Database - Losing Access DB Password On Compact?

Aug 17, 2011

My VB.NET program compacts and repairs my DB, but somewhere in the process unsets the database password. No problem, just reset it through VB, right? not sure how to go about that task.

So I either need to know how to compact it without losing the password, or how to reset the password after I lose it. Trying the best I can to make the code look decent in my post, let me know if there is a better way.

Dim strAccessDatabasePath As String = System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory & "App_DataSquirrel.accdb"
Dim LockedDbFileInfo As New System.IO.FileInfo(strAccessDatabasePath.Replace(".accdb", ".laccdb"))
Dim TempFolder As String = System.AppDomain.CurrentDomain.BaseDirectory & "App_Data emp"
Dim TempDB As String = TempFolder & " emp.accdb"

Database Access After Closing A Connection?

Feb 17, 2010

I'm writing a Windows form application in VS 2008. In the application I need to move among several SQL express databases (.mdf). I'm using the following commands to change the connection:

Me.MyTableAdapter.Connection.Close()
Me. MyTableAdapter.Connection.ConnectionString = "NewString"
Me. MyTableAdapter.Connection.Open()

I can see the form is showing data from the 2nd database. However, When I tried copying the 1st database (for a Save as function I'd like to implement), I got a system error saying "Cannot copy MdfFile: It is being used by another person or program.". Actually, I found all the visited databases were "being used" untill I closed my application. How do I break the connection completely?

Running VBA Functions In A Server Side Access Database From A WCF Service

Sep 23, 2011

I've been researching for days and I've gotten to the point where my WCF service creates an Access object via com/interop.I've ran the Open Current Database call for the Access object without an error but Application.CurrentDB is still nothing/null. If the CurrentDB is nothing then I surely can't call Application.Run "myFunction" I realize WCF services aren't meant to be user interactive, but it's a long story why I'm trying to go this route. Basically I need to have a proof of concept ready sooner rather than later and the alternative (correct) route involves the complete re-writing of a large complex access VBA application. It's not a permissions issue, I have the IIS user names added to the security tab. What I really need is a way to set Environment.UserInteractive to true so my WCF service can create an instance of Access on my server machine, run the VBA functions, close out, return true.I'm using VS 2010 for the WCF, IIS 7 for my server, Access 2010 for the VBA application.

Is that even possible? Can we actually write VB 2005 programs that will run in client computers complete with NET framework 2.0 to access a Linux operating database?

Closing A Form Running In A Different Thread

Sep 6, 2011

I have form1 and form2. A button on Form1 calls a thread background process (below). That process processes the command and when its done should close form2. I'm opening form2 within the current thread but trying to close it in the background thread. This is because if i close it in the current thread it closes immediately. I included the 2 functions below and what I have tried in the inline comments. Form2 is a simple form, basically just an animated gif. It is to show the user that something is happening(like a status bar) then close when its complete. I tried running different priorities instead of different threads but due to the results threading seems to behave the best. I'd like to keep access to both forms during the process, the pc, and screen refreshes realtime.[code]

Closing MDI Child Form By Checking Any Process/Operation Is Running?

Jan 4, 2012

I'm developing Applications in VB.NET 2008.

I have MDI Parent Form and i'm going load all form as MDI child. Here i'm going to give option to "Close All" toolstripbutton in top of MDI Parent to close All mdi child forms.

Now i would like to check that On click of Close All Toolstripbutton , i have to close all mdi child form but except those form is on process, example, I have opened/Loaded 5 MDI child forms within MDI Parent Form.

Child forms are ( just for example ) ,

1. Customer details Form

2. Item Details Form

3. Import Orders Form

4. Stock Details Form

5. Production Entry Form

Here 3.Import Orders form is importing from Excel with 5000 records and 4. Stock details form exporting to excel.

So now if i click "Close All" button then i have close only Idle form i.e 1,2 and 5 but i should not close 3 and 4 since its on some process.

So Is there any .NET option to check that form in process/idle or do I have to check manually by having any Flags ?

Using Stored Procedures With ADO.Net And MS Access Or SQL Server Compact Edition

Jan 11, 2011

I have an application that is currently using DAO and would like to move it to ADO.Net. The problem I'm having is that when I do, I cannot do any queries that take variables if the database is Access or SQL Server Compact Edition. For example: SELECT RecipeName FROM tblMasterRecipe WHERE CategoryID = iCategoryID..The database is a local standalone database. Of course if I use the Standard SQL Server I can add parameters just fine using the TableAdapter Query Configuration Wizard. How do I do something similar for Access or SQL Server Compact Edition? The Create new stored procedure radio button is greayed out when the database is Access or SQL Server Compact Edition.
