tried the Ping() call out of a small console application under Windows 7 and it works just fine.

DB/Reporting :: Table Columns Into Table Adaptor?
Jul 7, 2011Rather than running numerous queries in Access I am trying to write a front end for a DB2 database. The Access database is getting to a size that it is causing Access 2007 to have reliability issues and frequent compacting is required. I have created the Dataset, the Table Adaptors, and the Connection String already, but when I put in a bit of code in to fill the Table Adaptors the remote connection I have to work is going crazy (chewed up about 180MB before I realised it was pulling data from work).
Before I started the project I copied the .accdb to my local PC HDD and I pointed the connection string to it, but it still looks like it is trying to pull data from the work network. If it was a small database I wouldnt be concerned but it is pulling major data every time I run it. I have only 2 out of the 4 Table Adaptors running and it didnt fill them even after 10 minutes.
Here is the code I was trying to run... Server name has been substituted for Server for obvious work reasons.
Because the tables are so large I was looking for a way to pull only the columns I need to from the tables, I tried adding .SOFT_ID to the first line of code but the TA spat the dummy message below...

.net - Using A FileStream On A Network When The Network Drops?
Mar 26, 2012I am writing some code as part of a framework for opening a file.The file is of custom type and should not be opened by more than one instance of my application. To stop multiple file opening I use a filestream to create a lock file and then keep said filestream open. This seems to work in preventing another instance of my application from opening the file ( as it will fail in recreating the lock stream in the files open code ) but if the file is on a network share and the network drops then the original application also can not access the file any more.The code to get the lock stream is as follows:

In this I create the lock stream the first time round and then if another application tries to create it, it throws an exception and stops them from getting any further. This is kind of how it needs to work, unfortunately as I said, if this is done across a network and then the network connection is dropped for some reason then I can not delete the lock stream as I get an IOException telling me a process cannot access the file as it is open in another process ( which shouldn't be happening I don't think).
